Chapter 184 Destiny Ringing
Andrea woke up when an unexpected glint of light hit her in the eyes. She blinked a few times, trying to figure out why a rainbow was bouncing off of her hand. Then, she realized the morning light streaming in the windows was hitting her ring. The colors were gorgeous as they danced and dazzled in front of her eyes, and she couldn’t help but smile, even if her ring had woken her up an hour early.
Rolling over, she saw that Case was awake, too. He had his head propped on one hand and was staring down at her. “Good morning, beautiful.”
Andrea trailed her fingers down his chest. “Good morning, my handsome fiancé. Gosh, can you believe it?” She flashed her ring before his eyes as if he hadn’t seen it before. “We’re getting married!”
“No, I can’t believe it,” he said, brushing her bright red hair over her shoulder. “I can’t believe someone like you would want to marry a guy like me.”
“What are you talking about?” she asked, sitting up slightly. “Why wouldn’t I? You’re smart, funny, kind, and hot has hell.”
Case chuckled. “I’m a country hick who races cars for a living. You’re an award winning movie star who could date any actor, singer, or model she wants.”
Andrea definitely didn’t think that was true—none of it except for the part where he said he was a racecar driver and she as an actress. But she didn’t go into that. “I don’t want to date anyone but you. I don’t want to marry anyone but you.”
He leaned down and kissed her, and Andrea felt herself floating away to the land of bliss where he’d kept her late into the night. But then, Case pulled away. “Your family is here. We should join them for breakfast before we have to head to the track for practice.”
Letting out a sigh, Andrea acknowledged he was right with a nod of her head. “Okay. But can we at least take a shower?”
His breath ignited a fire within her as it caressed her cheek. “Together?” he asked in a husky voice.
“Uh huh,” she replied, unable to regain her voice.
Without a verbal answer, Case scooped her up and carried her to the shower. Andrea had a feeling her family might just have to eat without them.
By the time they joined the family in the kitchen, Karen and Leslie had a huge stack of pancakes, a plate full of bacon, and at least a dozen eggs ready to serve up. “Oh, good. You’re just in time,” her mom said with smile.
“You didn’t have to do all that!” Case said, giving Andrea’s mom a hug.
“Are you kidding? It isn’t every day my oldest daughter gets engaged to a handsome racecar driver,” she gushed.
“Where’s Charlie?” Andrea asked, grabbing a carafe of orange juice and carrying it to the table.
“I haven’t seen him yet this morning. If Charlie was here, we’d need twice as much food,” Leslie joked as she grabbed the eggs and bacon and carried them over. Case grabbed the pancakes, and Karen brought the butter and syrup. The table was already set, and Grandpa Jack and Tim were waiting for them.
Andrea and Case exchanged good mornings with the two of them, and then they all dug into a wonderful breakfast.
“Now, Andrea, ever since Case called last week and asked for your hand, I’ve been thinking about the wedding. I really hope you’ll let me make a few suggestions. I know it’s your wedding, but I’ve always wanted a big wedding. Tim and I had a small one, you know. You remember. So….”
“Of course you can be involved, Mom,” Andrea assured her, but she wanted to go back a few sentences. “Case called you and asked for my hand?” She couldn’t believe he was even more chivalrous than she’d thought, but it seemed to be true.
“He did,” Karen assured her with a proud smile as she looked at her soon-to-be son-in-law. "He asked all three of us, including Grandpa Jack."
Andrea looked at Case and almost had tears in her eyes again. “You’re so amazing,” she said, shaking her head.
She could tell he was embarrassed as his face was turning a shade of pink that made him look like he’d been out in the sun. Case shrugged. “I just wanted their blessing, that’s all.”
Andrea squeezed his hand, wishing she could kiss him, but she’d spare her family.
“What if they would’ve said no?” Leslie asked, an evil smile on her face.
Case replied, “I guess I would’ve had to pay them off.”
Everyone laughed, and Karen assured him, “We love you, Case.” Then, after a few seconds of thought, she added, “But if I would’ve known there was the possibility of a payoff, maybe I would’ve held out.”
Again, everyone had a good chuckle. Andrea looked around the table. She was so thankful to have such a wonderful family and couldn’t wait until Case was officially her family too. Visions of all of them sitting around a table in the future, along with Charlie, and at least three or four kids between herself and Leslie, had her smile broadening. Despite all the craziness from her job, Andrea lived a wonderful life, and she couldn’t be happier.
The dark thought that she didn’t deserve all of this, that something might happen that could take it all away, niggled in the back of her mind, but she pushed it away. For now, she was just going to be happy and not let anything ruin this moment.
