Chapter 71

"It's a long story. I'll fill you in later." He popped open the antiseptic and expertly dipped a cotton swab into it.

The antiseptic stung, making Agnes wince. It hurt, but she could handle it. A more delicate girl might've been in tears by now.

Leopold noticed her discomfort and softened his tone, "Hang in there, it'll be over soon." He sped up his work.

"It's fine, I can take it." If her girlfriends saw her being this tough, they'd definitely tease her for not being delicate enough.

Most girls might use this chance to whimper a bit and get some sympathy from a guy, but not Agnes. Playing coy wasn't her style.

After a moment, she couldn't help but ask, "Leopold, why did you come to find me?"

Leopold didn't answer right away. He grabbed a band-aid from the first aid kit and carefully applied it to her wound.

"Can we skip the band-aid?" She didn't like the idea of something stuck to her face; it looked too weird, and her wound wasn't that bad.

Leopold was firm, "Nope, take it off tomorrow morning."

"Alright, but why didn't you answer my question?" she pressed.

Leopold set the first aid kit aside and said matter-of-factly, "You're my wife. Isn't it normal for me to look for you?"

Couldn't Leopold say something sweet to cheer her up? She muttered, "Okay."

Leopold nudged her towards the bathroom, "Wash up and get to bed. We have an early flight back home tomorrow."

"But I still want to have fun!" she admitted.

Leopold couldn't understand why she didn't want to leave even after being robbed. He didn't argue and just pulled her into his arms, warning in a low voice, "Are you listening to me or not?"

To avoid his wandering hands, Agnes darted into the bathroom, "I'll take a shower first."

She quickly showered and came out to find Leopold already working.

Her phone rang just then. Seeing the caller ID, Agnes hesitated for a moment before stepping onto the balcony to answer. "Hello."

"Agnes, what happened earlier? I just finished a meeting." Michael's voice came through. Agnes looked at the lake in the night and forced a smile, "It's nothing. You go ahead with your work."

"Agnes, when are you coming back? I'll pick you up," Michael offered.

"No need, Michael. Don't call me anymore. I'm married now. To avoid misunderstandings, we should contact each other less," Agnes said.

Michael was silent for a moment and then suddenly laughed, "Agnes, you don't need to lie to avoid me. You're only 21; how could you be married?"

"Agnes." Leopold's deep male voice came through behind her, making her stiffen. Did Leopold hear that? She had promised Leopold not to contact Michael anymore.

On the other end, Michael clearly sensed something, "Agnes, who is that man? Why are you two together so late?"

Agnes turned to face Leopold's grim expression.

Feeling guilty, she quickly hung up the phone. "It's my husband. I have something to deal with. Goodbye."

Holding her phone, Agnes felt lost for words. She smoothed her hair and said, "Don't get the wrong idea."

Leopold didn't say anything and just walked back into the room.

Agnes had no choice but to follow. Staring at his back, she awkwardly tried to explain, "Leopold, there's nothing between me and him anymore."

Leopold turned, his sharp eyes locking onto her flushed face, "How can I believe you?"

Agnes sighed, put down her phone, wrapped her arms around his waist, and kissed him. After a moment, she softly asked, "Leopold, is this enough?"

How could he resist her kiss? Not only did he not resist, but he wanted more.

He silently pulled her into his arms and kissed her again.

As they embraced, the room's atmosphere grew more intimate. Before she knew it, Agnes found herself on the bed, tightly held beneath him in a passionate embrace.

The next morning, Leopold and Agnes walked out of the lodge, both looking a bit off.

Leopold's face was dark, and although Agnes seemed energetic, she was clearly a bit down.

Dennis, carrying Agnes's luggage, didn't dare to breathe too loudly. He could sense the subtle tension between Leopold and Agnes.

Did they have another fight? It didn't seem like it; they didn't appear to have any conflicts.

Could it be that Leopold was unhappy with the room last night? Didn't sleep well? He had suggested a better room, but Leopold refused!

It was baffling. However, it wasn't his place to worry.

Until they reached the VIP lounge at the airport, Agnes, unable to stay calm, glared at Leopold and accused him of being too self-centered.

Leopold took a sip of coffee, his cold gaze sweeping over the fuming Agnes. He felt a strange pang of regret. However, it quickly vanished, and a playful smile appeared on his lips. "What? Are you disappointed we didn't make love last night?"

Agnes's cheeks flushed, and she quickly lowered her head to drink her coffee, trying to hide her embarrassment. "What are you talking about? I've never met a man like you!"

Leopold set down his coffee cup and leaned closer to Agnes, his voice low and seductive, "Sorry I didn't satisfy you last night. Tonight will be different. Tell me what position you want, and we'll do it."

Anyway, once they were in the room, he would decide the position.

This might be the first time in Leopold's life that he regretted something so much it gave him a headache.

Too embarrassed to look up, she mumbled, "I'm going back to the dorm tonight, not staying at the villa."

Leopold tapped his long fingers on the table twice, "In that case, why don't you move into my room? We're married. I've given you time to adjust; you should get used to having a husband around."

"No, I mean moving back to the dorm to live with Bella and the others, not sleeping with you. Do you understand?" Agnes hurriedly explained.

Leopold nodded seriously, "Got it. Thanks for reminding me."
