Chapter 94 And the Nominees Are...
Being home for a few days was long enough for Andrea. She was ready to get back to work. Even though she hadn’t heard anything from the officers yet about Sven’s involvement with Sarah or even whether or not they’d come to the conclusion that Sven had tried to kill her, she felt safe on set. She’d hired a third bodyguard, and the rest of the people involved in the movie had assured her that they would be keeping an eye on her to make sure she was safe.
Thankfully, she didn’t have any more scenes where she had to go into the water. That was a good thing, because she didn’t think she could do it anyway. Not now.
On her third day back, there was a nervous buzz on the set, and she couldn’t figure out what was going on. Everyone was nervously watching their phones, strolling around with their heads down, doing what they normally did but with their heads down. Andrea had no idea why.
A little early to makeup, she took her seat and waited on Stephon. She could see him over by Nevaeh, and they were both fluttering their arms about something, looking at her phone and then chattering. Finally, she heard Stephon say, “Girl, keep me posted. I’ve gotta go do Miss Thing’s face.” He came over with a big smile on his face, and Andrea knew he’d meant that nickname as a compliment. “Hey, girly. You seem calm.
“I am calm. Why wouldn’t I be?” She was so confused!
“Don’t you know? The nominations come out soon, honey! Should be any minute now.”
“Nominations! Oh, my goodness! I totally forgot!” Today was the day they announced the nominees for the biggest awards show of the year. Some people said she might be nominated for her role in Shadows of Silence, but Andrea wasn’t keeping her fingers crossed over it. She didn’t know if she was actually taken seriously by her colleagues of if they just saw her as a pretty face who played mostly in chick flicks and other “unimportant” movies. But Shadows of Silence wasn’t that sort of movie at all. It was a drama, much like the one she was staring in now, and she would love for it to be her breakout role, one that no one could ignore.
“They just announced nominations for best costume nominations, and I got one for Rumble and Roll!” Nevaeh shouted with a smile on her face.
Andrea couldn’t help but clap, despite the fact that she was risking messing up her face. Luckily, Stephon pulled away so he could clap, too. “That’s amazing, girl!” he shouted.
“You so deserve it, Nevaeh!” Andrea exclaimed. “You’re so great at what you do.”
“Thank you, sweetie! I’ve got my fingers crossed for you.”
Andrea nodded in thanks but didn’t expect she’d get a nod this year. It would be great, but she wasn’t holding her breath.
“Stella Croy is nominated for best actress for Shadows of Silence!” Lance said, running over to tell her.
“That’s great! She was so amazing in the movie.” Andrea was so happy for the actress who had played her mother in the movie. She pulled out her phone to send a congratulations text when she realized she had several “congratulations” texts herself, a few missed calls, and a message from Case saying he was so proud of her. “Wait—what did I miss?”
“Didn’t you hear?” Lance asked her. “You’re nominated, Andrea.”
“Wait—what!” She couldn’t believe her ears.
“She is?” Stephon asked, his face breaking into a giant smile.
“Yeah. You didn’t hear? I’m sorry. I sent you a congratulations text earlier.” Lance looked as if he felt bad for not having said that first.
“No, I….” Andrea could hardly believe it until she saw it for herself. She did a quick search and sure enough, she was nominated for her role in Shadows of Silence. She scrolled through the names of the other women nominated. Most of them were hard working actresses that she just loved—but one of them was not. “Sarah’s nominated, too,” she said, her stomach twisting into a knot.
“You’re sh*tting me.” Stephone was shaking his head.
“No, for that movie she was in about freeing the tigers from the zoo—Set Them Free.”
“Well, I hardly even remember that movie,” Lance said with a shrug. “There’s no doubt you’ll beat her.”
“Thanks, Lance.” Andrea tried to be happy. She truly was overjoyed to be nominated. If she lost to most of these women, she wouldn’t be upset at all. But if she lost to Sarah…. She couldn’t even imagine what that would be like.
“Sweetie, you gonna call your man and let him know?” Stephone asked her.
“Yes, of course,” she replied. “As soon as you’re done with my face.”
He chuckled and finished up her makeup so she would have a chance to call Case before she had to go shoot her scene. Despite the fact that Sarah was her competition, Andrea was still happy. She couldn’t wait to call Case and her mom—her two biggest fans. Winning would be extraordinary, but just the fact that she was nominated meant so very much to her. It was sort of like winning already.
