Chapter 148 Leo Likes to Talk
“So how have you been?” Leo Esposito asked, casually leaning against the wall by the coffee station. “I hear you’re dating some country racecar driver or something?’
“Country?” Andrea asked, not exactly sure what that was supposed to mean.
“Yeah… some redneck, NASCAR racer. Don’t they all love country music and talk with a thick Southern drawl?” Leo said the last part of the sentence in an accent heavier than Whiskey’s.
“Uh… no. Not all of them. Case doesn’t. He’s actually from Washington state, so he doesn’t have much of an accent at all.”
“Really? Huh.” Leo shifted, his arms folded now. “I thought they were all a bunch of hicks.”
“Yeah, so you said. What about you? Are you dating anyone?” Andrea was trying to be polite, but when that smirk she had come to hate appeared on Leo’s face, she wished she hadn’t asked.
“Sorry to disappoint you, Andrea, but I’m afraid I didn’t take this role so that you and I can get back together. I am seeing someone. I’m sure you’ve heard of her. The Swedish model, Ivanyia.”
“Nope. Sorry—I don’t know who that is.” Andrea was lying. She knew who he was talking about, but it seemed like maybe it would irritate him if she didn’t.
“You don’t? I thought everyone knew who she is. She’s a Victoria’s Secret model. She’s on the cover of Sport’s Illustrated’s swimsuit edition. Blonde, really big boobs, hot as hell.”
“Oh, I may have seen her I guess. It’s hard to say. So many of those models look the same.”
“True. Which must be really hard for you, since you look nothing like them,” he added.
Andrea rolled her eyes and stepped away from him. “I’m not a model, Leo.”
“You can say that again.”
“I prefer a challenging career that doesn’t involve standing around smiling and trying to look sexy.”
“That was a wise decision on your part considering you’re bad at both of those things.”
“Could you guys just not do that?” Lance asked, walking over between them. “We all know the two of you don’t get along. Why someone would warn all of us that we have to be nice to one another and then hire someone she knows the lead actress can’t stand is beyond me, but nevertheless, we’re not going to fight the whole time you’re here, are we Leo?”
Andrea knew Lance was right. She’d let Leo suck her into a stupid argument. “No, you’re right, Lance. Sorry.” The apology was to Lance, not to her ex-boyfriend. She didn’t have anything more to say to Leo. If she was smart, she wouldn’t say anything else to him the entire time he was there.
“Yeah, sorry, Lance. I’ll just ignore Andrea while I’m here. It’s not as if I have to interact with her much anyway. Thank, God.”
Andrea gave him a twisted half-smile and then walked away, thinking it would be best if she could just go sit in her chair and wait for Wilma to let her know they were ready to start filming. If they stuck to the schedule, Leo would only be there for two days, so surely she could ignore him for that long.
It didn’t help her cause when she loudly overheard him telling a few of the other cast members, “I’m sorry. I’ll try to ignore her. It’s just hard because she’d constantly trying to get my attention. If she could’ve held it while we were dating, who knows, maybe we’d still be together. But I know it ruined her self-esteem when she found out there were other girls I wanted to be with more. Maybe she’ll come around one of these days and stop her fascination with me.”
Andrea tasted bile in the back of her throat. That was not what had happened at all. While it was true she hadn’t held his attention—he had cheated on her with several other women—she certainly wasn’t fascinated with him, not anymore anyway. True, when they’d first started dating, she had been. She’d even thought maybe he would ask her to marry him. But when they’d met, she was a brand new actress, and he was an established actor, one all the ladies were after. She’d thought herself lucky to be with him. He ended up being a nightmare.
“Ignore him,” Kelsey whispered, standing behind her shoulder. “He’s an idiot, and everyone knows it.”
With a nod, Andrea did her best to do what her friend said. These were trying times, though. She was finally starting to get along with Sarah, sort of, and now Leo was here. Getting this movie filmed and over with was a must at this point. What she’d thought would be a fun project was now a living nightmare that never seemed to end.
