Chapter 183 Big Question
Thousands of candles lit every free surface in the foyer of Case’s home, including up the outside of the stairwell and even in clusters on the floor in the corners. Scattered all over the wood floor were thousands of white rose petals. It looked like a soft floral snow had fallen inside of his home. The fragrance was breathtaking, and as Andrea stood and took it all in, she put a hand to her mouth and tried not to cry.
Soft music was playing, and as tears gently flowed down her cheeks, Case asked her, “May I have this dance?”
All she could do was nod because no words would form in her throat. He put one hand on her hip and took her other hand in his. The two of them began to move in time to the music, swaying and rocking their bodies as one. Andrea rested her head on his shoulder, feeling as happy and content as she could ever remember feeling in her entire life.
Andrea didn’t recognize the first song, but when the next one started, she instantly realized it was an instrumental version of “Unchained Melody,” one of her favorite love songs of all time. She closed her eyes and listened to the beautiful tune, Case’s strong arms a shelter for her against the rest of the world.
She never wanted the song, the moment, to end, but as the last notes lingered in the air, Case stopped moving. Andrea raised her head to look into his eyes, and while he kept one of her hands in his, he let go of her waist. “Andre, I have something I’d like to ask you.”
Her eyes bulged as she realized what was happening. Case reached into his jacket pocket with his free hand and dropped down to one knee. She covered her mouth with her free hand and watched in shock as he presented a beautiful, sparkling diamond ring still in the box.
“Andrea, ever since I met you, I’ve known that you and I were meant to be together. Not only are you beautiful, kind, loving, and intelligent, you’re also patient and understanding, which is something I definitely need in my world.” She giggled, and he continued. “I know it’s not easy, trying to work around each other’s schedules and make sure we get to see each other as much as possible, but we’ve always made it work. I want to keep making it work for the next ninety or a hundred years.”
Tears were rolling down her cheeks in streams now as he continued. “I have no idea what the future holds, but I know, no matter where I go or what I do, I want to be with you. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect person to spend my life with. So, Andrea, will you make me the happiest man in the world and say you’ll be my wife?”
She was crying so hard by the time he’d finished, she couldn’t speak, so Andrea just nodded her head as Case slid the ring on her finger. He stood, and she wrapped her arms around his neck, kissing him with all the love and passion she felt in her heart. It took her a moment to realize that people were cheering.
Andrea pulled away and looked up. There, on the balcony overlooking the foyer, was her family and Charlie. They were all clapping and cheering for the happy couple.
Pressing a hand to her face, she looked up at them. “How long have you been standing there?”
“Long enough to see the big moment!” Charlie shouted back.
“Don’t worry! We’ll all see ya kissin’ at the weddin’, too!” Grandpa Jack joked.
That got a big chuckle out of all of them. “You guys!” Andrea said. “Come down here and look at this ring!”
Still cheering, the whole family came down the stairs. Andrea couldn’t help but kiss Case once more, even if her family did see. He had gone to so much trouble to make this a special evening for her, one she’d never forget, and she was so lucky to have such a wonderful man who loved her so completely.
“Did you know?” Leslie asked her as she approached.
“Did I know? No, I had no idea!” Andrea exclaimed. “I just thought he was trying to make it a memorable night.”
Her sister laughed. “It would’ve been hard to top this when he was going to propose then. Let me see the ring.”
Andrea stuck her hand out, and Leslie and her mom oohed and aahed over how beautiful the diamond was. Andrea loved it, even though it was slightly larger than she would’ve ever imagined wearing if she’d picked it out for herself. The cut and band were stunning. It was perfect—as was the man who’d given it to her.
“This calls for a toast!” Tim shouted. Luckily, they’d considered that, too, it seemed. He stepped over to a tray already prepared in the kitchen and soon returned with glasses for everyone. “To Andrea and Case, the most wonderful couple in the world!”
They all clanked glasses and drank to that toast, and Andrea was certain this was a night she would never forget.
