Chapter 28

Agnes didn't want to make things harder, so she nodded and said, "It's cool. Which floor is he on? I'll go up myself." Her tone softened, making Danielle feel a bit more at ease.

But Danielle quickly shook her head, "I'll take you up. Mr. Neville instructed me to." She knew better than to disobey Leopold's orders.

Agnes glanced at Danielle, who looked a bit scared, guessing she was probably afraid of Leopold too.

Honestly, with someone as intense as Leopold, who wouldn't be?

She thought about herself and Justin, who normally feared nothing but became timid and compliant whenever Leopold was around.

She nodded and followed Danielle into the elevator, which finally stopped on the 66th floor.

The whole 66th floor was huge and super quiet. Near the CEO's office was a small area with a few desks and a sign that said "CEO's Secretary Area."

Five people were sitting there, but there were six desks, meaning Leopold had six secretaries! Agnes's jaw dropped. But then she thought, with such a big company, if he didn't have that many secretaries, Leopold would probably be dead tired.

A male secretary with glasses, Dennis Carter, saw Danielle and stood up to greet her, "Who's this?"

Dennis looked like he was in his late 20s, with the vibe of a top student. His friendly look at Agnes made her feel at ease.

Danielle glanced awkwardly at Agnes and said respectfully, "Dennis, this important guest is here to see Mr. Neville!"

Agnes gave him a small smile, which made Dennis pause for a second. But he quickly got back to his professional self, "Hello, please follow me!" He gestured politely, leading her to the CEO's office door.

Dennis knocked, and a deep voice from inside said, "Come in!"

The voice had a cold edge; it was Leopold. Agnes tightened her grip on the lunchbox, starting to feel nervous.

Would Leopold be mad to see her? Would he sign the divorce papers?

Lost in her thoughts, she walked into Leopold's office.

The office was massive, at least 2,500 square feet, decorated in black, white, and gray.

It was spotless, with a high-tech desk, a wine rack, a bookshelf, a water dispenser, white sofas, and a glass conference table.

To the far west was an indoor golf course, with some celebrity calligraphy and paintings on the walls. To the far east, there was another door, probably the CEO's private lounge.

As Leopold worked, a flicker of emotion crossed his eyes when he saw Agnes at the door.

He put down his pen and said nothing, watching Agnes curiously as she looked around.

Feeling his gaze, Agnes snapped back to reality, took a few steps forward on the soft carpet, and steadied herself before speaking cautiously, "Leopold, I mean, Mr. Neville, sorry to bother you. I made some food for you to try."

Leopold raised an eyebrow. Stubborn as she was, would she really apologize? Could he suspect she had some hidden agenda?

And she made the food? He remembered telling Robert to treat her like a princess and not let her do any housework.

She could cook? Robert never mentioned that.

Leopold's silence made Agnes anxious. What did his silence mean?

Was he mad that she came here?

Thinking of this, Agnes felt a bit embarrassed but still opened the lunchbox, "Well, you eat, and I'll leave."

A few blackened dishes appeared, and Leopold immediately frowned.

A faint burnt smell lingered in the air. Was this even food?

What did his frown mean? Was it because the food looked terrible?

She quickly explained, "I know it doesn't look great, but it tastes pretty good. Eden tried it, and you should too." Eden had told her it tasted okay, but she hadn't tried it for herself yet.

Agnes handed him the utensils, unknowingly showing an expectant expression.

Seeing the anticipation on her face, Leopold hesitated but took the utensils.

Agnes, seeing him take the utensils, happily introduced the dishes. "This is roasted carrots, this is... why is it so black? It seems to be roasted chicken!" She looked at the blackened dish and awkwardly smiled at Leopold.

"This should be stewed meat; why did it turn black too," she muttered softly.

Looking at the dishes in the lunchbox, Leopold had no appetite at all. There was no way he was eating this!

"This one, I know, this is roasted pork ribs; it didn't change color," she said.

Leopold hesitated with the fork in his hand, and Agnes enthusiastically continued, "Leopold, this is my first time cooking. I'm here to apologize for last night..."

She lowered her head, and at this point, Leopold's eyes deepened. But her next words made him inexplicably relieved.

"I was so drunk last night, lost consciousness. I won't go against you anymore, Mr. Neville; please don't be mad, okay?" Finally, Agnes looked at the always silent Leopold with big eyes, pretending to be very expectant.

He unconsciously nodded, and Agnes's eyes immediately filled with joy and happiness. Inexplicably, seeing her happy improved his mood.

"Then try the food I made!" She shifted the topic back to the food.

Leopold, not wanting to disappoint her, reluctantly picked up a piece of what she called roasted pork ribs with his fork.

But Agnes pressed down on his fork, "This needs to be coated with barbecue sauce and baked again. You should eat something else first!"

Leopold's face darkened, but he had to put down the roasted pork ribs and pick up a piece of what she called roasted chicken. He slowly put it into his mouth and chewed a few times.

Suddenly, his face changed dramatically, and he couldn't help but spit it into the nearby trash can.

Was this roasted chicken? It was not only bitter and salty but also had a strange taste!

After spitting it out, he quickly grabbed the water nearby and drank it in large gulps.

This scene dumbfounded Agnes, "Is it not good?"

Looking at her innocent eyes, Leopold still coldly said, "Are you here to apologize or to provoke me?" As he expected, how could the stubborn Agnes easily bow her head?
