Chapter 173
Agnes was usually cheerful, but she felt uneasy whenever she saw Lydia. As long as she didn't run into her, these messy things wouldn't bother her.
Unexpectedly, Bella's comment on social media went viral, with the number of likes soaring to the top three in the comment section.
Some netizens agreed with Bella's statement. Previously, when Leopold was seen coming out of a hotel with Agnes and was asked if the rumors were true about him and Lydia, Leopold simply denied it by saying, "Lydia is my niece."
Although he denied it, it was clear to everyone that it wasn't that simple. This time, Bella's comment sparked an even bigger discussion, and the social media accounts of the people involved were bombarded by fans and netizens.
Bella then realized that her casual comment had caused such a big stir and hurriedly tried to retract it, but she was already too late. Many self-media accounts had taken screenshots and posted them, and many people were privately messaging her to ask about her relationship with the Neville Family.
Her comment, due to the large number of likes, caught the attention of the PR department of ZL Group. Whenever Leopold made the news, Kevin had to handle it personally, given his high popularity. After seeing the comment, Kevin felt something was off and quickly investigated the ID, only to find out it was Bella who posted it.
Lydia's Twitter was filled with doubts, questioning what she was doing by Leopold's side. Were they really just an uncle-niece relationship, or did Lydia want to be a homewrecker?
The next morning, when Leopold came downstairs after getting ready, Agnes had just gone to sleep not long ago. Besides Elliot and Agnes, the rest of the Nevilles were having breakfast.
Tiffany glanced behind him and then looked upstairs. "Where's Agnes?"
Leopold sat down slowly. "Jet lag."
Gerald dropped his fork. "Why doesn't Lydia need to adjust to the time difference? She's just being pretentious!"
Lydia, sitting across with an unpleasant expression, stammered, "I... I didn't sleep last night."
Tiffany asked with concern, "Why didn't you sleep? Aren't you used to Beacon City time?"
Lydia glanced at Leopold, just as he looked up at her, a hint of pity in his eyes. She explained with red-rimmed eyes, "I cried."
Leopold asked indifferently, "Why did you cry?"
Everyone turned their attention to Lydia. Teresa, seeing Lydia's aggrieved look, couldn't bear it and quickly handed her a tissue. "Lydia, what's wrong?"
Lydia was usually cheerful and lively, and the Nevilles rarely saw her cry. Her sudden crying made everyone a bit worried. Only Jocelyn continued eating breakfast, seemingly indifferent.
"I was cyberbullied last night." Lydia's tears kept falling, and she finally put down her fork, covering her mouth with a tissue and sobbing softly.
Tiffany anxiously asked, "What happened?"
Lydia wiped her tears and steadied her emotions. "I'm sorry, Grandma, Mr. Neville, Mrs. Neville, I lost my composure. Let's eat first!"
Leopold frowned but said nothing and continued eating.
After breakfast, Teresa pulled Leopold aside, "Lydia cried last night and again this morning. You should have someone look into it. If she really was cyberbullied, handle it quickly."
Leopold already understood what was going on when Lydia mentioned cyberbullying. News had reported last night about him taking Agnes to Beacon City, and he knew what was happening.
"I got it." He glanced at the elders comforting Lydia and went upstairs alone.
"Leopold!" Lydia called out to him, choking up.
Leopold stopped and turned to look at her.
Lydia stood up, tears still in her eyes. "Leopold, I know Bella is Agnes' good friend. If it's difficult for you, just pretend you don't know. I don't want you two to argue because of me."
Leopold nodded. "Take good care of Grandma."
Then he went upstairs.
Tiffany, knowing it was related to Agnes, asked, "Tell me what's going on?"
"Grandma, it's my fault for not coming to Beacon City earlier to accompany you. When I flew with Leopold and Agnes, we were photographed, and Agnes' friend misunderstood that I was trying to ruin their relationship, but I wasn't." Lydia's tears kept falling.
Tiffany comforted her, "Good girl, don't cry. I believe you. Haven't you always been with Leopold? Don't worry about this; I won't let you be wronged!"
Gerald snorted, "I knew Agnes wasn't a good person, and her friends either."
Today was New Year's Eve, and the Nevilles were on holiday at home. After breakfast, everyone moved to the living room to chat, but seeing this scene, no one dared to say much.
Lydia anxiously explained, "Mr. Neville, it's not like that. Agnes is actually very nice. What her friend did has nothing to do with her."
Gerald waved his hand. "You don't need to defend her. Agnes doesn't respect us elders and isn't suitable for Leopold."
Jocelyn, having changed her clothes, came downstairs and coldly interjected, "It doesn't matter if you oppose it; they're already married."
Gerald was left speechless.
Leopold returned to the bedroom, gently kissed the still-sleeping Agnes on the forehead, then went into the adjoining study and called Kevin, "Delete all negative comments about Lydia."
Kevin helplessly replied, "Do you know where I am?"
