Chapter 112
After Calliope left, Michael's smile faded. "What an interesting girl. I just wonder if she's got any plans for the Moore family. I need to keep an eye on her."
Calliope had no clue that her safe return had made Michael suspicious. He thought she might be linked to the suspect. As an elder of the Moore family, he had to look out for the family's interests. Even if it was a long shot, he needed to check it out.
Today's act was actually Michael's way of testing if Calliope was a suspect, not because he was genuinely entertained by her antics.
After finding Jenny and the bodyguards, Calliope told them they didn't need to quit. Everyone was thrilled and grateful to Calliope. But Calliope just waved it off with a smile. "It's nothing."
Nina came looking for Sylvester and was pretty annoyed to see Calliope still safe and sound. If Calliope disappeared, Sylvester would be all hers. But things didn't go her way; Calliope was still alive and kicking.
"Calliope, I heard you came back, so I came to check on you. I wonder if you got hurt, like being raped or something. You can't tell just by looking." Nina looked at Calliope with disdain. She always felt superior to Calliope, thinking she was better in every way.
"Then you better check if you're pregnant with some rich guy's kid. If you are, you could use it to blackmail him. Maybe it's more than one rich guy. You never lack men, so you might as well try them all and see how much you can get." Years of trading insults with Rose made it easy for Calliope to handle Nina.
Nina knew she couldn't win a verbal fight with Calliope and was always left speechless. "Can you stop being so mean?" Nina snapped, trying to catch a hint of anger on Calliope's face.
But she failed. Calliope's expression was calm, completely unbothered. Such a woman was the most terrifying, showing no emotional fluctuations on the surface.
"You should take your own advice. They say if you talk too much trash, you'll end up eating your own words." Calliope chuckled, looking at the slightly taller Nina with a teasing gaze.
With that, Calliope gracefully walked away, leaving Nina fuming in place. Nina admitted she lost to Calliope in scheming and was no match in arguing either.
Jenny continued to serve Calliope attentively. Ever since Calliope saved her job, Jenny had been even more dedicated.
Calliope, with nothing much to do at home, spent her days flipping through magazines and binge-watching TV shows. Whenever Nina tried to provoke her, she always managed to clap back, and she enjoyed every bit of it.
One sunny afternoon, Calliope was lounging on the grass, soaking up the sun, with Jenny standing nearby to make sure nothing went wrong.
Ever since the kidnapping incident, Jenny had been extra vigilant. Whenever there were strangers around, she stayed close to Calliope, ready for anything.
Calliope enjoyed the warmth of the sun and lazily spoke up after a while, "Jenny, why don't we get a dog?" The idea of getting a dog seemed fun to her. Dogs were loyal and could bring some joy into her life.
Jenny shook her head firmly. "No way, dogs can jump on people. What if it hurts you? What about the baby in your belly? Absolutely not."
Realizing she couldn't get a dog, Calliope quickly turned to Jenny with hopeful eyes. "How about a cat? Cats are small and cute." But Jenny shook her head even more firmly. "That's not good either. It's not safe to have a cat during pregnancy, and Mr. Moore doesn't like pets."
Calliope sighed inwardly, feeling disappointed. In the Moore Manor, it seemed she couldn't do anything, not even get a pet to keep her company. It was really frustrating.
"Calliope, you sure know how to enjoy yourself, basking in the sun and eating fruit, living better than me." Sylvester's voice suddenly sounded behind her.
Calliope was startled and lightly shivered. She patted her chest and glared at Sylvester playfully. "You scared me. Can't you give a heads-up?"
"I'll keep that in mind next time." Sylvester took off his sunglasses, looking at the sea of flowers in front of him. This garden belonged to the Moore family, yet there wasn't a single pet in sight, making the vast lawn seem particularly empty.
"Why are you back? Don't you have work?" Calliope looked at Sylvester suspiciously, wondering if he had left work early.
Sylvester lay down on the lawn, putting his sunglasses back on to avoid the direct sunlight. "I'm taking a few days off. I've handed over the company affairs to someone else for now. I'll stay with you for a few days. Yesterday, the police questioned your obstetrician during their investigation."
A sense of foreboding swept over Calliope, but she turned her head calmly. "Why? What's it to him?"
At this moment, she felt that Sylvester's smile carried a hint of coldness. "Guess what, someone actually said I was already dead."
Hearing this, Calliope's heart sank. 'Oh no, he found out! Will he beat me up?'
