Chapter 110- Terror

Lexy

I was woken up by a ferocious weight on top of me. When my vision finally cleared and I saw what was happening, my animalistic instinct kicked in and I went feral on the beast. Claws extended, teeth bared, I lashed out with fury that almost matched his energy. His creature recoiled, taken aback by the sudden onslaught, but it quickly recovered, meeting my attack with equal ferocity.

During the struggle Bael hit my stomach a couple of times as he tried to pin me down. I began to feel excruciating pain when I felt liquid down my neck. Bael’s beast stopped and smelled the air. “What’s this?!” they spoke in unison. The voice was much deeper and terrifying.

I pushed him off and held my stomach. Something was really wrong, and I was scared I lost my pup. Panic surged through me, mingling with the adrenaline that fueled my fight. I could feel the life inside of me, fragile and precious, and the thought of losing it filled me with dread. The beast, sensing my fear, hesitated for a moment, his eyes flickering with an emotion that almost seemed like concern. But there was no time to dwell on it; I had to survive, and couldn’t let him touch us, for both our sakes.

I stood up and got as far away from him as I could. But the pain was excruciating to the point that I dropped to the floor. My vision was becoming blurry as I yelled, “STAY AWAY FROM ME!!”. The last thing I remember was Bael approaching before everything went dark.

I had just laid my head on the pillow when I was jolted out of bed. ‘Something is wrong,’ Xazul spoke in a panic. The urgency in his voice was unmistakable, sending shivers down my spine. My heart raced as I tried to comprehend the situation. I stumbled out of bed, my mind a whirlwind of fear and confusion.

Without a moment to lose, I dashed through the dimly lit halls, my feet barely touching the ground. Xazul's presence guided me, his fear echoing my own. I didn’t know where he was going but I knew that he needed to be set free.

Xazul

The presence became more intense, almost overwhelming. ‘Something is wrong with our mate. I could shortly sense the panic coming from Lei,' my voice thundered in CJ’s head, urging him to move faster. I had no sense of direction, only to run and find her. I must find them.

The desperation was eating us alive, and the sense of doom has been looming over our thoughts. I don’t know how far Xazul ran, but when I noticed where we were, we were high up on a mountain and he began to howl the pain and desperation away. I could feel it all because I was feeling the same way.

As we made our way back, the whole tribe was mind-linking me with their worries. Xazul growled at them, and everyone went quiet. The oppressive silence weighed heavily on my shoulders, their unspoken fears adding to my own turmoil.

Xazul's pace did not falter, his determination a beacon in the fog of uncertainty. Every step brought us closer to Lei, but also closer to the unknown. As we reached the edge of the forest, the trees seemed to whisper secrets of ancient times, their shadows playing tricks on my weary mind.

Finally, we emerged into the clearing where our tribe gathered, their faces etched with concern. I could feel their eyes on us, questioning, pleading for answers I did not have. The sight of them, united in their fear for Lei, stirred something deep within me. Xazul's growl echoed in my mind, a reminder of the urgency that burned in our hearts. We could not afford to falter now.

As I was regaining consciousness, Lei spoke to me. ‘Something happened,’ Lei said with a sad tone. ‘What’s wrong, Lei? How long have we been out?’ I asked with concern.

Her eyes were filled with a sorrow I had never seen before. ‘We’ve been out for days,’ she revealed, her voice trembling. My heart sank. The silence that followed was heavy, each second stretching into an eternity.

‘There’s more,’ Lei continued, her voice barely above a whisper. Before she could continue we heard the door being opened. I kept my eyes closed and listened to everything. As I’m listening to the to people that entered the room, I felt a presence approaching and I knew exactly who that dark presence was.

The air was thick with tension, and I could feel every beat of my heart echoing in my ears. Lei's revelation weighed heavily on my mind, but I had no time to dwell on it. I remembered my meditation training and kept myself steady.

I heard him ask a woman that I believe is a doctor tell him how I was doing. “When will she wake up?” Bael asked the doctor. “In the next 2 days,” she responded. They spoke for a bit longer when I caught the words the doctor said. “Takes time to heal from a miscarriage”.

Once I heard all three of them leave the room, I broke down. The weight of Lei's words and the doctor's grim revelation crashed over me like a tidal wave. My body shook with sobs, and I felt an emptiness that seemed to stretch on forever. The loss I had just learned of gnawing at my insides, a raw wound that pulsed with every heartbeat.

I curled into myself, seeking solace in the darkness that had become my constant companion. The room seemed colder, the shadows deeper, as if the world itself mourned with me. Memories of what could have been flashed through my mind, taunting my already fragile state.

I cried until there were no more tears left, only a hollow ache where my heart used to be. It was in this vulnerable state that I felt Lei's gentle snug in my mind, her presence a small beacon of light in my suffocating grief.

She was going through the same grief that I was. ‘We'll get through this,’ she whispered, her voice a soothing balm to my shattered soul. ‘We still have each other.’

I nodded weakly, clinging to her words like a lifeline. The path ahead was uncertain, and the pain would not fade easily, but with Lei by my side, I felt a glimmer of hope. Together, we would face whatever came next.
