Chapter 67 Never Let Go

Case picked Andrea up after she was done filming that evening. He could tell as she walked toward the car something was wrong. He got out to greet her and open the door for her. “Hi, beautiful. What’s the matter?” he asked, wrapping his arms around her.

“You’re never going to believe what happened today.”

“Oh, no. Was Sarah here?”

“That’s not even the half of it.” She rolled her eyes and got into the car.

Case went around to the driver’s side and got in. “Well, I was going to take you to a restaurant for dinner, but you seem upset. Would you rather go back to my place, and I’ll cook you something?”

Andrea’s disposition got even dimmer. “With your mom there?”

“No, that’s the best part. I convinced her to go home today.”

“You did?” Finally, a hint of a smile.

“Yeah, since I was going to the airport to talk Charlie, I took her, too. She agreed to go as long as I let her fly on my jet—which was fine with me, so long as she went.”

“Thank goodness something’s going right today,” Andrea muttered and rested her head on her fist on the door.

Case reached over and put his hand on her knee. “Do you want to wait until we get home to talk about it?”

“Yeah, if you don’t mind. I’ll just start crying, and I’d rather not cry all the way home.”

“Got it. Whatever you need, sweetie.”

Later, he fixed her a nice dinner of pasta primavera and opened a bottle of wine. Andrea looked as lovely as ever, but she was clearly tired. He waited until she was done eating before he reached over to take her hand, and asked, “Are you ready to talk about it? If not, that’s okay.”

“No, I am,” she said with a sigh. “Can we go in the living room?”

“Sure.” He filled her glass and his and took the rest of the bottle into the living room with them. Andrea kicked off her shoes and tucked her feet underneath her. She was wearing a nice dress that showed a hint of cleavage, and the way she was sitting, Case could see enough of what was beneath the collar that he decided to sit in a chair in order to leave some distance and actually hear what she had to say.

“So… because Travis’s face was all wrecked, Cam called Sarah to come in and film a scene today.”

“Oh, boy,” Case said, his stomach sinking. What had his ex done now?

“But that wasn’t the bad part, believe it or not. She was actually sort of civilized. She only did a few rude things while we were filming—like stepping on my foot and trying to trip me.” She rolled her eyes and took a sip of her wine. “It was who came with her that was unbelievable.”

“Who was it?” Case leaned in, anticipating she would say something like Sarah was now dating one of Andrea’s ex-boyfriends.

“Her dad came with her.”

Confused, Case asked, “And that was a problem because…?”

With a loud sigh and tears in her eyes, Andrea explained, “Because he’s my dad, too.”

“What?” Case could hardly believe his ears. “You’re kidding. How do you know?”

“I recognized him. I have a picture of my dad. His name is Alan—so is Sarah’s dad. Yeah, it’s him. I know it sounds crazy—but it’s true. He had a double-life. Two families at the same time, and he chose hers over mine.”

“Wow.” Case scratched his head. “I don’t even know what to say to that. Did you talk to your mom?”

“No, not yet. But I will. I just needed some time to process.”

“So Sarah is your sister?”

“Half-sister… but yes.”

“Unbelievable.”

“You’re telling me,” Andrea said, tossing back the rest of her wine.

Case moved over to the couch and wrapped his arm around her, kissing her on the forehead. What she needed right now was affection and a shoulder to lean on. She set her glass down and snuggled up against him. The scent of vanilla and lavender filled his lungs as he breathed her in.

Andrea was so beautiful. He was so glad they were getting close, that she considered him her boyfriend. While he was ready to take their relationship to the next level, physically, he didn’t think now was the time, not with her so upset.

Case brushed back her hair. “What can I do to make you feel better, baby?”

“Just hold me,” she said in a sleepy voice. “And never let me go.”

Case kissed the top of her head, still running his fingers through her hair. “I’ll never let you go.”
