Chapter 13
Could it be that Agnes and Ethan are tight?
Word on the street is Agnes has some serious connections. Maybe the Perez family's got her back?
Or is Agnes so well-connected that even Ethan's scared to mess with her?
Ethan got up from his seat, pulled out a printed list, and said, "Checked the classroom footage. Samuel and Terry started it, so you're getting a public criticism. The list's going up on the bulletin board later. Justin, you and the others who showed up but didn't get to throw punches, hit the field and run ten laps. Jeremy, you didn't do anything, but you were there, so you're supervising and reporting back to me when they're done."
He didn't look like he was gonna say anything else.
Samuel couldn't hold back, "Mr. Perez, this isn't fair! Agnes and Justin beat us up pretty bad, especially Agnes. Shouldn't she get punished too?"
If his family hadn't warned him about who not to mess with in Lumina City, Samuel might've already flipped Ethan's desk.
Agnes was also confused by Ethan's actions, trying to figure out what he was up to.
Ethan glanced at the group, "You all can go. Agnes, stay."
After Samuel and the others left, only Justin and a few others stayed put.
Agnes hadn't left yet, and Justin was worried Ethan might give her a hard time. Thinking of this, Justin stepped in front of Agnes protectively, "Mr. Perez, Agnes hadn't been gonna get involved. I asked her to join the fight. Punish me instead!"
Ethan's lips twitched as he looked at Justin, "I've heard you and Agnes are close, and it seems true."
Justin nodded proudly, "Of course, we've been tight for years. Our bond is something you wouldn't get!"
Justin had known Agnes the longest, about six or seven years, followed by Bella, Clara, and finally Jeremy.
Ethan already knew all this. He'd done his homework on everyone around Agnes. "I'm not gonna give her a hard time. I just have some questions for her. You all can go now."
Justin had one foot out the door but kept looking back suspiciously. He couldn't remember how Agnes and Ethan knew each other, and Agnes had never mentioned Ethan.
Before this, Agnes didn't really know Ethan. If he wasn't the principal, they'd be strangers.
Once everyone left, Agnes couldn't wait to speak, "Are you saying you're the one who told Leopold about that thing?"
She couldn't think of any other reason why Ethan would keep her behind.
Without answering, Ethan put down the list and pointed to the sofa, "Sit."
Agnes had no choice but to sit, confused, as she watched Ethan pour her a cup of water and hand it to her.
She stood up, took the cup, placed it on the table, and said, frustrated, "Mr. Perez, if you've got something to say, just say it. You're making me anxious!"
She'd messed up at school before, and each time she had to be punished by Dean of Students Lola Rivera. For someone with bad grades like her, both Lola and the teachers wished they could expel her.
But no one had ever been as gentle as Ethan, so Agnes felt super uneasy.
Ethan grinned at her, "Yeah, I heard about your confession to Leopold, but it wasn't me who spilled the beans. He's got his secretary digging into who played that video at the press conference."
Agnes was puzzled.
Sensing her confusion, Ethan didn't bother explaining. She'd get it once she checked online later. He had other stuff to talk about, "Leopold asked me to find a reason to kick you out of school. Did you know him before?"
This whole thing had just gone down a few minutes ago when he got a call from Leopold while watching the live stream.
This meant Leopold knew about Agnes and had known for a while.
"I've met Leopold a few times, Mr. Perez. But trust me, my relationship with him is not a good one!" Although Agnes had a ton of questions, she answered honestly.
Hearing her say it wasn't a good relationship, Ethan got it. Knowing Agnes, she probably butted heads with Leopold.
He sat down across from her and spoke seriously, "Go back and focus on your studies. I'll handle Leopold. Don't worry about it. In the future, steer clear of him, and don't catch feelings. If you already have, drop them fast. He's not someone you can afford to mess with, got it?"
Agnes walked out of the principal's office, staring blankly at the garden. Did Ethan know her before? Why was he being so nice?
And she could tell his kindness was like an elder looking out for a younger person, no strings attached.
Back in the classroom, Agnes saw a message on Justin's phone and finally pieced it all together.
Agnes thought to herself, 'Grace, my dear cousin, if I ever go soft on you again, I won't be a Tudor!'
In the CEO's office, Leopold stubbed out his cigarette, signed his name at the bottom of the document, closed it, and asked Dennis without looking up, "How's the investigation going?"
Dennis answered straight, "The VP just called. His USB drive got hacked when he plugged it into the computer, and that video was forced onto his drive. We haven't ID'd the hacker yet."
A hacker? Leopold's lips curled into a cold smirk. It was probably a stunt pulled by Agnes herself!
Leopold irritably tossed the pen aside, "You can go now."
"Yes, by the way, Mr. Neville, tomorrow night is the Perez Group's anniversary gala. You planning to go?" Dennis asked.
"I'll make time," Leopold said.
"And your date?" Dennis asked.
Leopold didn't want to deal with that. Any woman would do, so he casually mentioned someone, "Mr. Garcia's granddaughter." He didn't remember her name.
"Ella," Dennis reminded him.
"Yeah, she will be my date," Leopold said.
"Alright, Mr. Neville," Dennis said.
After Dennis left, Leopold's phone buzzed with a text. He didn't want to check it, but it was on his personal phone from an unknown number: [Hello, Mr. Neville. I am your wife, whom you've never met. Could you please take half a minute out of your busy schedule to sign the divorce papers? Thanks a lot!]
Leopold thought for a few seconds and replied: [Let's discuss it in person tomorrow.]
