Chapter 163 Confession

Sarah made bail and was out the next day, and Andrea couldn’t help but feel relieved even though the reason for her half-sister’s arrest was because they said she was involved in the attempted drowning.

When Sarah asked to meet with Andrea after they were both done on set two days later, Andrea was hesitant to go at first, but she finally decided she’d rather hear what Sarah had to say than speculate.

They arranged to meet at an out-of-the-way restaurant where there hopefully wouldn’t be a ton of people who wanted to photograph them or interrupt. Andrea wrapped a scarf around her hair and wore sunglasses. She didn’t want to be seen at all, but she especially didn’t want to be seen with Sarah.

It was no surprise that Sarah was late. It was pretty typical of her. Andrea sipped a cup of tea, trying to relax. It had been another busy day on set. Wilma didn’t know how to speak in a normal tone. It was all shouting and screaming. At least the director had conceded that she could work with the footage she’d gotten from Sarah the day before so that they wouldn’t have to bring the actress back on set. With just seven more days of filming to go, Andrea was praying she’d make it through.

While she waited, she flipped through the script she’d decided to take on next, provided she got the part. She had a feeling it would be hers as soon as she said she was interested, thanks to the award she’d recently won. She was a hot commodity at the moment, which was unusual for her, but she was glad to have her face in the limelight. With any luck, the legal issues with Cam and Sarah wouldn’t put her face there for the wrong reasons.

Sarah hustled in, looking disheveled. She was nothing like the diva that had sashayed on set only a few months ago. When she pulled her sunglasses up to look around for Andrea, she noted the dark bags beneath the blonde’s eyes. She was wearing a nice outfit, but it was clear it hadn’t been pressed recently, and the hat she’d slapped onto her head didn’t fit well.

“Hi. Sorry I’m late. It was hard to get out of my house.” She slid into the booth, took her hat off, and fluffed up her hair. “How are you?”

“Okay.” Andrea managed a smile. “I’d ask how you are, but I’m assuming it’s not good.”

A waitress came over and took their order. After she left, Sarah blew out a deep breath. “Thanks for agreeing to meet with me. I wouldn’t have blamed you for refusing.”

Andrea shrugged. “I wanted to hear what you have to say.”

“I appreciate it. I know it’ll surprise you.”

The waitress brought Sarah’s drink over and some bread, and she dug into the basket as if she hadn’t eaten all day. Andrea wasn’t that hungry but she dropped a piece onto a bread plate and picked at it while Sarah chewed.

After a few moments, Sarah brushed her hands off on a napkin and said, “You’re not wearing a wire or anything are you?”

Andrea’s forehead scrunched up. “No. Sarah, if I wanted you to be in jail, I wouldn’t have bailed you out in Florida.”

“I know, I know. I’m sorry. At least those charges were dropped.” She blew out more air and ran her hands through her hair. “They didn’t have enough evidence to prove it was me.”

“Was it you?” Andrea already knew the answer to that question before Sarah shrugged. “Sarah, what involvement did you have with Cam and Jan?”

“Not as much as they think. Not as much as you think. This all started back on the other set, though, Andrea. Cam was infatuated with me back then. I mentioned that I couldn’t stand you—sorry—and he took it upon himself to put those metal shards in your drink. It wasn’t me—it was him.”

Andrea’s eyebrows arched. “You’re kidding?”

“No. Think about it. Why would the production company work so hard to cover up something I did? I was a peon. Still am.”

“No, you’re not,” Andrea said, shaking her head. It was hard for her to believe, but she was starting to accept it. “So… you’re saying Cam hurt me then because he thought that’s what you wanted?”

Sarah nodded. “And he never got over that. He thought he could get me to love him by hiring Jan to kill you. He did call me and talk to me about it before he did it, but I had nothing to do with any of it. I didn’t arrange it or anything. He called me while Jan was holding you under the water and told me you were dead. That’s why I called Case when I did.”

“Cam was your contact on set?”

Sarah nodded. “I know you have no reason to believe me, Andrea, but it’s the truth.”

Andrea thought about what she’d told her. She was going to have to give it all careful thought before she decided whether or not it was the truth. “Why is it so important to you that I believe you?”

“Because… whether either one of us likes it or not, we’re sisters. We may as well learn to live together peacefully. Leslie’s great. We’ve been getting along. You and I can, too, if we start over. But we can never do that if you still think I’ve tried to kill you—twice.”

Sarah was right. Andrea would have to accept her story as the truth if she ever wanted to move on from the bad feelings she’d had for so long. The waitress brought their food, and Andrea decided to mull over what Sarah had said for a while and enjoy her food. “I’ll give it some thought,” she told her half-sister, smiling. “Let’s just let it go for now, okay?”

“Okay,” Sarah said with a nod, and then she tore into her dinner like a famished woman. So much for Case’s description that all of his former girlfriends ate like birds…. Not today.
