Chapter 66
She opened her eyes and turned around. It was Lucas.
"This is an opportunity. You shouldn't have come back. If you had broken up back then, things wouldn't be so complicated now," Lucas said, hinting at last night's events.
Calliope smiled. "Doesn't this just show that I still like Sylvester? I can't bear to leave him."
Her tone was light, but Lucas felt a complex mix of emotions. He spoke earnestly, "Calliope, I really don't want you to get involved in these disputes. The situation is much more complicated than you think. You'll get hurt if you stay by Sylvester's side. If you want to leave, I can help you."
Calliope was puzzled by Lucas's contradictory action. He had Nina's love, but seemed more concerned about her.
"I think Sylvester and I are quite suitable for each other. No matter how much we fight, we won't break up. It's pretty good." With that, Calliope politely nodded and turned to leave, leaving Lucas alone, looking at her frail back with a sense of sorrow.
Lucas thought, 'So what if you are suitable?' Sylvester's condition was worsening. Recent tests showed that the bullet couldn't be surgically removed, with only a ten percent success rate. No doctor dared to take that risk.
"If you insist, then I have no reason to hold back. After all, Sylvester belongs to Nina," Lucas muttered to himself. Since he agreed to help Nina, he would never break his promise. His deep affection for Nina was evident.
In recent years, few people knew about the many things Sylvester had gone through. Those who did were warned to keep silent. It was a secret not easily revealed. And recently, everyone in the manor was haunted by Zoey's revenge, as if some conspiracy was about to unfold.
The manor was picturesque, with fresh air, but beneath this tranquility, there seemed to be an undercurrent, a conspiracy brewing that could drive everyone to the brink.
As night fell, Calliope strolled along the manor's paths, her thoughts drifting to David, who was still in the hospital.
A hint of hesitation flashed in her eyes. She wanted David to see the realistic and ugly side of Lily, but also worried that David's health couldn't withstand the blow.
Gazing at the faint stars in the sky, Calliope's eyes sparkled with anticipation, and a playful smile curved on her delicate face.
She took out her phone, dialed a number, and held it to her ear.
The phone rang for a long time before it was answered, indicating the intense struggle within the person on the other end.
"What do you want?" Lily's voice on the other end was impatient, as if she didn't want anything to do with David.
"Come out, let's talk."
"What do we have to talk about?" Lily seemed ready to hang up immediately, but Calliope anticipated this and spoke with a tone of firmness mixed with threat, "If you don't come, face the consequences. You know me, I can't predict what crazy things I might do."
Whether or not Calliope truly had such capabilities, her tone made Lily pause. Calliope was not someone to be trifled with, and if she really did something harmful, especially since she was connected to Sylvester, she was definitely not an ordinary person.
"What do you want?" Lily questioned.
Calliope chuckled lightly, her voice pleasant. "Take a guess? See you in an hour at Brew Haven Café in Sunshine Plaza." She then decisively hung up, leaving Lily no room to refuse.
At Brew Haven Café, Calliope chose a window seat and ordered a coffee, waiting for Lily's arrival. At the same time, she called David, asking him to come to the café in an hour. A good show seemed about to begin.
However, less than an hour later, Lily was already seated across from her, led by a waiter. "May I get you something?"
"Just a glass of water," Lily replied indifferently.
After the waiter left, Lily immediately put on a cold face. "What do you want?"
Calliope smiled calmly. "You know very well." At the same time, she discreetly dialed David's number under the table, and the call was answered after just one ring, showing "in call" on the screen.
"Know what?" Lily's guilty look was almost laughable.
"David was fired from the Winner Group because of Matthew, and only a fool like him would believe it was Sylvester making things difficult for him!" Calliope's words were sharp.
Lily was flustered from the start, unable to refute. "What nonsense are you talking about? Are you saying we got him kicked out of the Winner Group?"
Calliope glanced at the screen. "Let's not talk about that. Why has David been unable to reach you these past few days? Why did you leave the hospital without saying goodbye? Do you want to leave David, or are you planning to disappear from his life?"
"I was just scared by David's condition that day and wanted to be alone. I didn't know David had a heart condition." Lily was nervous and incoherent. In reality, she just wanted to break up and didn't want to maintain the relationship anymore.
"And after you calmed down, you wanted to break up? Is this your love, leaving him when he's in trouble?" Calliope's words were like a barrage, hitting Lily's psychological defenses.
Just as Lily was about to break down, a figure suddenly appeared beside her. She looked up in shock and gasped. "David!"
Calliope had expected things to go as she planned, but she didn't expect David to not blame Lily. Instead, he angrily scolded her, "Calliope! Haven't you had enough?"
Her composure shattered under David's roar, and confusion flashed in her clear eyes. "David, can't you see what kind of person she is? She knows you have a heart condition! She wants to dump you! She wants to break up with you! Didn't you hear our conversation just now?"
Lily's tears streamed down, not from grievance, but from fear. David heard everything.
"Can't you see Lily is crying? I didn't hear anything! All I heard was you pushing her!" David's anger seemed genuine, and people around them started to look and whisper.
Seeing this, Lily quickly stood up, crying, and grabbed David's hand. "David, I don't want to leave you. I didn't want to break up."
"I know, don't cry. Let's go." David hugged Lily and left the café without even looking at Calliope.
Calliope felt a deep pain, as if sharp stones were lodged in her throat, making it hard to speak.
Tears quickly blurred her vision, sliding down her cheeks and shattering on the table.
The phone screen showed the call lasted five minutes and forty-five seconds. What did this mean? He heard everything but still chose to believe Lily.
In this farce, she became the villain in everyone's eyes.
Calliope walked out of the café with a heavy heart, standing on the steps, her legs trembling slightly, holding back the urge to cry.
At this moment, her phone rang.
Calliope didn't look at the screen and answered directly, her voice lifeless.
"Where are you?" It was Sylvester, the man with a lazy and sexy voice.
Tears instantly flowed. She wasn't completely alone, so why was she so fixated on David? "Will you abandon me?"
