Chapter 190 Comedy Show

Thankfully, the next weekend, Case didn’t have a race. It was a holiday weekend, and most of the time, the drivers had those weekends off. So when Andrea had to go to New York City for an interview, she was so happy that Case was able to go with her.

The television program she was going to be on, Late Night with John Samson, put them up in a nice hotel near Rockefeller Center, where the show was taped. The show would be recorded Friday afternoon, and then they’d have the evening to explore the city together.

Andrea loved New York City. She’d rented an apartment there when she’d been filming so many movies in the area, but she’d given it up when she moved back to Los Angeles. Now, being in the city and looking out the window at a beautiful view of Central Park, she wished she could stay there.

Case came up behind her and put his arms around her, looking over her shoulder. “You really do love it here, don’t you?” he asked with a hint of amusement in his voice.

“I do. There’s just something about the pulse of the city that makes me feel so alive. I love all of the historic sites, the old buildings, the museums…. There’s always something to do?”

“All right. What would you like to do tonight, after the show?”

She turned to face him. “Anything you want. I’ve been here so many times, I’ve already done practically everything there is to do at least once. What do you want to do?”

He tipped his head back and thought about it. “I want to take you to dinner at the nicest restaurant. And then I want to see the Empire State Building at night.”

“You want to go up to the top of the building, or view it from the street?” she teased.

“Uh, I think I’d like to go up top,” he said, with a chuckle.

“You’ve got it. It’s always beautiful, but at night, the city is so beautiful.”

“And you can’t see all the garbage on the side of the streets.”

Andrea gave him a playful shove. “You’re so rude.”

“It’s true! There is garbage on the side of the street. And a billion pigeons. People everywhere….”

“Great people—leading exciting lives,” she argued.

He raised an eyebrow, and she could tell he disagreed, but he didn’t say anything more because he knew he’d never change her mind about The Big Apple. “What about tomorrow? What shall we do then?”

“Do you want to go see the Statue of Liberty? And Ellis Island?” she asked.

“Now, that sounds like my kinda day.” He leaned down and kissed her, and Andrea giggled. Any kind of day was her kind of day as long as she was with Case.

Later, Andrea nervously waited in the wings at the Late Show, listening for John to call her name. It had been a while since she’d done a talk show. She remembered the one she’d done back when she and Case had first started dating, how she’d been bombarded with questions she didn’t care to answer. She hoped John wouldn’t ask her anything to make her uncomfortable. He was a funny guys, so she hoped he’d just stick to making people laugh.

She was wearing her engagement ring and expected a question about that. She’d already worked out a silly first response and had cleared it with those involved. When John said, “Please welcome award winning actress, Andrea Sparks,” she blew out a nervous breath and headed out to the stage, waving at the crowd.

John, an older gentlemen with graying hair and glasses, stood to greet her, giving her a hug. She gave him an air kiss on the cheek and had a seat, smoothing down her blue dress as she sat.

John asked her several introductory questions about how she was doing and the award, all of those sorts of things, and then he got to the question she was expecting. Since Andrea hadn’t made a public announcement about her engagement, this would be the first many people had heard of it.

“So, I see a giant ring on your finger there,” John said, gesturing at the ring. “Do you have some news for us?”

“What? This?” Andrea asked, holding her finger up. The crowd cheered. “Oh, this is just… a little token of appreciation someone gave me.”

“Is that what it is?” John asked, playing along with her. “Because it looks a little like an engagement ring.”

“An engagement ring? This?” Andrea asked, overdoing her face so she looked shocked.

“Yeah, yeah. It looks like an engagement ring. Anything you wanna tell us?”

“Okay—you got me,” Andrea said. Everyone in the crowd clapped and then quieted for her news. “I recently got engaged to… Sarah Lockton.”

That got a roar our of everyone, including John. “You don’t say? I’d heard the two of you were getting along better, but I guess I didn’t realize just how well.”

“Yeah, yeah, it’s true.” Andrea couldn’t help but laugh at her own silliness.

“No, it’s not!” John said, waving a hand at her. “You’re not engaged to Sarah Lockton! You’re engaged to Case Meyer!” The crowd cheered even louder now, and Andrea felt her face turning red, she was so happy about their excitement.

“I am engaged to Case Meyer,” she agreed with a confident nod.

“That’s amazing. Congratulations!” John said, and the crowd continued to clap and cheer.

“Thank you,” Andrea said. “He’s an amazing person, and I’m very lucky.”

“You’re both lucky.” John’s smile was genuine, and Andrea had to agree with him. Anyone who found a love as deep as the one she shared with Case was lucky.
