Chapter 32 Finding the One

The man certainly knew how to handle a car! Even in traffic, Case went way faster than necessary, weaving around slower drivers. Andrea never felt in harm’s way, though. In fact, her adrenaline was flowing, her blood pulsing through her veins. She wished she could roll down the window and feel the wind in her hair. A huge smile plastered on her face, she leaned up and enjoyed the ride.

Case was clearly having fun—taking corners too fast, changing lanes with little notice. None of the other drivers seemed irritated though. Andrea was just glad they didn’t get pulled over.

They arrived at a dress shop in one of the ritzier parts of town. Andrea could tell before they even stepped into Gustavo Apiti she wouldn’t have any trouble finding a suitable gown. She’d been worried about that for nothing. It was clear by the mannequins in the window this place was used to dressing socialites and the like. They’d have something suitable for Andrea to wear to the ball.

Case opened her door and then offered his arm. Andrea couldn’t help but keep her head up walking into such a nice place. Immediately, Case was recognized, and then so was she, as the associates scrambled to be of assistance.

“I’m Genevieve,” a tall, thin woman with dark hair said, stepping between the others. “I run the store. It would be my honor to help you select an elegant gown for your affair.” Her accent was decidedly French, thick and romantic, and Andrea could’ve listened to her speak all day.

“Wonderful,” the actress said. “I want something eye catching, but also something I can move around in. I love to dance, so it can’t be too restrictive.”

“We have several dresses you will love,” Genevieve assured her. “Mr. Meyer, if you’d like to have a seat in our private lounge, Ms. Sparks can show you each gown and get your opinion.”

Case raised an eyebrow and gave Andrea a devilish grin. “My own private fashion show from the most beautiful woman in the world? Now, who could pass that up?”

She couldn’t help but giggle and give him a playful swat. The more charming he was, the harder it was for her to remember she was having trust issues. It didn’t hurt that he looked so delicious in a bright blue shirt that made his green eyes twinkle.

Andrea followed Genevieve to the back of the store and a private area where they wouldn’t be disturbed. Relaxing music played softly in the background. A plush red couch sat across from the dressing room and a full-length mirror. The setup was perfect, and Andrea was excited to see what Genevieve brought her.

The first gown was long and blue with a plunging neckline. Case made no attempt to hide that he liked it very much, but Andrea thought the skirt was too tight and restrictive. The next was red with a flowing skirt but the back was lace, and Andrea didn’t like that. One after another, Genevieve brought her gorgeous gown to try on. Andrea liked several of them, but when she put on a long black gown with a fitted, satin top and a flowing skirt, she knew this was the one. Not only was the skirt flirty and bouncy, the top showed off her assets in the best possible way.

“This is the one!” she said to Case before she even pulled open the curtain.

“Are you sure? I really liked the last one. Well, and the one before that.”

“You really liked all of them.” She laughed and shook her head at him, even though he still couldn’t see her.

“That’s because you’re wearing them.”

Andrea stuck her head out of the dressing room and arched an eyebrow at him. He shrugged innocently.

Sweeping the curtain out of the way, Andrea stepped out, and Case’s mouth dropped open. She smiled at him seductively, wanting to see him drool. It was working. He looked as if he couldn’t form a sentence if his life depended on it.

Laughing, she spun around a few times and then stepped in front of the mirror. It looked just as great out here as it had in the little dressing room. “Yep, that’s definitely the one,” Case agreed.

She turned her head and looked at him over his shoulder. His eyes were still wide, and he looked as if he could hardly control himself. She turned back to her reflection. New earrings were in order, and a new pair of heels with a matching handbag, but yes, this was definitely the one.

Maybe the man sitting on the couch behind her was also the one. She hadn’t quite figured that out yet, but she was fairly certain his reaction was genuine, which she found confusing. Was he working with Sarah or not? Andrea still wasn’t sure, but she would have a lot of fun trying to figure it out.
