Chapter 16- The Unexpected
Lexy
I’m so overwhelmed. There are so many questions and not one answer yet. I’m glad I had CJ with me right now. I felt like I was going to lose my mind with all these questions. After finally calming down, CJ pulls away from me and asks, “Can you tell me what you are thinking please?” He sounded so worried. I nodded my head and began to speak. “I’m sorry. My mom likes to hide things. I was hopping to find something that would give me answers on why this happened or who that man was?” “Okay. Where do you want me to look?” he asked determined.
“Want to help me in her walk-in closet? Is the only place I have left here.” He clapped his hands together and walked into the closet. I smirked at him. He took one side, and I took the other side. I began to hear knocking. When I turned around it was him knocking on the wall. I began to do the same. “Umm.. Lexy?!” I heard CJ calling me. “Yeah” I responded without turning around. He didn’t answer for a full minute, so I turned around and my mouth went wide open. Now I understood why he went quiet.
There was a hidden compartment in the wall behind her coats. I approached the compartment and when I got close enough to see, there were folders, money, and jewelry. I was dumb founded. I went and grabbed one of my mom’s bags and threw everything that was in the compartment into the bag. At this moment I became determined and all I want is answers. I snapped CJ from his shock and began to help by grabbing the bag. On our way out I grabbed the bag with my stuff and went out. We set all the bags in the back of his truck and hopped on.
CJ
I took her to a Baskin-Robbins for some ice cream before heading home. She needed a break before she dived into whatever what’s going on with her mom. She tried to fight me on the pitstop but gave in since I was driving. I ordered a double fudge bowl. “Can you make that a large and we share it?” she said with a big smile. ‘YES. Say yes dumb dumb’ Xazul yelled at me. Didn’t realize that I never answered. “Sure” is all that came out. “A large please” I let the cashier know. “Do you want to sit or want to take it in the truck?” I asked. “In the truck would be nice”.
Once I paid and got the ice cream, we went back on my truck. I turned on the truck to turn the a/c on. I placed the ice cream in the middle and handed her a spoon. I let her eat first and the ice cream seemed to hit the spot because her mood seemed lighter. From time to time, I would take a couple of spoons, but I wanted her to eat and relax. As I was enjoying looking at her eat Xazul became alert. ‘Somethings wrong. Someone is watching.’ ‘Can you tell who it is?’ I asked trying not to show my concern. ‘NO’ Xazul was irritated with that. I wanted to look around, but I didn’t want to alert Lexy. Since I was letting her enjoy the ice cream, I decided to drive out of the parking lot and head home.
On the drive home I kept looking in all my mirrors and noticed a dark SUV that I saw in the parking lot across from where we were. I decided to go to the packhouse instead of home. Something wasn’t right. We were determined to keep Lexy safe. By the time we got to the packhouse Lexy had finished the ice cream, but she was looking flustered. “My phoenix are you okay?” “I’m sorry.. I ate all the ice cream” she responded a bit embarrassed, and I chuckled at that. I got off the truck and went to her side to help her out. When I touched her skin she was hot. I mind-linked my parents and brother to come to the packhouse.
By my luck they were there already, but Lexy became unconscious. I picked her up and then told Alex to get the bags from the truck. I told my dad what was going on with the black SUV and got my mom to get ice from the kitchen while I took her to a guest suite. By the time I got her in the suite, she was burning like if she was on fire, but I wasn’t going to let her go. I went into the bathroom and turned the cold water on the tub. I sat in with her and told my mom to throw the ice over her. She was so hot the ice was smoking. It was melting really fast. My family was amazing by showing up with so much more ice. By the third trip the 3 of them did, she had cooled down. The doctor showed up. I think mami called him. Xazul wasn’t being nice to the doctor. He didn’t want him touching Lexy. He was as worried as I was. The doctor said “She seems fine now. I’ll check on her later. If it happens again call during the event.” He walked out.
“Is she going to be okay mijo?” my mom was concerned for Lexy. “I don’t know mami. But I’ll be here to help her. Will figure it out.” I gave her a smirk. “Esta bien mijo. Let me know if you need anything”. I nodded my head. I mind-linked Alex ‘Hey. Where are Lexy’s bags?’ I left them in the suite. Figure she’ll need her things after that shower.’ ‘How is she bro?’ He was worried too. ‘Right now, better. She’s almost back to normal. About to take her out of this freezing water’ I laughed at that. ‘Okay. I’ll let you be’ he laughed back at me. I lifted her out of the tub and held her against my body. Right when I was going to try to undress her she began to move.

“Mmmm” I was feeling groggy. I was trying to open my eyes, but it was hard. “Can you stand for a bit?” CJ asked me. I nodded my head. I wanted to say something but was really thirsty. My mouth was so dry. My thoughts were interrupted when I felt him taking my clothes off. I was trying to process what was happening. But I was feeling hot again.
