Chapter 84 Down Like Silver

Charlie didn’t throw the first punch—Whiskey did. But he was so drunk, he missed Charlie completely, and then Case stepped in, having deduced that whatever it was Whiskey had muttered, it was about his girlfriend. The old drunk had already p*ssed him off making Andrea uncomfortable, and now, whatever had come out of his mouth, he was going to pay for it.

Case stepped into the punch and let his arm fly, clocking Whiskey in the nose. Blood spurted everywhere, but mostly down the b*stard’s shirt. “You stay away from her, you hear me?”

Even though he was drunk and his first punch hadn’t gotten him anywhere, Whiskey felt no pain, apparently and came at him again. This time, he staggered and his fist hit a cowboy who’d been standing nearby, minding his own business. Until now. It was only hard enough to jar the man and make his beer slosh onto the floor, but the man was clearly angry. He pushed Whiskey off of him and shouted, “What the hell, man? Get away you drunk b*stard!”

Whiskey told him to F-off, and then the old man swallowed a few of his teeth. By now, others had gotten involved. Rolo wasn’t happy Whiskey was getting the hell beat out of him while he was drunk, so he came to his defense, and the cowboy’s buddy, another cowboy, got involved.

Case’s hand was aching. He’d drawn first blood, but he wasn’t about to stand around and end up looking like Whiskey by the end of the night. “Time to go,” he said to Andrea, pulling her away from the brawl.

She concurred. “Charlie, come on.”

“Man, you guys never let me have any fun,” he lamented, but he dropped the pool stick he was holding, which is part of the reason no one was messing with him yet, Case assumed, that and the fact that he was a foot taller than a lot of these guys. The three of them headed out the back, Brad on their heels. Case heard the bartender trying to get everyone to settle down before things really got out of hand. At the moment, the fight was mostly contained to the back part of the bar, but there were enough people inside now that it could get messy if they didn’t get it under control.

“Why you always gotta start fights, Andrea?” Charlie joked, headed to his truck, which was parked by Case’s.

“It’s just my way,” she joked. “Is your hand okay, Case?”

“It’s fine.” But it was stinging a little. Ice would be helpful.

“D*mn, I can’t remember the last time I saw you punch a guy in the face,” Charlie exclaimed.

Shrugging and unlocking his truck, Case said, “He swung at you while you were defending my lady. He deserved it.”

“I don’t disagree. I just think… if you’re willing to risk that handsome face of yours, this must be love.” Charlie winked at her, and Andrea started laughing.

Case felt his face turning red. “Why don’t you stay out of it before I make your face look like Whiskey’s?” he said to Charlie, giving him a light, playful shove.

Charlie chuckled and held his hands up. “No thanks. I got more photoshoots comin’ up, and this mug’s gotta be at its best, which ain’t saying much.”

“Whatever, Charlie. You’re one handsome man,” Andrea said, giving him a hug. “Thanks for standing up for me again.”

“Always. You two love birds have fun, and I’ll see you around.” Charlie kissed Andrea on the cheek and headed to his own vehicle as Case helped her into the truck.

“It’s always an adventure when we mix with alcohol, apparently,” Andrea said as he was closing her door.

He walked around and got behind the wheel, smirking at her. “I only had one beer. I don’t think it’s that. It think it’s a mix of other people drinking too much and your intoxicating beauty.” He leaned in for a kiss, and even though she was rolling her eyes at his comment, she kissed him, and then Case headed for home, wondering what Whiskey’s pictures were going to look like. It definitely wasn’t going to be pretty.
