Chapter 109 Intruder

After his morning team meeting, Case went back to his RV to rest and eat lunch before he had another interview that afternoon. He was glad to see the RV had been cleaned. He’d called the company the night before, asking them what to do, and they’d promised to send someone out right away to clean off the graffiti, which they’d done. While he could’ve called the police, he didn’t see the point in spending his last few hours with Andrea talking to the cops about who might’ve spray painted the RV when he already knew who it was.

Now that the paint was gone, he was glad things were back to normal. Just in case someone else wanted to pull some shenanigans, Case had called a company in to install some cameras on the outside of the RV that morning as well. That way, if Sarah or anyone else decided to start screwing around with his home away from home again, he’d have proof. While they were at it, they went ahead and put one inside his RV as well. He hoped he’d never need that one, but there was no telling what Sarah might do.

Once he pulled the golf cart to a stop, he stood up, stretched his back, and headed inside, glad he’d have a few hours to himself. It was too bad Andrea wasn’t still there, but he knew she had to get back to work. He’d check his phone in a minute, but first he needed to hit the head and fix a sandwich.

As soon as Case touched the doorknob, he knew something was odd. He’d told the camera installation people to make sure they locked the door, but it was open. Case stuck his head in and looked around. He could see the tiny cameras they’d installed in the living room. There should be one in the back of the home, too. But why hadn’t they locked the door?

From what he could tell, everything was in place. Nothing seemed to be disturbed. “Hello?” he called. There wasn’t any response, so he chalked it up to a simple mistake and headed into the bathroom.

He was in the middle of doing his business when he heard footsteps. Case froze for a second before he finished and went to the sink. He was washing his hands when he turned to see Sarah standing in his bedroom. Naked.

A movie he'd seen once where an ex-girlfriend tried to kill the man she'd once loved came to mind. “Sarah? What the hell are you doing here?”

“I came for you, of course,” she replied, seductively walking toward him. “I know you want me.”

“I want you to get the hell out of my house,” he replied. “Seriously, Sarah. This isn’t funny. It isn’t cute. Get out of here now.”

“Come on, Case! Your stupid girlfriend isn’t here. It isn’t like we haven’t been together before. What’s one more time?”

Case was still in the bathroom, and Sarah was still in the bedroom. “Get out now!”

“But Case, come on! You remember what I told you the other day. Don’t you want this to end?”

“Yes, I do. I want it to end with you leaving me the hell alone. I don’t want you, Sarah. I don’t like you. I don’t want to be with you anymore. Get out of my house now or I’ll call the cops.”

“You call the cops, and I’ll tell them you forced yourself on me, that you ripped my clothes off of me and pushed me onto the bed.”

“You’re going to make up stories about me, try to get me arrested, and thrown into prison because I’m picking Andrea over you?”

“I’m going to do that—if you don’t come out here and make magic with me, like we used to.”

That wasn’t how Case would’ve described it then, and he certainly wouldn’t feel that way about it now. Besides, he knew that there was a camera recording all of this right now, with sound, and it was being fed straight to his cell phone. “Get out now!”

Sarah lunged for him, and Case took a step back into the bathroom and closed the door, locking it before she could get in.

Her fists banged on the door as she shouted for Case to come out “or he’d be sorry” and all other sorts of threats.

Case had to decide what to do about the irrational woman on the other side of the door. He could call the police, but he chose to call someone else instead. If anything could make Gordo understand that his girlfriend was there for the wrong reasons, it had to be this.

“What the hell do you want?” Gordo asked. He was annoyed, but at least he’d answered.

“Gordon, can you hear me over your girlfriend screaming and beating down my door?”

“What are you talking about?”

He held the phone out. “She’s beating on my bathroom door, begging me to come out into the bedroom and have my way with her. Can you please come over to my RV and get her?”

“You’re lying! She’s at the salon getting her nails done.”

“Can you not hear her?”

“I can hear something, but that’s not Sarah. She would never….”

“If you don’t get over here in the next five minutes and get her out of here, I’m calling the police, Jones. It’s up to you.” With that, Case hung up. He saw he had a missed call and a few texts from Andrea, and he wanted to call her back, but at the moment, he was too busy with Sarah, which irritated him to no end. When was this nightmare going to be over?
