Chapter 148
"I haven't been sleeping well lately, so I came to see the doctor," Calliope responded to Lucas, and seeing that no one was inside, she asked, "Can I come in and sit for a while?"
"Of course," Lucas replied affirmatively. After hearing the response, she signaled to her companions to wait outside and walked into the room herself, ready to gather some information from him.
Throughout the process, Calliope acted very naturally and casually, without showing any suspicion towards Lucas.
Sitting in the office, she saw Lucas looking completely unbothered, as if he was solely focused on his medical career. This made Calliope smile.
"So, what did the doctor say?" he asked while pouring a glass of water and handing it to Calliope.
"It seems like it's due to stress, causing poor sleep quality. He said I need to relax more," Calliope said with a smile.
"Is it those messy things at home that scared you? Ever since Zoey's death, we've gotten used to it," Lucas said, his expression remaining unchanged.
Seeing the opportunity, Calliope decided to ask directly about the details, "Since you mentioned Zoey, can you tell me what exactly happened to her?"
Lucas thought for a moment, considering that revealing this information might help get Calliope to leave the Moore manor, and then he said in detail, "Actually, Zoey was John's girlfriend."
"Girlfriend? I think I've heard that before. And then?" Calliope asked. She already knew that Zoey was John's girlfriend.
"Back then, John and Sylvester's mom, Faith, had a pretty good relationship. They were both very kind-hearted, and as business people, they often sponsored a few college students. Zoey was one of the students John sponsored, from her freshman year to her senior year. John would often take Zoey out to eat, care about her studies and life, and even said that after Zoey graduated, she would directly join Winner Group. Over time, Zoey fell in love with John. Gradually, their feelings deepened, and Zoey wanted to replace Faith and become John's woman. But due to social implications, John didn't agree. Then Zoey started causing trouble, crying, and even threatening to commit suicide. John couldn't take it and accepted her. Later, Zoey went even further, demanding that John divorce Faith and marry her," Lucas recalled as he spoke.
"And John? He didn't agree?" Calliope suddenly interrupted. From Lucas's introduction, Zoey seemed to be a very capable person.
Lucas took a sip of water and continued, "Of course, he couldn't agree. John is a successful person and cares a lot about negative impacts. But things got worse when Zoey claimed she was pregnant and used the child to threaten John. Coincidentally, because of their long-term contact, Zoey being young and beautiful, he also fell in love with her. Their feelings grew deeper. You know, men often find it hard to resist the temptation of beautiful and fresh women."
Lucas shrugged helplessly and continued, "Later, John couldn't take Zoey's pressure and proposed a divorce to Faith, Sylvester's mom. Naturally, Sylvester's mom couldn't handle it. Their relationship was deep, so she became very depressed. Sylvester saw all of this. Finally, one day, Sylvester's mom couldn't take the pressure and told Sylvester about the divorce, asking if he wanted to leave the Moore family with her."
"Divorce? Leave the Moore family?" Calliope interrupted again, becoming more curious. If they were to leave the Moore family, how did Faith die?
Seeing Calliope so agitated, Lucas waved his hand and smiled, "Yes, she wanted to take Sylvester away, but before she could, Sylvester's mom was already dead."
"I see. No wonder Sylvester gets extremely angry whenever Zoey is mentioned," Calliope muttered to herself. Could it be that his mom's death was related to Zoey?
"What did you just say?" Lucas saw Calliope's lips moving but didn't hear her clearly.
"Nothing, I just feel like these things are all connected," Calliope felt the situation was getting more complicated. Faith, Zoey, Samuel, and Sylvester, how complex were their relationships?
The emotional entanglement between John and Zoey was relatively simple, but how did Faith die? What about the bullet in Sylvester's head? She had been living in the Moore manor for a long time and could see that John doted on Sylvester, probably out of guilt. If he hadn't fallen in love with Zoey, maybe Faith would still be alive, and the Moore family wouldn't be like this now.
Calliope pondered for a while and then looked at Lucas, asking, "Do you know what happened with the bullet in Sylvester's head?"
"I don't know either," Lucas shook his head, frowned, and continued, "I was still young at the time. I only remember that something big happened in the Moore family that day, causing a lot of panic. I heard that Sylvester's mom was shot and killed on the spot, and Sylvester almost died. But the bullet was lodged in his brain and couldn't be removed. I remember he lay in the hospital for a whole week, and everyone was very worried. John and Michael found the best doctors and hospitals, but no one could solve the problem. When Sylvester woke up, the first thing he did was go find Zoey!"
"Didn't John stop him?" Calliope asked in confusion. If Zoey was really killed by Sylvester, what would John do?
"No," Lucas seemed hesitant to speak.
Calliope was shocked, "Are you saying that Zoey was really killed by Sylvester?"
