Chapter 123
Jenny shook her head. "Mrs. Moore, she vanished right after you left. She must've gone out."
When Calliope got to the bedroom door, she gently pushed it open. What she saw left her speechless. Sylvester was asleep, holding a naked woman. That woman was Nina.
Her mind was a mess, and everything she saw threw her off balance.
Calliope's heart felt like it had been stabbed and twisted. She quickly shut the door and walked away, her face blank.
Jenny noticed something was off with Calliope's expression and quickly asked Ava to check on Sylvester, worried something might've happened to him.
Ava ran over and was about to push the door open when she found it unlocked. She quietly pushed it open a bit and was also stunned by what she saw inside. She quickly closed the door and reported back to Jenny.
Jenny was shocked. "How could Mr. Moore be so foolish? Mrs. Moore is so good to him, how could he do such a thing? No wonder Mrs. Moore left in such a hurry."
Ava stayed silent, her eyes following Calliope's retreating figure.
Jenny glanced at Ava. "I should go and talk to Mrs. Moore."
Ava grabbed Jenny. "Jenny, I don't think Mr. Moore is that kind of person. Miss Rodriguez has been here for days, and Mr. Moore has never touched her. They even sleep in separate beds. If there was really something going on, why wait until his condition worsened? Besides, Mr. Moore is currently in a confused state; how could he do such a thing?"
Jenny thought about Ava's words, finding some sense in them. Her eyes lit up. "Could it be that Miss Rodriguez staged this herself? She hasn't been able to separate Mrs. Moore and Mr. Moore for so long, so she put on this act."
Jenny, with her experience, had heard of actresses using such tactics but never expected to witness it firsthand today.
"Maybe you're right. Nina is so despicable. Not only did she come back to ruin Mr. Moore and Mrs. Moore's relationship, but she also resorted to such lowly means. She chose to leave back then, and after Mrs. Moore came into Mr. Moore's life, she wanted to come back. Such a woman is truly vile."
Jenny patted Ava's shoulder and looked towards the room. "Don't say too much. If Nina really becomes Mrs. Moore, you'll be in trouble."
Ava pouted but said nothing.
"But now Mrs. Moore must have misunderstood. Any woman would be heartbroken to see her man sleeping with another woman, especially since Mrs. Moore is now pregnant. I have to go and be with her."
By the lakeside of the estate, Calliope stood alone, expressionless.
Had Sylvester reconciled with Nina? Did she have to go back to that house?
Although she hadn't been here long, Calliope had grown very fond of the place. Every corner held memories, and going back to that house meant facing a dull and lifeless existence again.
Jenny saw Calliope's figure and breathed a sigh of relief. She hurried over, panting. "Mrs. Moore, it's getting cold. Let's go back early."
Calliope remained unmoved, looking up at the gloomy sky. "Jenny, tell me, what is the meaning of living?"
Jenny was startled by Calliope's sorrowful tone and quickly grabbed her. "Mrs. Moore, don't think like that. The world is still beautiful. Many things aren't what they seem, like this time. Maybe it's just Nina..."
"Enough! Jenny, stop talking! I don't want to hear it. No matter what, Sylvester can't forget Nina. That's a fact. My relationship with Sylvester has never been good. How can I compare to their love? So in this relationship, I'm the unnecessary third wheel." Calliope forced a bitter smile. She should have realized this sooner but had dragged it out until today.
