Chapter 91
Agnes suddenly got it. "Wait, she's pulling this off, and those four guys have no clue?" These dudes were the heirs to the richest families in Lumina City. If they couldn't see through this, how were they gonna run their empires?
Kelly just shrugged, looking kinda helpless. "Those four aren't exactly the sharpest tools in the shed. They don't get how a woman's mind works. To them, Lydia's just this sweet, innocent girl. They'd never think she's up to no good. They think Lydia's all sunshine and rainbows."
If Kelly was right, Lydia was seriously scary. "I really don't get what her deal is," Agnes said.
"Who knows? If you think she likes Clifford, she keeps her distance. If you think she likes Leopold, she doesn't make a move. Leroy? Ethan? They're old enough to be her dad, so that's a no-go!" Kelly said.
Agnes felt drained, especially from trying to figure out other people's minds.
"It's not the best time to talk more. Let's catch up another day. And think about what I said. Don't bring this up in front of them, or those self-absorbed guys might think we're out to get their precious Lydia!" Kelly's voice dripped with sarcasm.
Then she added, "I feel so much better getting this off my chest. You have no idea how hard it was to find someone to talk to before. Agnes, we women get each other in ways men can't. You're the most innocent. We're definitely friends now. Let's hang out more, grab coffee, go shopping, okay?"
Agnes looked puzzled. Innocent? "Kelly, you must need new glasses. If I'm innocent, then innocence doesn't exist!"
Kelly laughed, "Alright, let's head back. One last thing: Leopold thinks you're special. Don't take that for granted!"
Agnes found Kelly to be more of an enigma.
The first time Agnes met her, she was this classy, elegant socialite. On Lydia's birthday, she was all sexy and mature on the dance floor. This time, she was still gentle but with a hint of warmth and playfulness.
Next time, would she be even more lively and cute or shy and reserved?
Agnes shook her head, trying to clear her jumbled thoughts.
When Agnes and Kelly walked back into the hospital room hand in hand, Lydia was already in bed, surrounded by four high-quality guys. For any woman, this was like a dream come true.
Ethan and Leopold saw Agnes and Kelly come in and walked over. Leopold pulled Agnes away from Kelly, "Where'd you go?"
Agnes replied, "The restroom."
Ethan acted all surprised, "You went to the restroom together? Didn't know you two were that close now."
Kelly grinned and teased Agnes, "Agnes and I are like besties now. Who knows, we might even share the same pair of pants someday!"
Whether Kelly was joking or not, at least she made Agnes feel at ease. Agnes played along, "Yeah, I need to lose weight so I can fit into Kelly's pants!"
Even though Leopold knew they were joking, he still looked a bit annoyed, "Why would my wife wear your pants?"
Leopold rubbed Agnes's waist. She didn't need to lose weight; she should eat more and gain some.
Kelly was amused by his seriousness, "Agnes, you need to train Leopold well. He'll make a great husband!"
Agnes glanced at Leopold but spoke to Kelly, "I don't see it."
Kelly laughed, leaning into Ethan's arms. "I think you're just too shy to admit it! Look, your face is all red!"
Agnes pretended to be mad and glared at Kelly. "Mr. Perez, take care of your fiancée!"
Ethan replied right away, "Okay."
This time, it was Agnes's turn to feel triumphant.
Leroy chimed in sarcastically, "Can you two lovebirds just leave? Flaunting your love like this, have you considered our feelings?"
Leopold shot back, "If you have the guts, bring Megan back and flaunt your love too."
That remark hit Leroy hard. His face turned grim, and he went silent.
Seeing Leroy so hurt, Agnes tugged at Leopold's sleeve. Leopold glanced at her and got the message, raising an eyebrow. Was she feeling sorry for Leroy?
After making sure Lydia was fine, Leopold and Ethan left the hospital with their partners.
The four went their separate ways.
For the next two days, Leopold didn't go to the office and worked from home. Agnes had to go back to school and didn't miss a single class.
On campus, Agnes and Bella stood by the track, waiting for Justin and Jeremy to join them for class. After waiting a while without seeing them, Agnes and Bella started chatting.
Agnes noticed Ethan and Leopold talking in front of the office building in the distance. Wasn't Leopold supposed to be resting at home? How did he get back to teaching so quickly?
"Agnes, what are you looking at?" A gentle voice sounded in Agnes's ear.
Hearing that familiar voice, Agnes's eyelid twitched. As long as she was at school, Grace was like a shadow, always around. "What's it to you?"
Agnes silently complained about why Leopold didn't inform her before coming to school.
But then Agnes's eyes shifted, noticing the excited female students around because of Leopold's presence. Grace's eyes were already red. No wonder Agnes kept glancing over; it was because Leopold had arrived! Grace had once again witnessed the legendary Leopold!
Ethan and Leopold stood side by side, forming an eye-catching scene that attracted more and more attention.
Agnes thoughtfully patted Grace's shoulder. The latter, still immersed in excitement, hadn't come back to her senses and asked, "What?"
Strangely, when with Grace, Agnes didn't feel the slightest impatience. She pointed to Leopold not far away, "See that? It's Leopold!"
Grace rolled her eyes, "You think I need you to tell me that?"
Ignoring her bad temper, Agnes raised her voice and suggested, "Grace, how about we make a bet?"
"Why should I?" Grace wanted to say she was being ridiculous but held back to maintain her image.
"Don't you always want to see me embarrassed? Last time, you set me up to make a fool of myself at Leopold's press conference. Now that Mr. Neville is right here, are you really going to let me off?" Agnes said.
Grace leaned close to her ear, smiling sweetly but speaking harshly, "Of course not."
Agnes stepped back slightly, looking at Grace's entourage, "How about this: If I confess to Leopold in front of everyone and tell him I really like him, and he doesn't kick me out, you have to publicly apologize to me ten times and sing under the flag with them. How about that?"
