Chapter 179
Calliope was startled and almost got hit by a car. Fortunately, Sylvester's driving skills were good, otherwise, she would have been hit.
Thinking she couldn't get a cab, Calliope simply opened the back door and got in. But once inside, she saw Dione sitting in the front passenger seat, and her mood instantly plummeted. She had thought Sylvester had come specifically to find her, but it was just a coincidence.
Looking at Dione sitting in the front, Calliope recalled what happened that night at the hotel. She felt like a third wheel, merely a tool for Sylvester to have a child. Sylvester had already told Dione, and this atmosphere made her feel very embarrassed.
But Sylvester didn't think about any of this and coldly asked, "Where did you go? Why aren't you home yet? Where are Jenny and the others?"
Being questioned like this by Sylvester, Calliope didn't know what to say. She couldn't say that Samuel had taken her away, so she vaguely said she got lost after the check-up.
Got lost? Who would believe such an excuse? But Calliope shamelessly said it anyway.
Such a lousy excuse could only be thought up by Calliope. Even Dione in the front thought it was a bit exaggerated. How could an adult get lost?
Through the front mirror, she saw Calliope sitting in the back and remembered that night at the hotel. She was just Sylvester's hidden wife, destined to get divorced sooner or later. Besides, John and Michael clearly preferred her to marry Sylvester. As for Calliope in the back, she posed no threat.
But was Sylvester just now uneasy because of Calliope? And that night at the hotel, he left her alone, seemingly because of Calliope. Thinking of this, Dione started to feel a bit unsettled.
"Have you had dinner?" Sylvester asked, staring at Calliope through the rearview mirror. Seeing her like this made him uncontrollably angry.
Calliope was stunned for a moment. She was already full, but she didn't want to mention anything about Samuel, so she lied, "Not yet."
Hearing this, Sylvester became even angrier. It was so late, and she hadn't eaten yet? Calliope, what on earth were you doing? I'll deal with you when we get home!
Though he was very angry inside, Sylvester calmly said to Dione, "I'll take you home first, then take her to eat."
Hearing this, Calliope felt even more humiliated, as if Sylvester and Dione were the couple, and she was just a joke.
But Dione was very gracious, smiling at Sylvester and saying, "I don't have anything to do at home anyway, no rush. Let's take Calliope to eat first. After all, she's pregnant, and the baby is more important."
Dione's gracious words made Calliope very uncomfortable. It was too fake. Who knows how much she hated Calliope inside, but she could put on such a nonchalant facade.
As soon as the car stopped, Sylvester took them to a restaurant. Dione and Calliope got out one after the other, with Calliope deliberately lagging a few steps behind, walking behind the two.
Sylvester frowned, wanting to say something, but seeing Dione, he held back.
Once seated, Sylvester immediately called the waiter and ordered a lavish meal. It wasn't a state banquet, but it was close.
Calliope helplessly tried to stop him, "You don't need to order so much. I'm really not that hungry."
"You're not hungry, but my child in your belly is! Stop talking and eat!" Sylvester rudely said while continuing to order.
Calliope was speechless, especially in front of Dione. Sylvester's words made her feel very undignified, like she was being given charity. If it weren't for the child, she knew Sylvester wouldn't care about her at all. Thinking of this made her feel even more desolate.
Dione sat across from them, silently calculating. From Sylvester's attitude, it was clear he cared a lot about this child. She had to keep this child, or her plans might fall apart.
This was where Dione was smarter than Nina!
When the food arrived, the three of them were silent, making the atmosphere extremely awkward. Calliope hoped the meal would end quickly. But when the food was served, she had no appetite at all. She had already eaten, and seeing Sylvester and Dione sitting face to face made her even less hungry.
"Hurry up and eat!" Sylvester urged.
"I really can't eat," Calliope reluctantly picked up a fork but hesitated.
"Even if you can't eat, you have to!" Sylvester ordered mercilessly.
Calliope had no choice but to force herself to swallow a few bites.
Seeing this, Dione smiled and said, "I can see Sylvester is very concerned about the child in your belly. You should take good care of yourself and not wander around at night. Let the driver pick you up, it's much better!"
What did she mean by that? Calliope almost choked. Did Dione really think she was already Sylvester's wife?
