Chapter 103
While Agnes was picking, Leopold told the servant, "Just put everything in Mrs. Neville's wardrobe."
"Hold on!" Agnes quickly grabbed one of the outfits. "I need to try them on first. My figure's pretty average, and I want to make sure they fit!"
Leopold changed his mind and dragged her upstairs. "If I let you choose, it'll take forever. It's too much hassle. Just bring all the clothes upstairs."
"That's not okay! It's such a waste to just stash these beautiful clothes in the wardrobe without wearing them!" Agnes protested.
"I'll keep that in mind next time," Leopold said, promising to cut down on the number of clothes being sent. But in the days that followed, Agnes noticed that the clothes from the store not only didn't decrease but actually increased.
One day, the maid saw Agnes about to toss a down jacket into the washing machine and quickly took it out, distressed. "Mrs. Neville, this down jacket is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. You can't just throw it in the washing machine!"
"Hundreds of thousands of dollars? For a down jacket?" Agnes stood there, stunned, watching the maid call the dry cleaner with the jacket in her arms. She was genuinely surprised. Leopold was indeed generous!
The lives of the rich were really something else.
In the following days, Agnes took advantage of Leopold's busy schedule to sneak off to the bar and perform a few more times. Now, she had almost saved enough money!
She avoided Leopold and went alone to Sunrise International Shopping Mall, bought some of her favorite items, and then wandered around. She happened to glance at a lingerie store, her eyes lit up, and she stepped inside.
Twenty minutes later, Agnes left the mall with shopping bags in hand.
Halfway home, Agnes got a call from Kelly. "Agnes, have you heard? Lydia is attending a business banquet tomorrow night. Do you know who her date is?"
"No idea," Agnes replied, uninterested. If Lydia wasn't getting involved with Leopold, she couldn't care less about her whereabouts.
Kelly sighed. "I figured you wouldn't know. Lydia announced that Leopold is accompanying her!"
"Leopold?" Agnes felt a pang of discomfort at the thought of Lydia clinging to her husband, Leopold.
"Yeah, everyone in the circle knows Lydia is favored by the four young masters of Lumina City, especially Leopold and Clifford. Those who aren't in the loop might think Lydia will become Mrs. Neville or Mrs. Hayes sooner or later! I just heard it from some friends; everyone is talking about it. They're all trying to curry favor with Lydia. I'm telling you, tomorrow's banquet is not just a simple business event; it's a competition among women!"
"What kind of competition?" Agnes was puzzled.
"A competition of dates, of course! The people at tomorrow's banquet are all rich or noble. If Leopold shows up with Lydia, by the next day, everyone in Lumina City will think Lydia is destined to become Mrs. Neville! So I'm telling you this because I hope you'll definitely attend the banquet tomorrow and stay by Leopold's side. Are you really going to let Lydia have this chance?"
Of course not! What woman would be okay with someone else always being by her husband's side?
"Agnes, don't be naive. Honestly, Ethan told me you and Leopold argued about this, right? Lydia just loves to stir up trouble! Don't let her get the better of you this time, okay? Take the initiative. I believe in you! If Leopold asks how you know, just say I told you. We've been friends for years; he won't blame me," Kelly continued.
Agnes was always confused by Kelly's words, and this time was no exception. "Let me think about it. You spoke too fast. I need to digest it!"
"Okay, take your time. Call me if you need help figuring it out!" Kelly said.
"Okay. Kelly, I do have a question. Why is Mr. Perez so good to me? Don't get me wrong. I know he loves you. I mean, he's good to me like an elder to a junior." Ethan treating her as well as Kelly did really puzzled her.
On the other end of the phone, Kelly chuckled. "No need to explain. I get it. I know very well how much Ethan loves me! I also know why he's good to you, but it's better if he explains it himself."
"I've asked him twice, and he just won't say! It makes me feel very insecure," Agnes admitted, troubled.
"If he doesn't tell you, maybe the time isn't right. He has a lot to consider. Anyway, he doesn't dislike you and won't harm you, so what are you worried about? Don't stress about Ethan. Focus on tomorrow's banquet, got it?" Kelly comforted her.
"Alright!" Agnes nodded.
Returning to the villa at night, Leopold came back early and took Agnes to the study for tutoring. As she watched him explain the material with such focus, she wanted to ask about the banquet tomorrow night several times but ultimately held back.
An hour and a half later, Leopold closed the book. "That's it for today. You look like you have something to ask me?"
After hesitating for a moment, she finally spoke, "Do you have time tomorrow night?"
"Tomorrow night I have a banquet to attend. Is there something you need?" Leopold embraced her, greedily inhaling her scent.
So he did have a banquet. "Nothing."
Her vague response left Leopold puzzled, "Do you have plans?"
"No, just asking." She hadn't figured out the next step yet.
Since she didn't want to say, Leopold didn't press further. After a moment, his voice slightly hoarse, he asked, "Is your period over?"
