The night went by so quickly especially after all the work we have done, but it wasn’t over yet, John came walking towards me “John, I hope you enjoyed it?” “It was lovely, I’m going to have a standing order with your bakery for every Friday, just to spoil the staff.” “I’ll do that on the house for you.” No no, we will pay, your business and your father’s business are separate I would never except them if you give them for free.” “Tell her John.” Romeo said as he joined us. “I was just thinking it was my way of thanking everyone for doing such a great job.” “No Jenn it will be John’s way of thanking them.” “Fine clearly I’m not going to win here.” “No, you’re not.” Sonja also came walking towards us, “Jennifer thank you for a lovely evening but I’m going to leave now.” “Thank you so much for coming Sonja and I hope John here treats you better than my father did.” “In this short time, he definitely has.” “Good, just call me if he stops.” I said with a huge smile making a joke but clearly the others didn’t see it as a joke because they were very serious. “Guys I’m joking.” That got me a few smiles. “Well then I’m going to walk Sonja to her car and leave as well.” “Thank you so much for coming John and it was really nice meeting you.” “Nice meeting you to.” He shook my hand then Romeo’s and they where off. “Why are they so serious?” “Just a sensitive subject angel.” “Oh, okay then.” Everyone followed John and Sonja, leaving one by one, next was Eva “You going so soon?” I asked her when she came to say good bye. “Yes, I have a busy day tomorrow.” “Thank you so much for your help today.” “My pleasure, I’ll send the cleaners in tomorrow then you can start to trade say at 11 am if you want.” “Thank you, Eva, really.” She gave me a hug and left. At the end of the evening, it was only Rufus, Lauren, Arlo, Sarah, Tom and Fergie that was left. We all sat around the table and talked a lot of nonsense. I told the staff they could leave when it got to late. The barista told me he would stay till the last person leaves, which I appreciated but I will also make it worth his while.
Suddenly everyone got serious around the table it was Tom that started to speak, “Jennifer I know all of us told you how proud we are of you, but I want you to hear us child. We watched you grow up right in front of us, and the women you’ve become regardless what your father did, and what he said to you, you are really a remarkable woman and we are really really proud of you.” A tear slipped out that I wiped away, Fergie was sitting close to me she took my hand “We really are.” I cleared my throat and said “I want to thank you guys, I’ve never knew you guys where only going to all these ridiculous functions for me I really appreciate it, I don’t know if I would have become the women I am if it wasn’t for you guys sheltering me from my father’s words every time. There are no words that I can even say to thank you.” Everyone just smiled at me it was Arlo that said “It’s our pleasure, but now you have this big man.” He slapped Romeo on the back. “To look after you and keep you safe.” “It doesn’t mean I don’t need you guys anymore, I mean our child is going to need grandparents and clearly my father is not going to be a part of their lives.” “We will always be there for you, Romeo and the bambinos. Rufus said. “Thank you, guys.” They all got up. “Well, I have to go to work tomorrow, so we are on our way.” Tom said, that made Rufus and Arlo also get up, it was so nice they still pull out the chairs for their wives after all this time. Romeo and I walked with them to the door. “Again, thank you for coming.” “We wouldn’t have missed it for the world Jenn.” Sarah said. I got kisses from everyone before all of them left. My barista cleaned the coffee machine. Romeo walked to him and gave him a few $100 dollars. “Thank you, Sir, but it isn’t necessary.” “Nonsense you deserve every cent. I’ll let one of my drivers take you home.” “Thank you, Sir.” “Jennifer should I be here at 10 tomorrow morning to make sure everything is clean before we open the doors?” “Yes please.”
When Romeo and I got in the SUV I immediately took off my red heels. “My feet are so sore.” He pulled my feet onto his lap and started to massage my feet. “That feels so good.” “You did so well tonight, Jenn, I’m so proud of you.” “Thank you, Romeo I couldn’t have done it, without you.” “Nonsense you would have. I have the utmost confidence in you.” “At least one of us had.” “Well after the night you had and all the excitement from the last week I have a surprise for you.” “You do?” “I do.” “What else can it be, I mean you gave me a whole spa afternoon; you gave me this beautiful necklace what else can you possible have for me?” He leaned over to me and whispered in my ear “A night at the club.” I couldn’t believe it I gave up any hope of that happening anytime soon. “You serious?” “Yes, Jenn tomorrow night.” I threw myself at him and hugged him I couldn’t believe it. We are going back to the place we’ve met.
