Chapter 101
Rumors were flying around like crazy these days. The moment Sylvester stepped out of the company, he got swarmed by a horde of reporters, all digging for dirt. But he never bothered to be nice to the media. Still, they just wouldn't leave him alone. Sometimes, a few of them even camped out downstairs at the company, keeping tabs on his every move.
Calliope wrapped up her work and headed back to the Moore Manor, only to find Nina still hanging around. Jenny spotted her and rushed over. "Mrs. Moore, you should stay in more. You're pregnant now; what if something happens?"
Calliope stayed cool and looked at Jenny. "Jenny, hasn't Nina left yet?" Jenny gave a forced smile and shook her head.
Calliope gave a barely noticeable smile as she thought, 'It's good she hasn't left. She must be plotting against me and my baby. If I can turn her plans against her, that would be perfect. After all, I don't want to keep this baby.'
When Nina saw Calliope come back, her face turned sour. Lately, Sylvester had been ignoring her, only caring about Calliope's safety. In her mind, Sylvester should be hers. If it weren't for Calliope, none of this would have happened. She despised Calliope.
"Mrs. Moore, you're finally back. Where have you been wandering off to?" Nina put her hands on her hips, circling Calliope in a provocative manner. Her tall frame made her seem naturally superior.
"Jenny, remind Sylvester to keep an eye on his pet so it doesn't bark at everyone it sees," Calliope ignored Nina and told Jenny instead. Years of sparring with Rose had sharpened Calliope's tongue.
"Calliope, what are you so proud of? I once had everything you have now," Out of options, Nina resorted to this line of reasoning.
Calliope glanced at her coolly and replied, "But now you've lost it." Calliope thought Nina's lack of wit was a clear weakness. If it were Rose, she would have been verbally shredded by now.
"This is the Moore family. As an outsider, what right do you have to be arrogant here? I suggest you behave," Calliope, already annoyed, saw Nina approach and naturally lashed out.
Nina turned pale with anger. Calliope ignored her and walked away, enjoying the sunshine on the lawn, gently stroking her belly, her face full of worry.
Feeling defeated, Nina immediately called Sylvester. Seeing it was Nina, Sylvester initially planned to ignore it, but after several calls, he finally frowned and picked up, "What is it?"
On the other end, Nina sobbed. "Sylvester, Calliope is back."
"Why are you crying because she's back?" Sylvester's irritation grew. He thought, 'Women are such a hassle.'
"It's nothing. I accidentally upset her again. She has every right to scold me." Nina's tone was sorrowful, but she couldn't hide her smile.
"We'll talk when I get back," Sylvester said coldly. Hanging up, the image of Calliope's proud face flashed in his mind. 'Back? Good, wait for your punishment!'
At the Moore Manor, Calliope put on an unhappy face when she saw Sylvester. Jenny had prepared a fruit platter for her, and she elegantly enjoyed it, completely ignoring Sylvester's presence.
Sylvester loosened his tie, took off his suit jacket, and threw it aside, questioning Calliope, "Calliope, don't you think you owe me an explanation about where you've been these past few days?"
Calliope stayed calm. "Then you should also tell me how you've been sleeping with other women these past few days. I want to hear the details."
Sylvester replied coldly, "Details? There are no details."
Calliope exaggeratedly said, "Oh, that's just too thrilling. She's your ex, after all. You two know each other so well, no need for details, right?"
A moment of silence followed. Sylvester had to admit, Calliope was a master at pushing buttons. Facing the possible infidelity of her husband, she remained so indifferent. He thought, 'Can a six-year age difference really cause such a huge communication gap?'
She picked up a strawberry and popped it into her mouth, looking like she was in a good mood. Suddenly, she paused, as if remembering something, and said seriously to Sylvester, "Since you two have rekindled your old flame, I feel like a burden to your family. Don't worry, Sylvester, as long as you say the word, I'll go get an abortion right away. I'm very open-minded and won't cling to someone who doesn't love me. That's not my style."
"Don't you dare!" Before she could finish, Sylvester roared in anger, and the air seemed to freeze instantly. Everyone was stunned by his sudden outburst.
"Calliope, I'm warning you, stop testing my patience. Don't say things you shouldn't!" He warned in a deep voice, his expression cold and terrifying.
Calliope also got angry, standing up to argue, "What shouldn't I say? You should know, I've never been one to be easily pushed around, and I never will be! I will never compromise!"
Sylvester suddenly kicked over the coffee table in front of him, the loud noise shocking everyone. He felt the anger in his chest almost bursting out. He glared at Calliope and stormed out, kicking over a potted plant by the door on his way out.
Calliope muttered, "Madman! Always smashing things when he's angry!" Then she thought, 'Oh well, let him be. With all his money, he can just buy a new one if he breaks it.'
On the Moore family private tennis court, Robert and Sylvester had already exchanged dozens of rounds. Sylvester stayed silent, but his anger was palpable, almost filling the entire court.
Robert, drenched in sweat, looked helpless. The only person who could make Sylvester this angry was probably Calliope. After all, Nina always obeyed Sylvester and never dared to defy him.
"Even if you had a fight with your wife, you don't have to torture yourself like this. Can't scold your wife, but why take it out on me?" Robert was exhausted.
Sylvester threw a tennis ball at Robert's forehead and shouted, "Shut up!"
"It hurts!" Robert glared at him, full of grievance.
Sylvester sat in the rest area, grabbed a bottle of water, and gulped it down, panting slightly. "Women are really troublesome."
Robert looked at him with a knowing smile. "If even you can't handle it, it must be really troublesome. One woman is already a handful, but two women together, that's something else!"
Sylvester pondered for a moment and sighed. "I found it quite amusing to learn that Nina betrayed me just to motivate me. But thinking back, during those years, she had no other reason to betray me. She's always so full of herself. She should've just stayed by my side and kept her head down instead of trying to act tough. Now, I don't have any feelings for her anymore."
Robert continued to fiddle with the tennis ball, pretending to ask casually, "So now Calliope has become your new target?"
The question unexpectedly hit a nerve with Sylvester. "She is just a fool! What's there to like? She only makes people angry!"
Robert stared blankly at Sylvester venting his dissatisfaction. He had never seen a woman who could make Sylvester so disgusted. Even so, she remained unscathed in the Moore Manor, which in itself was a miracle.
"Sylvester, listen to me. Have you ever felt that you treat Calliope differently from others?" Robert tentatively asked, needing Sylvester to confirm his suspicion.
Sylvester immediately gritted his teeth. "Who am I not good to? I'm always gentle and considerate to women! Is there a problem?"
