Chapter 130 Accusations

Sarah’s face was all over the news. Andrea and Case had the television on while they were eating a late breakfast/early lunch, trying to figure out what had happened. Despite the fact that all of the entertainment news channels were covering her arrest and speculating about what had happened, no one knew for sure.

One of the reporters, a young, energetic man by the name of Clint Townsend, was interviewing an “entertainment expert,” a woman Andrea had met a few times who seemed to think she knew Hollywood inside and out. Stacy Smallwood had a smug look on her face as Clint asked, “What do you think Sarah Lockton has done to land herself in a Daytona jail cell?”

“Well, clearly, this is related to the rivalry between Sarah Lockton and Andrea Sparks,” the self-proclaimed expert said nonchalantly, her nose in the air.

“Really?” Clint asked, his eyebrows arching. This was the first time Andrea had heard her name, and the bite of muffin she’d just put into her mouth seemed to suddenly taste like mud. “Why do you say that?”

“Clint, we all know the two actresses have been at war for years. Now, Andrea Sparks is dating Case Meyer, Sarah’s ex-boyfriend. They were both at Daytona International Speedway this weekend. Sarah claims to be dating Stewart Antony these days, the driver who almost came in second in the 500, while Andrea is dating Case Meyer, the winner. Stewart might’ve won if Case’s teammate hadn’t wrecked him. If I had to make a guess, I would say something must’ve happened between the two women after the race. Sarah is known for having a temper. I’m guessing within a day or two, pictures of a cat fight will be leaked.”

The anchor continued to stare at his guest with wide eyes for a moment before he admitted, “I’d really like to see that.”

Stacy snickered. “Wouldn’t we all? Frankly, though, I think Hollywood is getting tired of the shenanigans between these two. Andrea is always claiming she does nothing wrong while Sarah is constantly picking on her. Sarah says it’s the opposite. Who really knows? What we can be sure of is, if Sarah’s in jail, it’s no doubt related to Andrea Sparks in one way or another.” She looked so confident, Andrea wished she could reach through the screen and shake her.

“So you don’t think this has anything at all to do with the allegations Gordon Jones made after the race last night?” Clint clarified.

Stacy looked confused for a moment, as if she had no idea what he was talking about. Andrea folded her arms, excited to see how Stacy might work her way out of this. “Uh… no. I don’t believe so. My money is definitely on the two actresses at this point.”

“Okay. Interesting spin on the situation. Thank you, Stacy Smallwood. We’ll be right back.”

Case clicked the TV off. “I don’t think you should watch any more of that.”

“I agree. Why does my name come up every time Sarah does something to get herself into trouble?”

“I don’t know, but I’m almost sure she’s in jail for tampering with Gordon’s car. I’m sure there are cameras all over that garage.”

“Do you think she did it herself, or did she pay someone off to do it?”

“That is a good question, but the fact that they have her in jail makes me think they must have her on film.”

Andrea was about to agree with him when her phone rang. She didn’t recognize the number, but it was from Daytona. She rarely answered calls from people she didn’t know, but curiosity got the better of her now. “Hello?”

“Andrea?”

The voice on the other side was clouded with tears and sobs, but she knew immediately who it was. “Sarah? What do you want?”

“Please, help me. I can’t get anyone to help me with bail.”

“What? Don’t you have enough to cover it?”

“Not in my account. Not at the moment. Stewart’s angry, so he won’t do it. My parents don’t have that kind of money. Could you please, please just get me out of here? I promise, I’ll be nice to you from now on. I won’t cause any problems at all.”

“What does she want?” Case asked, his hands on his hips as he stood next to her.

“She wants me to get her out of jail.”

Case’s eyes bulged, mirroring Andrea’s feelings.

“Please, sister. You’re my only hope.” Sarah was crying heavily, awaiting an answer.

Andrea inhaled deeply. She’d always been taught to give people second chances, to give them the benefit of the doubt. But this was Sarah, and she’d had more second chances than Andrea could count. How could she possibly help someone who’d tried to kill her at least once, maybe twice? Even a saint would be silly to keep handing a knife to someone so that they could stab them in the back.

After a few seconds of listening to Sarah cry, Andrea decided what to do and told her half-sister her answer, hoping she’d made the right decision.
