Chapter 177 Shots Fired

“Don’t scream!” he said in a sharp whisper as Andrea’s hands went to cover her mouth. “If you scream, I’ll kill you before you even finish getting the first syllable out of your mouth, you stupid b*tch!”

It was Cam. His hair was wild, his eyes shifting, unfocused and frantic. “C—Cam what are you doing here?” Andrea stammered. “Why don’t you put that down, and we can talk.”

“Talk? You wanna talk to me? You—who ruined my life? I’m done with talk, Andrea Sparks. I’m going to finish what I started years ago. I had so many opportunities to take you out and didn’t do it because I didn’t want to get caught. Now, I’m going to prison for the rest of my life anyway, so I might as well kill you first.”

“What are you talking about, Cam? You haven’t been convicted of anything yet. You don’t know that you’re going to prison.”

“Of course I’m going to prison! I took a lie detector test, b*tch! And I didn’t pass! The only reason I’m out right now is because I’m rich enough to pay the bail. I paid that money so that I could come and end you. So, that’s what I intend to do. Drop your phone. Now.”

She did what he said, wishing she could dial faster but knowing he was watching her carefully. She put her phone on a table by the couch.

With a deep breathe, Andrea took a few steps toward the kitchen, thinking maybe she could get a knife. “Cam, don’t be silly. There’s no reason for you to want to kill me. I never did anything to you.”

“Yes, you did. You took her away from me! All of this—I did it for her. Now, she wants nothing to do with me because of you! So if I don’t get my happily ever after, neither do you!

Taking a few more steps, Andrea tried to reason with him. He spun with her, countering her movements so that the gun was off of her. The island that divided the kitchen from the living room area wasn’t that far away. Perhaps she could dive for it. Could his bullets go through that thick of a counter? “Cam, please. Don’t do this. I’ll help you anyway I can to stay out of prison for Sven’s case. I can give you an alibi.”

“It’s too late for that!” He suddenly seemed to realize she’d been moving. “Get over here, now! Away from the kitchen!”

“Cam….”

“Now! I will shoot you!”

Andrea took a few steps closer to him. “Please, Cam. Think about what you’re doing.” She wasn’t going to go down without a fight. If he was going to shoot her, he’d have to hit a moving target. The thunder rumbled outside again, and Andrea jumped.

Snickering, Cam said, “You’re afraid of a little thunder when a man has a gun pointed at you?”

“Yeah, I am afraid of thunder, Cam. Because I’m human. When I was a little girl, I saw my uncle die from getting struck by lightning, and I’ve been afraid of it ever since. I don’t want to see anyone else die. But if I scream for my bodyguards who are asleep in the other room to come out here, you will be dead.”

“You’re bluffing.” He laughed at her again. “I saw them leave earlier.”

“Not all three of them you didn’t.”

He thought about that a moment. “I guess I better go ahead and kill you, then.”

Andrea heard a rattle outside the door just then, the jingle of keys. “What’s wrong with the door?” It was Kelsey’s voice.

Terror swept through Andrea as she thought about what might happen. “Kelsey, no!”

“Stay back from the door, Kelsey,” she heard Rick say.

But Kelsey didn’t listen. “Andrea? What’s going on?”

Kelsey came through the door. Swinging the gun around to protect himself, Cam realized who it was and then pointed the gun back at Andrea.

“No! Kelsey! Stay back!”

“Andrea!”

It all happened so fast. Andrea heard the gun off, saw Kelsey running at her, saw Rick kick the door open, his gun in his hand, heard a second shot, and then she and Kelsey fell to the ground in a heap.
