Chapter 180 It's All Going to Be All Right

It seemed to take forever before a doctor came out to speak to Andrea and Rick. When he did, they both jumped up and grabbed hold of each other’s arms. “I’m glad to tell you Kelsey is stable,” the doctor said. “We removed the bullet and repaired all of the damage. She’s resting now, but you should be able to see her in an hour or so.”

“Thank goodness,” Andrea said, letting out a loud sigh and pressing a hand to her forehead. “She’s going to be okay then?”

“Yes, we expect her to make a full recovery,” the doctor assured them.

Andrea felt relief washing over her as she realized Kelsey was going to be okay. “Thank you so much,” she said, shaking the doctor’s hand. Rick thanked him, too, and the doctor left.

Sinking back into her chair, Andrea leaned her head back. She hadn’t slept at all the night before. Until now, she’d been too wound up to even feel tired, but knowing Kelsey would be all right made her suddenly feel exhausted.

A few hours later, a nurse came to tell them that Kelsey was awake and they could take turns going in to see her. Andrea let Rick go first. As he went in, she did her best to wake up so that she could be alert to talk to her friend. While she hadn’t quite fallen asleep in the chair, she’d dosed off a few times. Now, she was excited to see Kelsey.

After Rick came out, Andrea went in. Kelsey was pale and her voice was weak when she greeted Andrea, but she looked good. “How are you feeling?” Andrea asked her, approaching the bed and taking her hand.

“I’m okay. The pain medicine is definitely working. But why are you still here?”

“I couldn’t leave, not with you in the hospital. You saved my life, Kelsey.”

“Oh, I don’t know if that’s true,” Kelsey replied. “But it doesn’t matter. You would’ve done the same for me.”

Andrea knew that was true. “I’m just so thankful you’re all right.”

“Me, too.” Kelsey smiled at her. “But… you need to go to Charlotte.”

“How can I leave you, though, Kelsey? You’ve been through so much.”

“Andrea, I’m fine. Rick is here. He’ll make sure I’m well taken care of. Case is waiting for you. Your family is probably already in Charlotte or on their way. Go, get on the plane, and get to your man!”

Andrea turned her head to the side and looked at her for a moment, trying to decide if she meant it. “Are you sure?”

“I’m sure. I love you, Andrea.”

“I love you, too, Kels. So much.” She gave her a small hug, careful not to touch her shoulder and then got up to let her rest.

Back in the waiting area, Andrea approached Rick. “She wants me to go ahead and go to Charlotte.”

“I think you should,” he replied with a nod. “Case and your family are there. Don’t worry about Kelsey. She’ll be fine.”

“If you’re sure….”

“I’m sure. Go.” He gave her a smile, and Andrea hugged him, too, glad her friend had someone to take care of her who really loved her.

Her mind made up, Andrea called for a car to take her back to her apartment so she could pack her bags. Then, she called Case to tell him to send the plane to get her. It would take it a while to get there, but she would need some time to pack. She might even try to sneak in a little nap, though it would be hard to sleep in an apartment with giant blood stains on the carpet.

Thinking of walking into her apartment with the mess made her stomach turn over. Her car arrived, and she got it, wondering how long the police would insist they leave the scene as is. Andrea had been planning to stay in Charlotte a few days but to come back to LA for the wrap party for the movie she’d just finished, but now, she was thinking she might just stay in Charlotte until she was sure the investigation was over and she could have the carpet replaced.

“Maybe it’s time to start looking for a new apartment…” she muttered under her breath as she headed into the building.

The paparazzi were out in full force, snapping pictures and shouting questions. Andrea waved, but she didn’t stop to answer any questions. She didn’t have the energy for that at the moment.

Inside her apartment, the cops were gone. The door had been repaired where Cam had busted in, and everything was as it should be inside the room—except for the blood. It looked like the investigation was over, at least for now, but she wasn’t planning on touching anything.

Andrea headed to her room to pack, closing the door so she wouldn’t have to think about the situation in the living room. She was thankful she would get to leave and not think about it at all for a few days.

After her bags were packed, she set an alarm and lay down on her bed, thinking about how different it had been when she went to bed the night before. While she had been afraid of the storm last night, it had been a different sort of terror that had been the true threat. She did feel safe now, though, knowing Cam was gone for good. Thinking of Case and how happy she’d be to feel his arms around her soon, Andrea fell asleep.
