That afternoon a very tall blond guy with blue eyes entered my office, oh his going to be trouble for the ladies I thought as he walked towards me. “Mr. Bianchi.” “Romeo please, can I call you John?” “Yes, off course.” “Well John welcome thank you for making time for me today.” “No problem at all Josh said you want to speak to me about a position you have available?” “I like it straight to the point, but take a seat and let’s get some coffee or is it time for something stronger?” “No, I’m still on the clock thank you coffee is just fine.” That was probable a test even if I didn’t want to admit it to myself. “Good I’ll get my PA to get us some.” I called Ricardo and asked him to bring us two coffees, which was there in seconds. “Thank you.” John said to Ricardo. Another point for him, his got manners.
“Well tell me about yourself?” I asked him. “Well, I’ve been the CEO of Black Incorporated for the last 20 years.” “So, you were quite young in the position of CEO.” “I was but the owner groomed me to take over from him since I was in school, I worked there in my holidays.” “Oh, wow that’s amazing. Josh said they are paying you a very big package for closing the company.” “They are, they even offered me the company to buy off course, but I did with the company what I could, I build it to a multi-billion-dollar company, there is no where to take the company anymore and that is my passion, building a company to it’s ultimate potential and then I will search for more ways to build it.” “Well, that is exactly what I want to hear. I do have a position for the right CEO, I’m not sure if you know of the Bradford Rynn company?” “I am, his in real estate and has, I think one casino.” “That is correct, well I’m sorry to say this as Bradford is my friend but also my father-in-law but he ran that company into the ground. My wife and I got him to step down and I want someone else to run the business.” “And who will I be reporting to?” “Well, you will be the CEO all I expect from you is to build the company, make more money and once a quarter we can come together and talk about the performance of the company.” “So, there is no board?” “No John you will be running the company by yourself the only ‘board’ if you can call it that will be me and my wife because at the end of the day it will be her company.”
“Will she ever want to take over the company?” To tell you the truth John and I’m laying all my cards on the table now. She really doesn’t want anything to do with the company, she has her own business. I’m looking for someone that can run the company and can do it without someone looking over their shoulder. I have enough of my own businesses I don’t want to have to worry about Brad’s business.” “I’m definitely your man for running the company without anyone watching over my shoulder. I do my best work if I’m left alone to do my thing.” “That is what I want to hear. If things go well in the first quarter, we can even look at shares in the company.” “You serious?” “Yes, it will motivate you as well so I’m dead serious. You run the company like you want to, all I’m asking is that you don’t just fire people they’ve been through a lot with Brad and some of them is a little fragile at the moment, if that is the right word.” “No off course not, I’m not the kind of person that will go in and just fire people I need to see how they perform first.” “Good I don’t think Brad gave them any way to perform he had his dumb on them the whole time.” “No that is not my style.” “Are you interested?” I had to ask after a while because this guy was impressing me with everything he said. “To build a company basically from the ground up again, hell yes I’m interested.” “You don’t even want to see your salary package?” “I’m sure you won’t bring me here to waist my time Romeo, so send through what you have and I’ll tell you if we need to negotiate.” “That sounds fair, but the thing is I want you to start immediately.” “That’s no problem.”
“There is one problem, Brad lost it a bit and ruined his whole office, I would like you to go and have a look at the space and order whatever you need to make the office your own.” “What do you mean?” “Let’s just say there is not much left of his office he took a golf club to it and ruined the whole place I think even the desk is ruined.” “Well, he had some conviction in him.” “Yes, to fuck things up.” “Clearly there is no love lost between you and your father-in-law.” “Something like that. I want to tell you I did tell security his not welcome in the premises anymore.” “I take it you forcefully removed him from his position?” “Yes, so he might make problems but he won’t get to the office.” “Nothing I can’t handle.” “Well then John you want to meet at the office tomorrow morning and I can introduce you to the team and you can see your office?” “Yes, what time do you want to meet up?” “9 am good with you?” “Yes, it is.” We got up and shook hands. “I’m very happy you are coming on board.” “Me to but there is something we didn’t cover.” “Yes, and that is?” “The casino you want me to look after that to?” “No that is covered Josh is running the casino. You two can meet up and discuss the business.” “Great just don’t want to step on anyone’s toes.” “I’m sure you won’t’ Josh was the one that recommended you for this position so I’m sure the two of you will get a long just fine.” “Great I’m sure we will then I’ll see you tomorrow at 9 am?” “Tomorrow.” We got up shook hands and he was out of my office. When I sat back down, I felt like I accomplished a lot today. I had someone to run the company and I have someone running the casino. I can focus on my own businesses from now on and focus on my wife and our baby.
