Chapter 71 Breakfast for Two
Case woke up with his arms around Andrea. She was so beautiful when she was asleep. He’d woken up next to her before, thanks to their travel arrangements and that awful storm. But this was different.
They’d finally taken their relationship to the next level, and it was better than he could’ve ever imagined. He’d been with several women, but with Andrea, everything was different. Every touch, every caress, every kiss, was special. She was an amazing woman in every way imaginable, and he didn’t ever want to let her go.
But he had to. Her alarm would be going off soon. She’d have to get up and get to the studio, and he had a plane to catch. Even though it was his own plane, there was no pushing it off. As it was, he’d been away from his team for too long. They had a lot of work to do to get ready for Daytona, the first and biggest race of the year. It was time for Case to start getting his mind set for racing. It would be so difficult not to see Andrea every day, but Case had a job to do, with lots of people counting on him.
Quietly, he got dressed and snuck out of bed and into the kitchen to fix her a nice breakfast on their last morning together. He was almost done with the pancakes when she came in, looking gorgeous in just her white, satin robe, her hair falling around her shoulders.
Yawning, Andrea stretched and asked, “What are you doing?” She came over and wrapped her arms around his waist, resting her cheek on his arm.
“Making my angel some breakfast,” he replied. He flipped over the bacon and poured the last of the pancake batter.
Inhaling deeply, Andrea said, “Everything smells so good. You really didn’t have to go to all of this trouble.”
“I wanted to.” He leaned down for a kiss, barely letting go in time to keep the eggs from burning. “Have a seat at the table, and I’ll bring it to you.”
She kissed him again and then did as he suggested. A few minutes later, he set an overflowing plate in front of her, got the syrup and butter, and poured her some coffee.
“Case, this is delicious!” she exclaimed after a few bites. “I had no idea you could cook so well.”
“I’m glad you like it.” He beamed with pride. Breakfast wasn’t too difficult to cook, but he didn’t do it often. He’d never enjoyed it much, but he liked seeing how happy it made Andrea.
After breakfast, they took a shower together, and then, Andrea got dressed, ready to head into the studio. It was time to say goodbye.
“Promise me you’re not going to cry,” he said, stroking her cheek lovingly.
“I’m trying not to. It’s just… I’m going to miss you so much. I had no idea how much it meant to have someone like you in my life, Case, someone who cares so much about me and acts so selflessly.”
“I’m going to miss you, too. But we’ll talk every day. And I’ll see you Saturday morning, bright and early.”
Andrea nodded. “I can’t wait.”
Case leaned down and kissed her goodbye. “I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
The car was waiting to take Andrea to the studio, so she had to go. “Take care,” Case said and watched her leave.
Once she was gone, he took a deep breath. He needed to go back to his friend’s apartment and get his things before he headed to the airport, but first, he needed to write Andrea a note so she’d have something nice to come home to. He found a pen and a pad of paper and wrote her a little message, folded it in half, wrote her name on it, and set it on the coffee table where she’d see it.
With a sigh, Case took one more look around Andrea’s apartment and left, hoping he’d get to come back here as soon as he had a break in his racing schedule. They’d had some great conversations here, spent many intimate moments together, and he loved how much of her was in this place.
Making sure the door was locked, Case walked away, his disposition changing. It was time to start thinking about racing. He needed to get his game face on. Andrea would be in his heart and in the back of his mind, always, but now, he needed to think about winning the Daytona 500.
