Chapter 174 Answer in the Stars
Racing at Charlotte was Case’s favorite for a number of reasons. A ton of people he knew and liked always came to the race. It was a huge speedway with lots of space and plenty of lanes so there usually weren’t that many wrecks. But best of all, he got to sleep in his own bed.
The fact that he wasn’t traveling meant he got to stay home and enjoy his own back yard. When Andrea called him Monday evening, he was sitting outside, looking up at the stars, thinking about how lucky he was that she was his girlfriend and wondering how long he had to wait to make her more.
“How was your day?” he asked her, so glad to hear her voice.
“So good,” she said, and he could tell she was smiling. “I got some awesome news a few minutes ago.”
He had a feeling he knew what it was, but he couldn’t wait to hear the words come out of her mouth. “What is it, babe?”
“I got the part.”
He paused for a second, letting that set in. “You did? In the movie you wanted?”
“Yes!” she squealed. “Can you believe it?”
“Well, of course I can believe it. I’m so excited for you though, baby. You deserve it more than anyone. You’ve worked so hard, and you’re finally getting the attention and accolades you deserve.”
“You’re so sweet, baby. I love you so much. I can’t wait to see you. I know I just saw you this morning, but it seems like it’s been forever already.”
“I know. But you’ll be here soon enough—and your family. We’ll get to spend the weekend at home, well, my home. I hope it feels like home to you, too. And once you’re done filming the movie you’re working on now, hopefully, you’ll have some time off.”
“That’s another great part. I don’t have to start filming again until August. I do have some promotional stuff I need to do for a movie that’s coming out in a few months that I filmed a few years ago. That’s it, though. I’ll get to be with you as much as you can stand me.”
The idea of seeing her so often settled over him, and a smile lit his face brighter than the stars he’d been staring at before she called. “That makes my heart so happy, Andrea. I want you with me every moment of every day.”
She was quiet for a second, and he thought maybe he’d said too much. Maybe he’d scared her a little bit. But then he realized she was crying. “I love you so much, Case.”
“I love you, too, Andrea. I’ll talk to you soon.” She said goodbye, and he hung up, thinking about how empty he felt once her voice faded from his ear.
The stars in the sky welcomed him back as his thoughts returned to what he’d been contemplating before. They hadn’t been a couple that long—less than six months. But they’d been through so much. Case had never felt this way about anyone before. He’d never felt this kind of love for anyone.
Sitting there in his own beautiful, vibrantly green back yard, Case knew exactly what he needed to do. A smile took over his face as he thought about it. He prayed it wouldn’t be another situation like with his mother and his brother, but at this point, he didn’t even care about anyone else, other than Andrea. He needed to make her his for all time, and there was only one way to do that.
Now, to come up with the perfect plan to ask her to be his wife. While he had seen all of these creative proposals online lately, that really wasn’t his style. Still, as special as Andrea was, he couldn’t just blurt it out over a cup of coffee or mention it in passing at breakfast. He’d have to come up with something that would let her know he’d put a lot of effort and time into his proposal and maybe even catch her off-guard. It wouldn’t be easy to come up with something fitting for such an amazing woman, but he’d figure it out.
“Or… I could just call my sister,” he muttered aloud. Shayna would be the perfect person to give him advice about proposing to Andrea. With a grin on his face, he dialed his sister, hoping she answered so he could share his decision with someone he trusted and get some tips for ensuring his future was as bright as the stars above him.
