Chapter 106
Lucas caught that and gave a little smile before looking down again. After John took off, Lucas did too, leaving Calliope all by herself. She roamed around the villa, thinking about learning to swim, but Jenny stopped her, saying pregnant women shouldn't do anything too intense.
She realized that since getting pregnant, even her favorite thing, swinging, was off-limits. So, she just sat there, lost in her thoughts.
Late at night, Sylvester still hadn't come back, and neither had Nina. Calliope had a pretty good idea where they were.
Sylvester and Nina had each booked a room. Nina wanted to share a bed with Sylvester, but he turned her down.
Not one to give up easily, she snapped some pics of the hotel room and captioned them: [This is where your husband and I are staying. Feel free to drop by.] and sent them to Calliope.
Calliope was fuming when she saw the message but kept her cool and replied: [Take good care of him. I'm pregnant, and he has needs. Enjoy it while you can because once the baby is here, you won't get the chance.]
She said it just to mess with Nina. After reading it, Nina threw her phone against the wall, the battery flying out with a loud crack, showing just how mad she was.
Sylvester hadn't been home for days, but Calliope went about her business like nothing was wrong. The Moore family servants were whispering that Calliope had probably fallen out of favor and might get kicked out after the baby was born. She ignored all the gossip and focused on taking care of herself.
Jenny was worried too. Calliope had totally pissed off Nina, and if Nina moved in, Jenny's life would get a lot harder.
"Mrs. Moore, you can't stay so calm. If this keeps up, Mr. Moore will really be taken away by Miss Rodriguez," Jenny said, bringing over a fruit platter and taking the chance to remind her.
Calliope, munching on strawberries and glued to the TV, replied, "He can marry whoever he wants. What does it have to do with me?"
Jenny was at a loss for words. Most people in her shoes would be crying and making a scene, but Calliope was so chill.
"Mrs. Moore, you can't think like that. I believe Mr. Moore still likes you, even more than Miss Rodriguez. I'm pretty good at reading people, and when it comes to matters of the heart, an outsider sees things more clearly," Jenny said seriously, standing in front of Calliope.
Calliope laughed. "You think he likes me? That's hilarious. " She laughed heartily, while Jenny stood there awkwardly, having no idea why Calliope didn't believe in Sylvester's feelings.
Finally, Calliope stopped laughing, wiped her mouth with a tissue, and gave Jenny a small smile.
"Mrs. Moore, aren't you worried that Mr. Moore hasn't come home for so many days?" Jenny asked while cleaning the floor.
"Why worry? He's a grown man; he won't get lost. I feel more at ease when he's away," Calliope said, shifting on the sofa and realizing that life without Sylvester was indeed more free.
Jenny sighed lightly and turned to leave. Talking to Calliope about Sylvester was really exhausting.
Today was supposed to be a prenatal check-up day, and Calliope left early in the morning. The results showed everything was fine. She gently stroked her belly, realizing that this child truly existed.
After the check-up, she quietly slipped into David's hospital room, where he lay alone on the bed, quietly reading, as calm and serene as ever.
David had always exuded a sense of tranquility, and that calmness and focus had deeply attracted her since childhood. At that moment, David's phone rang. He glanced at the name on the screen, Tom, and answered the call.
"Dad, how could you lose again?" David's voice was slightly agitated. Calliope, worried that he might have another episode, was about to go in and comfort him when she felt a gentle touch from behind.
Turning around, she saw a young nurse with a fresh face, looking at her apologetically and speaking nervously, "I'm really sorry, I didn't mean to, please don't mind."
Calliope just smiled lightly and waved her hand generously. "It's okay, it just brushed against my clothes, don't worry about it." Seeing that she wasn't blamed, the young nurse pushed her cart and left.
Calliope held the doorknob, about to enter, when she heard David say, "Dad, why did you tell Sylvester? My life depends on him. Don't worry, Calliope will definitely help me."
This made Calliope's heart tighten. She thought, 'What's this got to do with me? And that conversation in the room also mentioned Sylvester. Could they really be connected to the Moore family?'
She wanted to go in and ask clearly but hesitated. If she barged in, David might not tell her the truth. Calliope knew David's temperament well; he appeared gentle and refined, but once he made a decision, it was hard to change his mind.
So, she let go of the doorknob and sat on a nearby chair. Sometimes, knowing too much was not a good thing. After sitting for a while, she slowly got up and, after a few steps, ran into Lucas.
Lucas looked at the hospital room behind her and said, "I've noticed you coming to this room a lot. What's going on? Do you have a friend in there?"
Usually, Lucas was gentle and kind, never aggressive, but he seemed always very curious about Calliope.
"Nothing much, just visiting a friend who's in the hospital." Calliope forced a smile while observing Lucas's reaction. If he told Sylvester, it would be a disaster.
"Really? But I checked, and the patient in there is a man named David with a heart condition, and most of his medical bills are paid by you." Lucas's deep brown eyes locked onto Calliope's face as she tried to remain calm.
"Why did you check this?" Calliope glared at him.
