Chapter 112 Filling in the Blanks
The sound of her phone vibrating in the pocket of her costume was a breath of fresh air to Andrea. She’d just walked off of the set after filming her scene with Lance and was so glad that it was Case calling her. She had so much to tell him.
Sitting down in her chair, she said, “Hey! How are you?”
“Andrea… it’s so good to hear your voice. I’m okay. How are you?”
She could tell from his tone that he wasn’t okay at all, but it was one of those “don’t ask me what’s bothering me because I’m not going to tell you” sort of tones she was used to whenever he just didn’t want to worry her. “Good. I did want to tell you about something though.” She looked around to make sure Cam wasn’t anywhere near. Since he wasn’t, she said, “Cam came to talk to me this morning. The company is mad that I told you and the cops about what Sarah did.”
“Seriously?” He sounded more agitated than she did. “Why? That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. What were you supposed to do, not tell the police?”
“I don’t know what they expected, but they told me I could get a fine if I do it again.” She didn’t go into all of the details because she didn’t think they’d fire her from this movie that was nearly done being filmed over it. But… at least something good happened later.” She snickered, remembering Travis’s face when she agreed to meet him at the club.
“What’s that?” Case asked, curiosity in his voice.
“Well, Travis wanted me to go to the club with him tonight.”
“Do you have a date?” His voice was teasing, and it made her giggle.
“No, but I think he thinks he does. He said he was meeting some girl there. I’m sure he made her up because he couldn’t come up with a name and ended up saying it was Andromeda.”
“Lots of people are named Andromeda.”
“Oh? Are they? Name one person named Andromeda. And that chick from that movie Clash of the Titans that the constellation is named after doesn’t count.”
“Okay. Uh… there’s Andromeda Smith. Andromeda Jones. Andromeda Johnson.”
“You’re just putting the name Andromeda with popular last names.” She couldn’t help but laugh. He was being so silly.
“No, I’m not. Look them up on social media. You’ll see.”
She had no doubt that there were a few people named Andromeda on social media, probably even some with those last names. But he didn’t know them. And neither did Travis. “Anyway, he asked me to meet him there, and I said yes, but I’m not going. Not as myself anyway.”
“Is it one of those costume clubs where everyone wears a get-up like it’s Halloween?”
“No,” she said, smiling at him being all funny again. “But I’ve asked my friend Andre Sparkles to go, and he said he’d love to. So Kelsey and I are going to put on some disguises and go check it out. It should be a hoot.”
“You sound like Charlie,” he noted about her word choice. “So you’ve set your friend Travis up with your impersonator friend? Doesn’t that seem a little cruel?”
“Hey, it’s not a date with me, remember? He’s going to meet Andromeda there.”
“That’s right. Well, I’ll definitely want to hear how that goes. Thanks for letting me know so that if I see any tweets or posts about it, I’ll know what’s up.”
“Sure thing. Now, what’s up with you? You didn’t sound so happy when I answered the phone. Is Sarah up to her shenanigans again, and don’t lie to me, please.”
“You could say that. She snuck into my RV, and I had to get Gordo to come and drag her out. She didn’t do any harm, though. I had those security cameras installed, so he could hear her screaming that I should take her back.”
Andrea absorbed that for a moment. “Gosh, I almost feel sorry for him.”
“I know. I do, too. Almost. Anyway, I feel better now that I’ve talked to you about it. I have to go, though. I have another meeting to get to.”
“With the team?”
“Something like that.” Again, Andrea didn’t think that he was being completely forthcoming, but she didn’t pry. “I love you. I’ll try to call you between the end of your shoot and your big night at the club, okay?”
“Okay, I love you, too.” She hung up and cradled the phone for a second, wishing it was his hand. Now that she’d spoken to Case, she felt a lot better about everything, and she could tell he did, too. It was just too bad she wouldn’t see him again until Friday. A lot could happen in four days. A lot.
