Chapter 20 The Boy Toy Gets Caught

Snow was falling again as Case and Andrea headed inside of her mom’s house. Leslie’s car was in the driveway, so Andrea’s stomach was in knots as she walked in, but the downstairs was quiet. She hoped that meant they’d stay upstairs so Brent would leave her alone.

Her sister had scowled at her all day at the hospital until they’d finally left about an hour ago. Andrea wanted to patch things up, but until Leslie was ready to talk about it, she’d just have to wait.

“Boy, the snow sure looks beautiful through the picture window in the parlor. It would be peaceful to sit and watch it,” Case said as they walked in the door.

“We can do that, if you’d like.” Andrea really didn’t want to go upstairs where Brent and Leslie were anyway. “I can make some hot cocoa from my mom’s secret recipe.”

“That sounds great.” Case smiled at her, and Andrea instantly felt warm inside. “I have a few phone calls I have to make, though. Could I run upstairs and do that while you’re making it, or do you need help?”

“I can manage.” She grinned at him and watched him head for the stairs. He was probably the most handsome man she’d ever met, and that was saying something considering how many movie stars she’d worked with. The stubble on his chin made him even better looking, and it was hard for her to tear her eyes off of him and go to the kitchen. Once he disappeared up the stairwell, she had no reason to keep standing there, so she headed in to make the cocoa.

She’d just gotten the milk boiling when she heard footsteps. Assuming it was Case, a warm smile came across her face. But when she turned to see it was Brent, the smile melted away.

His hair was disheveled, like he’d been in bed. She didn’t want to know what he and Leslie had been up to. With the kitchen lights dimmed, he looked slightly menacing. Andrea wasn’t afraid of him, even though he was a lot bigger and stronger than her because she knew Case was in the house—and so did Brent. Still, he had a look in his eyes that she didn’t like, and she wondered if he’d been drinking.

“Whatcha doin’, Andy?” he asked with a crooked grin on his face.

“Uh... only Grandpa calls me Andy,” she corrected. “I’m making hot chocolate. What are you doing?”

“I just came downstairs to grab something to eat while your sister sleeps. I wore her out.”

Andrea’s stomach rolled. “Fridge is over there.” She gestured with her head, as if he didn’t already know that. Turning her back on him seemed like a bad idea, so she only turned away slightly to stir the milk.

He didn’t head to the kitchen though. Instead, he closed the distance between them. “You know, at first I thought you were naughty for telling your sister about what’s going on between us, but then, when she didn’t believe you, I realized it was actually a good thing.”

“What’s going on between us?” Andrea backed into the counter. He was right in front of her now. She could smell alcohol on his breath. Eyeing the boiling milk, she wondered if she could splash him with it and not burn herself.

“Yeah. Come on, Andy, you don’t have to deny it. Leslie doesn’t believe I’d cheat on her, so why not see where this can go? You can’t possibly be into that Uber driver.”

Andrea couldn’t help but sneer at him. “Uber driver? Case is a NASCAR driver, dumba*s. He’s a successful professional athlete.”

Brent’s expression shifted. “He is? Oh.”

“Besides, it’s obvious to me you’re just trying to further your career. Now, take a step back before you regret it!”

He chuckled. “Whatcha gonna do, Andy?” He dared to lift his hand to caress her cheek. Her eyes went to the milk again. “I know you won’t hurt me. I wanna make you scream, though.” His smile widened. “Not in pain, but in pleasure.”

“What the hell!” The kitchen lights came on, and Leslie flew into the room, her hair a mess but her eyes wide open. “Brent? What are you doing?”

“I told you to never touch me again!” Brent yelled at Andrea, but it was obvious by the way they were standing that he was the aggressor. Leslie wasn’t buying it.

“You jerk! Andrea was right! You are hitting on her! I can’t believe I ever trusted you!” Leslie stormed off up the stairs, Brent following behind her, begging her to stop.

Andrea watched for a moment, debating about whether or not she should say try to help her sister, but it seemed like Leslie had it under control now. She took a few deep breaths and finished making the cocoa, hoping this meant that Brent would be out of their lives forever now. With any luck, her sister was headed upstairs to get his stuff—and throw it out the window.
