Chapter 110 Sparks Sparkles
“How was it in Florida?” Travis asked as Andrea sat in her chair waiting for their next scene together. This was one of those boring times on set when she just sat around waiting for the rest of the film crew to be ready. Most of the time, she’d use this time to read or reply to email. Today, she was sipping a coffee, waiting for Case to call her back. He should be out of his meetings by now.
“It was good,” she said, forcing a smile. There was no need to tell him about the fight she’d had with Case, how ridiculous Sarah had been with the spray paint and the flat tires, or how Whiskey had tried to kill Case on the track. “How was your weekend?”
“Great.” Travis took the seat next to her, which was technically Lance’s, but he was over by the coffee machine talking to an assistant. “I went to this club, met this chick. She was so hot….” Travis shook his head slightly and stopped talking, like he suddenly realized Andrea wouldn’t want to hear about that. “Anyway… I’m gonna call her when I get home, see if she wants to hook up. Again.”
The way he said that last sentence made Andrea think this woman was make-believe and he was just trying to make her jealous, though that was never going to work. “Cool. What was her name?”
“Uh… And-rom-eda. Her name was Andromeda.”
Holding back a smirk at his lack of preparation (had he been about to say her own name, Andrea?) she asked, “Like the constellation?”
“The what?”
“Constellation. Group of stars.”
“Oh, no. She’s not a star. She’s a waitress at the club I went to. But she’s hoping to be a model someday.”
A laugh escaped Andrea’s lips at his ignorance, but she stifled it quickly. “Good for you. I’d love to meet her some time.” She had no idea why he felt it was necessary to make up a girl to make her jealous. Travis was attractive. He could get any number of girls. Was he just trying to get a rise out of her? It definitely wasn’t working.
“Yeah, so it’s really cool that you have a boyfriend, and I have a girlfriend. And Sarah has a boyfriend. It’s nice that all of us have a significant other.”
“I guess I didn’t realize Andromeda was your girlfriend, Travis. I thought you just met her.”
“Well, you know, we got serious pretty quickly. You should come meet her tonight. At the club. Do you have plans? I’m sure she’s a fan of yours.”
Andrea was starting to see where this was going now. “You’re sure she is? Did she say she was?”
“Uh… yeah. She did. She said she was so happy you’re nominated for such a huge award. You should totally come meet her tonight.”
“Okay, sure. I don’t have plans. I should be able to do that. What club?”
Travis’s face lit up. “We’re going to The Hang Out. Over on fifty-fifth. That’s her favorite club.”
“She works there?”
“Who works there?”
“Andromeda. Is that where she works?”
“Oh, uh… no. No, she works somewhere else. At a different club. As a bartender.”
“I thought you said she was a waitress.”
Travis’s eyes widened. “She… uh… does both.”
“Got it.” Andrea could see right through him. “What time?” She saw Kelsey walking up behind her out of the corner of her eye and knew she was listening, which was fine with her.
“Like… eleven?”
“Gosh, I have to be here early tomorrow. That’s kind of late for a work night.”
“We can make it nine if you want.”
“All right, sure. Nine is good. I’ll see you then.”
“Awesome!” Travis hopped up with a big smile on his face and bolted away.
“What the crap was that?” Kelsey asked, coming over with her arms folded.
“That was Travis trying to trick me into going to the club with him tonight,” Andrea replied with a crooked eyebrow.
“And you’re going?”
“Hell, no, I’m not going. But I have a friend who might want to go meet his ‘new girlfriend’ Andromeda.”
Kelsey was still looking at her inquisitively. “What have you got up your sleeve?”
“You know my friend Andre Sparkles, right?”
“You mean that friend of Stephon’s who does drag and looks almost identical to you?”
“Yeah. We’re friends, too. I bet he’d be interested in meeting Travis Copper.”
“You wouldn’t!” Kelsey covered her mouth an laughed.
“Sure—why not?” Andrea was already dialing her phone. “Gosh, I wish I could be there to see the look on Travis’s face if and when he realizes it’s not me.”
“Maybe we should go to the club tonight,” Kelsey said. “Maybe in a little reverse drag?”
Andrea burst out laughing and almost hadn’t contained herself by the time Andre Sparkles, whose real name was Kevin Smart, answered. “Hey, love. I’ve got a favor to ask of you….”
