Chapter 225 Meant To Be
Following Andrea up to her bedroom, Case ran his hand through his hair. He felt such an idiot! Why had he overreacted when he’d seen Andrea with Malcolm? It was obvious to him now that her friend wasn’t interested in her romantically, although Case wouldn’t have guessed Malcolm had a boyfriend. Still, he’d been way off, and he’d overreacted.
Andrea walked into her room and sat down on a chair in the little seating area of her bedroom. Case followed suite and sat down next to her. She drew in a deep breath and said, “I’m sorry you heard that. We were just joking around. I can imagine, from your perspective, it must’ve been horrifying, and I’m sorry you thought you were witnessing me trying to get Malcolm to help me cheat on you.”
Case shook his head. “No, Andrea, I should’ve known better. I should’ve realized you were joking around, that you would never cheat on me. I’ve been acting silly ever since I met Malcolm. It’s just… the two of you get along so well together. I have never seen you be that chummy with another guy before, and it hit me. I know it’s stupid….”
She was smiling at him. “Malcolm and I have been friends for years. That’s all.”
“I know. I get that now.” If he kept running his hand through his hair, he was going to be bald. “I feel like a real… dumba*s.”
Andrea giggled. “Yeah, you probably should. If that’s what’s been bothering you, why didn’t you just say something?”
“Like what? ‘Hey, Andrea, I don’t like the way you’re hanging out with Malcolm. Are you planning on trying to hook up with him behind my back lately?’”
Again, she was laughing. “Well, I definitely would’ve given you an irrefutable answer. You could’ve just told me you know it’s silly but you were jealous. I would’ve probably been flattered. Now, I just feel like you didn’t trust me.”
“I know, and it’s so stupid. I’ve been telling myself this whole time that you’ve had every opportunity in the world to cheat if you wanted to, with some really hot, famous guys. So why would you cheat with an old boyfriend?”
“Exactly,” Andrea said with a shrug. “I wouldn’t.”
“Andrea,” Case said, leaning forward and taking her hand. “I am so sorry. I’m sorry I didn’t trust you, I’m sorry I wouldn’t listen to you, and I’m sorry that Grandpa Jack had to go to such lengths to get me to stop.”
“I’m sorry Grandpa went to all that trouble, too,” Andrea admitted. She scooted forward onto the edge of her chair. “What can I do to make you know for sure that I’m never going to cheat on you, Case?”
“I know you’re not, Andrea…. I just don’t want to wait anymore. I want to marry you.”
“We are getting married.” She held up her hand that had the ring on it. “Remember?”
“Yes, I know that. But I mean I want to marry you now. I know you want to wait until next Christmas and have a big wedding, and we can still do that, but what if we get married now? What if we have a tiny wedding and only tell your family? Grab that preacher from last night, and get him to perform the ceremony?”
Andrea stared at him with her mouth hanging open for a long time. “Are you serious?”
“I know it sounds crazy—”
“No, it doesn’t sound crazy,” she interrupted. “It sounds—great.”
“Yeah?” He couldn’t believe she was agreeing with him.
“Yeah. Why not? Like you said, we can still have the big wedding, later when we’ve got everything together. But why not go ahead and get married now?”
Case couldn’t control the smile that came over his face. “Well, okay then. Let’s get married.”
“All right. Let’s do. But… I’m not sure how my mom’s going to take it. We’ll have to make sure she understands that we’ll still have the big wedding she’s been planning next year. Or else—she’ll flip out.”
“We’ve had enough flipping out for one day,” Case said with his hands out in front of him.
Laughing, Andrea leaned toward him. “I love you, Case.”
“I love you, too.” He kissed her then, leaving no doubt in either of their minds that they were meant to be together.
