Chapter 16
Jennifer
That night I slept like a baby, no one was haunting me or maybe I was just really really tired. I didn’t wake until my alarm went of at 4 am. I didn’t even feel the need to press the snooze button. I got up and got ready for work. I actually felt good like I could concur the world it was a long time since I felt like this. Maybe it was meeting my Tall dark and Handsome man he couldn’t haunt me anymore. But now the thought that he was my dad’s best friend was the issue or maybe it won’t be. Clearly Romeo wants something from me and I’m big enough to admit I really want something from him I’m just not sure how it’s going to work. I mean I’m my fathers plus one to all the functions, functions Romeo would most probable also attend but I’m not going to worry about that today or the rest of the week I’ll worry about that on Saturday when I go to see him. I got to work at 4:30 it was nice starting so early because the whole of Vegas was still asleep. When I got to the bakery Eleanor was already there busy with her vanilla cupcakes. “Morning Eleanor.” “Morning Jennifer. You look good this morning.” “Thank you I got enough sleep and no nightmares.” “Didn’t you go out with you dad last night?” “I did but I left early.” “And he let you?” “Yes, I think he didn’t want to make a scene in front of his friend.” “Oh, really that’s interesting.” “I’m just happy I got to bed at a decent hour.” We got quiet and baked our batches for the morning I knew there was an order for tomorrow in the books but Eleanor and I will do that during the day between customers.
At 9 am I opened the doors and we served our regulars and off course we chatted with them and heard how great our cupcakes were. It got quiet and Eleanor and I went to the back to start on our order. An hour later it was the lunch time rush again which needed me and Eleanor in front with the barista. When I looked out the window, I was sure I saw the same car that took me home last night but it couldn’t be. The lunch time rush was over and before I could return to the kitchen Romeo walked into the bakery.
“Hi Jenn.” “Romeo?” I sort of asked him. He would be the last person I would have suspected to come into my bakery. “I needed to have a taste of your cupcake.” But he looked me in the eyes while saying it. I knew exactly what he meant by that but I played dumb “Which one, chocolate or vanilla?” “Which one would you recommend?” “Well Eleanor’s Strawberry and cream vanilla cupcake is delicious and then my chocolate and orange are also a best seller.” “Let’s have one of each and an espresso please.” I ringed everything up, he paid me and then asked “Will you sit with me?” I looked back at the kitchen then the door. It was quiet there was nothing that needs my attention in the kitchen so I don’t have an excuse. “Yes sure.” I took the cupcakes and he took his espresso and we sat at the window. My favorite seat in the bakery. “This is a very nice business you have here Jenn.” “Can you tell my dad that?” “I saw there was a bit of tension.” “Yes, let’s not talk about that, why are you here?” “Can’t a man come for a cupcake and some coffee?” He asked me very innocently. “A man can but I don’t know if this man can?” He grabbed at his chest “You hurt me.” “I’ve missed you and wanted to see if you are better after last night.” “You missed me?” “Yes, is it so hard to believe I was devasted when you didn’t take the phone. I wanted to speak to you so badly.”
“About what?” “About us.” “Romeo, you know there is no us.” “But what if I wanted there to be one.” “Like in dating?” “Not exactly, I’m jumping the gun here Jenn let’s talk about this on Saturday okay. How are you feeling after last night?” He changed the subject I was still reeling on he wanted there to be something between us. “I feel much better thank you for getting me home.” “It’s my pleasure but why where you there, not that I’m complaining?” “Since my mom’s death I need to accompany my father to all his black-tie events sometimes it’s other events as well.” “Why?” he asked quite shocked. “I really don’t know I think it’s because he doesn’t want to go alone.” “What about a girlfriend or something?” “As far as I know he doesn’t have one.” “Aren’t you guys close?” “It depends what you see as close, I go to Sunday lunch every Sunday and every Sunday we have the same argument and then we are silent for the rest of lunch and then I go with him to all his black-tie events there is normally one every week we mostly speak to other people never to each other. But he knows Friday’s and Saturdays are for me I don’t give up my night at the club for anyone.” He raised his eyes for me. “Yes, okay I’m giving up one Friday night for you. It’s the only time I have for myself where I can be myself where no one knows me, where no one judge me.” “I totally understand where you coming from.” “You do?” “Yes, off course you do need something that is just yours that no one’s knows about.” “That’s how I feel about Maya.” “I see. Tell me where you at Club X Saturday night?” Where did that come from, I thought. “Yes why?” “So, it was you, it's my club and I was sure I saw you then some guy followed you you didn’t look very happy.” “Yes Kyle at least JP helped me out with that situation.” “I’m glad to hear that, is he an ex of yours?” “Yes” “And?” “And I need to get back to work.” I told him. That was enough show and tell for one day. “I’m sorry Jenn I didn’t want to upset you. Last question I promise.” “Do JP know who you are?” “Yes why?” “Fuck I was stupid I ran after you and when I got outside you were already gone but I thought JP wouldn’t know who you are.” “You are underestimating your bouncers Sir.” “Don’t call me that not here.” “Why not?” “Oh, babe don’t tease me you won’t like where it will bring you?” “Maybe I will.” “You playing with fire babe.” He whispered from behind me before Eleanor came and looked for me. “I need to go.” “Me to see you Saturday.” Then he left and I went back to the kitchen.
“Who was that?” “Just a friend.” “His gorgeous.” If you only knew Eleanor if you only knew.
