Chapter 72- Plan in Motion
Lexy
I didn’t want to leave my babies, but I knew we had to find the traitor. Dad snuck me out through his office tunnels that came out far enough from prying eyes. CJ and I made our way to the falls and into the sacred grounds. “WTF” CJ gasped out. As I looked at what he was looking at, I became mesmerized by the sight.
The whole sacred grounds had flourished beautifully. “Marvelous” I whispered. CJ helped me change into the dress and then helped me lay down on the beautiful ground. He lay right beside me, and we whispered to each other. During this time, we got to enjoy the little things we missed in days.
Mom came in at some point and brought us food. She also came to take her shift while CJ went to take care of our babies. Things needed to look as it has been the past couple of days. Dad had set the whole thing in motion to catch whoever betrayed our people.
Riz
I arrived in the early morning through the way I always take to stay out of sight. I get into my room and change into the maids’ uniform and get about my day. I was assigned to help in the kitchen this morning and found Lady Marisol crying. “Lady Marisol, is everything alright?” I ask as if I’m concerned.
“I’m sorry. I’m fine Riz. Just sad that the princess is not with us anymore. That poor baby without a mom” she responded through sniffles. “Oh ok. Should I leave you alone?” “I’m fine. Did you need something?” she asked me trying to get her composure back.
“I’m assigned to you today. Where do you want me to start?” I responded. After she calmed down, she told me what needed to be done and I began my tasks. “Lady Marisol, have you seen the baby?” I asked curiously. “Yes I have my dear. Beautiful baby” she responded. I was hoping she would say the gender.
“I wondered if is a boy looking like dad or a girl looking like mom” I say dreamingly. She looks at me and smiles and changes the conversation back to work. I’m really good at befriending people to make my cover better and extract better information. But Lady Marisol has always been a tough cookie to crack.
Once lunch was finished, I took my break and used this chance to keep looking around.
Helio
Lady Marisol brought my lunch, but I could tell something was wrong with her. She has been with me since before I was even conceived. She’s family that refuses to stop working and take care of everyone.
“Hey Mari. Stay for bit” I tell her before she walks through the door. She turns around and sits across from me but she’s keeping her head down. “Mari please look at me. What’s going on?” I talked to her sweetly. “I don’t want to get anyone in trouble, but I want to keep the family safe” she responded with tears.
Before I could ask again she spoke up. “I think you should keep an eye on Riz. She asked tried getting the sex of the baby from me”. “Why is that suspicious?” I asked her. “Because there is something about her that seems off. Every time I’ve asked anyone about her, everyone gives the same answers. She’s nice but nobody knows anything about her personal life” she responded very seriously.
“Thank you for your concern and for letting me know. I will investigate it quietly” I let her know and smile at her. I go around my desk and hug her. I know she has been feeling down like I was. We both have come to care for Lexy and her family greatly. Even in the short time since they came here. She returned the hug, got up, kissed my cheek and walked out of the room with a smile.
Lexy
The time in the waterfall has been great so far to my surprise. I’ve got to spend better time with mom and get to know some things about her. I have never spent time like this with mom, but I love it. After a couple of hours with mom CJ came back and mom went to be with my babies. How I miss them so much and has only been half a day without them.
Smelling CJ gave me a chance to pick up their scents on him. which it made me realize that my scent was stronger than before. CJ had only been with me a couple of minutes when I picked up a mixed scent that was outside the waterfall. I knew it was just one person but smelled like 2.
“Papi is time. Someone is outside. I’ll link dad” I whispered to him. He nodded his response and began his acting. “I miss you so much. Please come back to us. I need you muñeca” CJ kept saying. Hearing him talk like that broke my heart and I almost got up to hold him. ‘Dad, it is time. Someone is outside the falls. And the scent is mixed’ I tell dad.
CJ holds my hands and kisses it. ‘Is ok muñeca. I’m sorry you must hear this, but we are almost at the finish line’ he mind-links me. “I love you my fiery Phoenix. I’ll love you pass death”. A tear came out and he wiped it away and kissed my forehead.
Helio
After Mari left I called my best scout and gave them the information for this Riz girl. I’m not even sure I have ever seen this girl. She’s been tracking her for and when Lexy told me about what she picked up outside the waterfall, I also got the mind-link from my scout. Riz was outside the waterfalls but left after a couple of minutes.
The scout followed her and Riz returned to her duties. That confused me at first but then it gave me an idea.
