Chapter 98

"I know it's you. Got your number saved!" Agnes answered the call, sprawled out on her desk, bored out of her mind.

"What's up with Mr. Neville today? Did someone tick him off? Got any ideas?" The secretary on the other end sounded like she’d just been chewed out and left the conference room in shambles.

Agnes blinked, "What's his deal?"

"Who knows? Someone must've really gotten under Mr. Neville's skin. From the VP to the junior secretary, everyone got an earful! I guess we're next, Mrs. Neville. Can you help us out?" Kevin's voice was dripping with desperation.

Agnes paused, 'Is he mad because of me?'

She wasn't sure, "Calling me won't help. He doesn't listen to me."

Kevin retorted, "How could he not listen? If he didn't, would he have called me back from the construction site? Mrs. Neville, please, just sweet-talk Mr. Neville a bit, I'm begging you."

Agnes stayed quiet.

Kevin, gathering some unknown courage, changed his tone, "Mrs. Neville, could it be that Mr. Neville's needs aren't being met?"

Just then, Agnes heard a roar from the other end, "Kevin, get your ass in here!"

Kevin, in a panic, forgot to hang up and rushed into the conference room, standing stiffly beside Leopold, "Mr. Neville!"

Leopold, with sharp eyes, noticed his phone screen was still on, "Who were you calling during the meeting?"

Kevin tried to hide the phone behind his back, but it was too late.

The more he tried to dodge, the guiltier he looked. Leopold, with a stern face, snatched the phone, and when he saw the contact name, his expression softened a bit.

Leopold glanced sideways at the sweating Kevin and then put the phone to his ear. "What do you want?"

That brief sentence caught the attention of all the executives, who had their heads down. Leopold's tone was unexpectedly gentle!

"I'm fine. I'm out shopping and saw a really good book. Do you want it?" Agnes said.

There was a moment of silence on the other end. Agnes wiped her cold sweat, unable to think of anything else to say as she only had a book in front of her.

"Are you apologizing to me?" Leopold said.

"Goodbye!" Agnes was about to hang up.

"Try hanging up, I dare you!" Leopold suddenly stood up, coldly sweeping his gaze over the bowed heads of the management, "Meeting adjourned!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Leopold left with Kevin's phone.

Once Leopold was out of sight, the conference room erupted in shock. Everyone surrounded Kevin, bombarding him with questions, "Who were you calling?"

"Kevin, who was it that made Mr. Neville change his attitude so quickly?"

"Kevin, you're our savior! If Mr. Neville keeps scolding us, I might just jump off a building!"

Kevin cleared his throat, "This is Mr. Neville's private matter, not for me to disclose. I'll be going now."

Back in the CEO's office, Leopold remembered he had Kevin's phone, "Call me back on my phone."

The call was then abruptly ended.

Agnes was silent. She was still angry!

Just as she was hesitating whether to call Leopold, she received a message from Kevin: [Mrs. Neville, why is Mr. Neville angry again?]

Agnes quickly dialed Leopold's number, "Leopold, why are you so mad?"

Leopold sneered, "Why am I mad? Maybe you should ask yourself that."

What had she done to make Leopold so furious?

There was a moment of silence on the other end, then Leopold asked, "Don't you have anything to say to me?"

"Yeah," she said.

"Spit it out," Leopold demanded.

"Can I stay in the dorm tonight?" she asked.

"No," he snapped.

"Then I got nothing to say," she replied.

Leopold was ticked off again, "I'll come pick you up tonight."

"Not necessary," she shot back.

Leopold gritted his teeth, "Don't push me."

"I have class now, bye!" she said.

This time, she really hung up.

"Kevin, get in here!" Leopold shouted.

Kevin, in the secretary's area, shivered. Wasn't Leopold fine just now? Why was he mad again?

For the rest of the day, Leopold kept piling tasks on Kevin.

That night, Agnes really stayed in the dorm.

She sang at a bar until late and had Justin call the dorm supervisor to let her in.

The next morning, her period suddenly started.

Even worse, since Leopold had forbidden her from staying in the dorm, she didn't have any spare clothes there.

She had to squeeze onto a bus to get back to the villa, dismissing the idea of calling a cab as her stained, light-colored pants were not suitable for public display.

After a shaky bus ride and another ten minutes of walking, Agnes finally saw the outline of the Tranquil Haven Estates gate.

Feeling increasingly uncomfortable, Agnes quickened her pace, almost running home to avoid being seen in her disheveled state.

Pushing open the villa door, she quickly changed her shoes and darted into the living room. The house was quiet, with only Eden's busy figure faintly visible in the kitchen.

Unexpectedly, steady footsteps came from the staircase, and Agnes ran into Leopold, who was coming down for breakfast.

Agnes chose to ignore him and rushed upstairs.

"Stop!" he commanded coldly.

She paused, feeling the awkwardness surge again. She didn't respond and continued to run upstairs.

But a force from behind grabbed her arm tightly, "What happened to you?" His cold voice carried a hint of concern.

Agnes turned back in confusion, just in time to see where his gaze had landed.

Realizing he had figured it out, her cheeks flushed, "Let go! It's none of your business!"

He didn't let go, instead asking, "Where are you hurt? Why is this happening?"

"I'm not hurt," she replied.

He gently lifted her, and with a gasp, she fell into his solid embrace, "We're going to the hospital right now!"

What a troublesome Agnes, getting hurt and still trying to hide upstairs!

"It's not that, let me explain." Agnes was on the verge of breaking down.

Leopold ignored her, carrying her towards the door. As he changed his shoes, Agnes, her face burning, shouted the truth, "I'm not hurt; I just got my period!"

Leopold's action of opening the door came to an abrupt halt. So, the blood on her was menstrual blood.
