Chapter 84

Jenny was getting more and more uneasy. "Alright, I'll go talk to Mr. John Moore." With that, she turned to leave.

Calliope's lips curled into a barely-there smile. Her eyes drifted to her belly, and she gently placed a hand on it, a flicker of sadness in her gaze. "I'm sorry, I can't give you a future. Maybe setting you free now is better."

In the living room, Robert was pacing anxiously. He'd come to grab some medicine but hadn't seen Jenny, which had him worried. During a high-level company meeting, Sylvester suddenly got a headache.

Calliope slowly made her way down the stairs. Robert looked up at her, remembering today's news. This woman was actually Sylvester's secret wife. But why was she at the hotel that day, chatting so casually with a barely-dressed woman?

"Hey, Robert. How's Sylvester? Is his headache bad?" Calliope asked, pretending to be concerned, though she was a bit worried inside. Why would he get a headache out of nowhere? No one had ticked him off recently.

Robert replied, "It's not too bad. It just came on suddenly during the meeting, so I came to get some medicine. He should feel better after taking it. No need to worry too much."

"I still can't help but worry. How about I go with you to check on him? Otherwise, I won't be at ease!" Calliope tried to persuade Robert. If she could leave, she might have a chance to fake a miscarriage. But with the Moore family's tight security, it wouldn't be easy.

Just then, Jenny walked in with a big smile. "Mrs. Moore, Mrs. John Moore agreed! The driver is getting the car ready, but I have to come with you."

"Really? That's great!" Calliope thought, 'With Jenny tagging along, it's like having a personal bodyguard.'

Everything was set. Calliope got into the Moore family's car. The driver drove carefully and slowly, with Jenny by her side and a car full of bodyguards following close behind.

She leaned her right hand against the window, sighing softly at the scenery outside. She glanced at Jenny next to her and then looked through the rearview mirror at the car behind. With such tight security, anyone would think they were escorting a high-profile criminal.

How could she find a chance to escape? Calliope was troubled, but no matter what, she couldn't keep this child. With Jenny watching her every move, when would she get the chance to go to the hospital?

"At this speed, we'll never get to the company before dark," Calliope complained helplessly.

Jenny patiently explained, "Calliope, you might not know, but this speed is best for pregnant women. Your safety is something neither of us can risk!"

Calliope was left speechless and just kept staring out the window. The doubt in her heart remained unresolved. Why did the doctor say she showed no signs of pregnancy, yet now she was pregnant?

After driving for over an hour, the car finally stopped in front of the Winner office building. Calliope got out, covering her mouth and retching, leaning slightly as she continued to feel unwell.

"Calliope, are you okay?" Jenny gently patted her back, trying to comfort her. "Pregnant women often feel this way. Riding in a car can easily make you nauseous."

Calliope snapped irritably, "It's only after sitting in the car for an hour that I feel like throwing up! If you'd driven faster, this wouldn't have happened!"

It was lunchtime, and the building was buzzing with employees coming and going. Calliope straightened up and gently patted her chest. When she looked up, her eyes locked with a familiar pair, leaving her stunned.

How long had it been since they last saw each other? Maybe more than half a month.

David stood there, looking pale and pitiful. He seemed like he should be in a hospital bed, not standing here.

After a brief moment of eye contact, David looked away first and turned to leave. His frail figure seemed like it could collapse at any moment.

In just a few seconds, it felt like a lifetime had passed. Calliope watched him walk away, a wave of indescribable sorrow washing over her. The doctor had warned that if he kept going like this, he wouldn't have much time left.

"If you chose me, I wouldn't let you endure such pain and heartache," she blurted out, completely ignoring Jenny beside her.

Jenny noticed the unusual look in her eyes, a gaze filled with deep affection unique to a lover.

"Mrs. Moore? Are you okay?" Jenny called out twice before Calliope snapped back to reality.

"I'm fine, just suddenly remembered something."

After all, he was the one she had been infatuated with since childhood. Seeing him again still made her heart flutter. What did that mean?

Could this still be called love?

In the CEO's office, Sylvester leaned wearily on the sofa, his head slightly tilted back, looking unwell as a splitting headache tormented him.

His tightly pressed lips revealed that he was enduring the pain, and a fine layer of cold sweat had formed on his forehead.

The office door quietly opened, and Sylvester frowned slightly, his tone a bit impatient. "Who is it?"

Then, light footsteps approached, and a faint, elegant fragrance invaded his senses.

"It's time to take your medicine." Calliope's sweet voice rang out. He suddenly opened his eyes, the fatigue in his expression seeming to ease a bit with her gentle words. "Why are you here?"

Calliope smiled softly, picked up the water cup from the coffee table, and handed him the pills. "I was worried about you, so I came to see how you were doing."

Sylvester swallowed the pills and took a sip of water, gently placing the cup down.

"I'm fine. I'm strong!" he said, pretending to be relaxed.

Calliope couldn't help but laugh at his words. She took out a tissue and gently wiped the sweat from his forehead. "You are stubborn. You even broke out in a cold sweat. If you're not feeling well, you should go home and rest. I'm not used to seeing you work so hard."

When did the once carefree Sylvester start taking work so seriously? She always felt he just knew how to cause trouble and live freely.

Calliope, dressed in an off-white dress, stood in front of Sylvester. Her pregnancy seemed to give her a maternal glow, and every movement she made while wiping his sweat exuded maternal tenderness.

Sylvester looked up at her delicate face, her focused expression making her appear even more beautiful. A subtle atmosphere filled the office, and at that moment, only their breaths and heartbeats could be heard.

Suddenly, he grasped the hand she was using to wipe his sweat. This action made Calliope's heart skip a beat. The sunlight was just right, the atmosphere perfect, and everything around them seemed to freeze, leaving only the echo of their heartbeats.

The warm sunlight outside the window bathed her back, making her whole being shine.

"What's wrong?" Calliope couldn't stand the sudden awkwardness and broke the silence. She didn't want to stand there like a statue.
