Chapter 26
When John found out Agnes had applied to the School of Economics and Management, he got super excited. Finally, another shot at being in the same school, maybe even the same class as her.
Back in college, they didn't share any classes during their freshman and sophomore years. But junior year, when classes got shuffled around, they ended up in the same class again. It felt like fate, or maybe just some good luck, was on his side.
Although Agnes was not good at her studies, she was excellent in other ways. John never spoke to her because he didn't think he was good enough to confess his love to her; he wanted to wait until he had some success.
Half an hour later, at Tranquil Haven Estates.
As soon as the taxi pulled up to the entrance, the security guard stopped it. But when he saw Agnes sleeping in the back seat, he let them through.
"Agnes, which building is yours?" John shook the still-sleeping Agnes.
After a bit, Agnes mumbled a number. He asked the taxi driver to wait and then carried Agnes towards the villa.
Even though it was nighttime, you could still tell the villa area was super fancy and high-end.
He looked down at Agnes in his arms. What kind of background did she have to live in a place like this, something most people couldn't afford even after a lifetime of work?
There were lots of rumors about her at school, but he didn't buy any of them. He didn't believe someone was keeping Agnes or that she was a lesbian. All just baseless gossip!
As he got to the villa she mentioned, he was about to ring the doorbell when a sleek luxury car, hazard lights flashing, pulled up.
A handsome guy in a white shirt, Leopold, got out and gave John a cold look.
Who was this cold, noble-looking guy? What was his deal with Agnes?
John carefully watched Leopold, who was about to enter the villa. He felt like he'd seen this guy somewhere before but couldn't place it.
Seeing Leopold about to go in, he quickly called out, "Hey!" Leopold turned around, looking at John indifferently.
"Hey, who are you to Agnes?" John asked politely, thinking this guy might be her brother.
Leopold then noticed the girl in John's arms and realized it was Agnes.
"What happened to her?" He strode over, and John immediately felt an intimidating vibe from him.
Assuming he was Agnes's brother, John handed her over. "She got drunk at a classmate's birthday party." John watched as Leopold took Agnes.
The strong smell of alcohol hit his nose.
Leopold frowned and glanced at John. "Are you her classmate?"
John nodded and smiled, "Yes, sir. I'll be heading out now."
Leopold raised an eyebrow, nodded, and carried Agnes into the villa.
As soon as Leopold got inside, Agnes started to fidget, her face flushed as she struggled. With a slightly dark expression, Leopold thought about just tossing her on the sofa but decided to carry her upstairs instead.
He opened Agnes's room, which was all done up in sky blue. The round bed, dressing table, wardrobe, and desk were all sky blue. After putting her on the bed, Leopold had no intention of dealing with the drunk girl any further.
Just as he turned to leave, a small hand grabbed his.
"Water, I'm so thirsty," Agnes mumbled, writhing on the bed.
He glanced at the small hand holding his, then let go and walked out.
When he came back, Agnes had somehow ended up on the floor, curled up on the carpet beside the bed.
She kept muttering, "Water, water, water." He frowned, placed the glass of water on the bedside table, and picked her up from the floor.
How could a student drink this much? It looked like his decision to discipline her was absolutely right!
Agnes clung to his neck, pressing tightly against him. His breathing hitched for a moment, but he gently placed her back on the bed.
Lying there, Agnes didn't let go. Instead, she pulled Leopold toward with a strong tug.
Leopold's face darkened as he looked at the closed-eyed Agnes with her long eyelashes and rosy lips.
Agnes tried to sit up again. But this time, instead of sitting up, she pulled the somewhat dazed Leopold closer.
Without warning, their lips pressed together.
An inexplicable atmosphere filled the room, and the fragrance from Agnes's body overpowered the smell of alcohol. His eyes darkened, and he suddenly remembered the taste of their previous kiss.
Back then, he hesitated because she was just some unrelated person. But now, she was his wife, and kissing her felt right. With that thought, he lowered his head and sealed her lips.
However, just as Leopold was getting into it, the motionless Agnes beneath him had fallen asleep.
Taking a deep breath, Leopold's face turned livid. This damn Agnes must have done it on purpose!
The next day was Saturday, and there were no classes. Agnes slept until noon, only waking up because her phone was ringing. Groggily, she rubbed her aching temple as the phone continued to ring.
"Hello." She fumbled for her phone in her backpack, answering the call without looking.
Justin's voice came from the other end, "Agnes, you're still not up? It's twelve o'clock!"
He wondered if he should hang up, knowing Agnes had a bad temper when she woke up.
Twelve o'clock? "Oh! It's so early, I'll sleep a bit more." She still wasn't fully awake.
Justin was speechless, "Agnes, it's twelve noon. Are you sure it's early?"
Agnes squinted at the bright sun outside the window.
Wait! She seemed to have gotten drunk last night. How did she get back? "How did I get back last night?" Thinking of this, she became more alert. After confirming she was in her own room, she breathed a sigh of relief.
"John sent you back! He said he ran into your brother and handed you over to him! Agnes, since when did you have a brother? How come I didn't know?" Justin said.
Her brother? Where did she get a brother? She didn't even know herself! Wait! Could it be Leopold?
Thinking of this possibility, Agnes suddenly sat up. Did Leopold know she was drunk? Did that rogue take advantage of her?
She quickly lifted the thin blanket to check herself. Fortunately, she was still wearing the same clothes as yesterday.
"Agnes? Agnes? Why aren't you saying anything?" Justin looked at the connected call. Had Agnes fallen asleep again?
