Chapter 105
Jenny quickly called Lucas to come over and check things out. It turned out that the emotions were just too intense, and some rest would do the trick.
Jenny grumbled, "Mr. Moore is over the top. He knows you're pregnant and still stresses you out like this."
"Jenny, I'm kinda hungry. Can you whip me up something to eat?" Calliope said lazily, still feeling a bit of pain in her lower belly.
Jenny nodded and rushed off. "Don't worry, Mrs. Moore. I'll make sure the chef cooks up something delicious for you."
Lucas looked a bit awkward. "Maybe, it's better if you don't have this baby."
Calliope felt a wave of sadness, touching her slightly swollen belly, feeling lost and helpless. "Lucas, did you see what happened on X?" Calliope gently stroked her belly, trying to sound casual.
Lucas nodded. "Yeah, I saw it. It made the headlines today."
"If I said it wasn't me, would you believe me?" Calliope's eyes sparkled with hope.
Lucas nodded firmly. "I believe you. You wouldn't do something like that. You're a good person."
Hearing "good person," Calliope gave a bitter smile. If he knew the environment she grew up in, he might not think so.
Reality was always so ironic. Sylvester didn't believe her, but Lucas, who barely knew her, chose to trust her unconditionally.
Lucas knew it had to be Nina. She had come to him for cooperation yesterday, and he didn't expect her to act so quickly. "Then who do you think it was?" Lucas asked back.
Calliope didn't hesitate. "Nina. No one else could pull something like this. She'll do anything to get what she wants."
Lucas smiled without saying a word. It seemed Calliope wasn't naive. "Sylvester really crossed the line this time. Don't let it get to you." Lucas glanced around the room and saw some baby items, which were bought by Sylvester.
"I don't care about what others think. I live my own life and do what I want. If there's anyone to blame, it's me for not being as fake as Nina and not knowing how to play weak with Sylvester." This was the lesson she had learned, but she couldn't do it, especially since she never showed weakness to Sylvester.
Lucas frowned slightly, looking displeased. "Are you going to stoop to Nina's level?"
"Of course not. I am who I am. If others can't stand it, they can leave. I will never change myself to please others." Calliope suddenly smiled charmingly.
Lucas found that the Calliope in front of him indeed had her unique charm. Calliope added, "Lucas, I'm sorry to trouble you again. I feel bad for always bothering you to come over."
"Then get some rest. I'll head back to the hospital." Lucas smiled, picking up his medical kit and getting ready to leave.
Calliope, feeling pretty lousy, just gave a slight nod. Lucas always kept that humble vibe, with a gentle smile on his face.
John rushed over when he heard Calliope wasn't feeling well. With Sylvester running the company now, John spent his days fishing and chilling at home. "Is the baby okay?" he asked Lucas as soon as he saw him.
Lucas shook his head. "Nothing serious, just some emotional ups and downs."
John had heard about the whole mess and couldn't help but blame, "Sylvester really doesn't get it. You're pregnant, and he still picks fights with you. He's way too impatient."
Calliope gave a faint smile. She knew John's words were just to make sure she could safely have the baby. "Don't worry, Dad. I'm fine. I don't care about that stuff." She casually tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, her smile gentle.
John visibly relaxed. "It's good if you don't mind. You're always so understanding. But you also have to think about the Moore family. Sylvester is the only child. Finding a suitable heir is important. Naturally, a boy would be ideal, but even if..."
John stopped himself, but Calliope already got the hint. She thought, 'Does he want me to just ignore what Sylvester's doing out there? Stay out of his life?'
"Dad, that's not fair. I've never made things hard for Nina. I haven't interfered in her and Sylvester's stuff, nor have I caused trouble. It's always her causing problems for me. She even tried to harm the baby yesterday." Calliope wasn't the girl who silently endured everything anymore. Since Nina treated her this way, she saw no need to hide it.
"I don't care about anything else, but if she wants to harm my grandson, she'll have to get past me first." John's bottom line was the child in Calliope's belly. The whole family cherished this future little life, hoping he wouldn't turn out like Sylvester.
"Dad, she has her issues too. I don't oppose her liking Sylvester, but if she harms my child and can't have one herself, isn't that leaving the Moore family without any descendants?" Calliope said while watching John's face darken, then fell silent, looking desolate.
"I'll handle this, but you shouldn't post anything on X that stirs up the media." John glanced helplessly at Calliope's belly. He couldn't scold a pregnant woman.
Speaking of this, Calliope felt wronged. "That wasn't me. My X was hacked, and I don't even have their photos."
John barely reacted upon hearing this. "Alright. I'll head back. Take care of yourself, and call Lucas if you feel unwell."
