Chapter 42
Agnes slowly stood up, awkwardly flipping through the textbook she had never opened, unable to say anything coherent for a long time.
Leopold spoke lightly, "Since you don't know, please come to the podium."
Why was she at the podium?
Despite her confusion, Agnes got up and walked to the podium.
Leopold pointed expressionlessly to the corner, "Stand here until class is over and listen to my lecture."
The spot he pointed to was less than ten feet from the screen. Once Leopold stood to the right, the distance between them would be less than two feet.
Agnes felt extremely awkward. Although she had been punished by teachers before, most of them didn't dare treat her like this. At most, they made her stand, but she would refuse to do so.
Standing at the edge of the podium, Agnes remained motionless. Leopold shot her a cold glance, making her shiver.
Leopold was acting all serious! When he flirted with her, his eyes weren't this cold. What an annoying man!
Thinking of the time he left her at Arlington National Cemetery, Agnes bit her lower lip and finally obediently stood where Leopold had indicated.
Leopold was definitely abusing his power for personal revenge! What a petty guy!
Just as Agnes settled on the podium, Leopold's next target almost made her burst out laughing. "Student in the second seat of the eighth row, stand up and summarize!" That person was Bella.
If Bella could answer, Agnes would walk off the podium backward.
Sure enough, Bella, who also paid her way into the business school, didn't summarize and was assigned to stand by the podium with Agnes.
Agnes felt a bit better; at least she had her best friend with her, which wasn't too bad!
Even more so, Clara, who sat next to Bella, wasn't spared either. Clara was slightly better and able to say a few words, but since she didn't grasp the main points, she was also assigned to stand by the podium.
The three girls were initially quite depressed, but seeing each other there, they couldn't help but smile secretly.
Next, more than half the class pretended not to listen attentively, hoping to be called to the podium by Leopold so they could stand close to him.
Unfortunately, Leopold didn't call on anyone else after that.
Rows of text and images filled the giant screen as Leopold gave his focused lecture. Positioned right in front of Agnes, he showcased his perfect profile.
They were so close that Agnes could see the tiny stitching details on his collar. She hooked Bella's finger discreetly, trying to steady her thoughts.
"Can you tell me in your own words what I explained?" Leopold's targeted question jolted Agnes back to reality.
Why was Leopold asking her again? "Um... well... I..." She hadn't been listening to the lecture at all!
Agnes stammered, unable to answer, and Bella lost in Leopold's looks, was the same. Only Clara managed to answer. Those usually hard-to-understand points became clear and simple once Leopold explained them. As long as one didn't stare at Leopold himself, one could basically understand without getting distracted.
Leopold put down the textbook, "Those who answered correctly can go back to their seats. For the remaining two, you must learn today's lesson! Come to my office after class, and I'll explain it to you individually."
This almost caused an uproar in the multimedia classroom.
Having a one-on-one lesson with Leopold was a dream come true for many girls.
Indeed, most of the girls envied them for being able to spend time alone with Leopold, while the other envied them for receiving Leopold's exclusive guidance.
However, Bella excitedly linked arms with Agnes and headed to Leopold's office, only to be dismissed by Leopold with sentences. "Bella, you listened attentively earlier, so you don't need to go over it again. You can go back now!"
Bella nodded blankly, "Okay!"
After Bella left, she heard the sound of the door locking behind her, and she suddenly realized that Agnes was still inside.
Moreover, she hadn't been listening attentively either.
Leopold's assistant, Dennis, walked over, adjusted his glasses, and smiled, "Bella, if you have nothing else, you should head back."
"But Agnes is still inside," Bella said.
"Agnes will surely cherish the opportunity to receive one-on-one instruction from Mr. Neville," Dennis implied, 'Mr. Neville has decided you should leave, so don't disturb them.'
Bella wasn't stupid; she understood his meaning. But she remembered the entanglements between Agnes and Leopold, furrowing her brows, "Mr. Neville won't harm Agnes, will he?"
Dennis smiled slightly. Regardless of whether Agnes was truly Leopold's wife, Leopold would never bully a woman. "Don't worry, Mr. Neville is just trying to tutor her."
Although he didn't know what kind of scene would unfold in the office, it wasn't something he needed to worry about.
Recalling Clara's joke about Leopold wanting to bury Agnes alive, Bella still felt uneasy, "Maybe I should go in and keep Agnes company. I'll sit quietly and listen to Mr. Neville's guidance."
Dennis shook his head. The couple's alone time didn't need any outsiders. "Bella, I assure you, Mr. Neville will not mistreat Agnes, okay?"
With Dennis's reassurance, Bella didn't insist and returned to the classroom.
Inside the office.
Leopold placed a folder in front of Agnes. "From now on, your schedule includes grad school prep, yoga, dance, piano, and etiquette classes, and you can't miss any of them. Additionally, I will personally teach French, advanced mathematics, and finance and economics courses."
"Stop." Agnes covered the densely packed A4 paper with both hands, preventing Leopold from continuing.
She leaned forward, getting close to Leopold, "Leopold, what gives you the right to arrange so many courses for me?" Did he even ask for her opinion?
Leopold sat up straight, meeting Agnes's dissatisfied gaze, and said in a deep voice, "Because I'm your husband."
Those simple words made Agnes's cheeks blush. Leopold's words were unexpectedly pleasant to hear! Suppressing her inner turmoil, she retorted uncomfortably, "Yes, you're just my husband, not my dad. Why are you doing all this?"
Leopold's expression darkened slightly; she seemed to have a point.
Suddenly, he reached out and pulled her into his arms, making her sit steadily on his lap.
Not allowing her to struggle, he wrapped one arm around her waist and held her chin with the other, forcing her to look at him, "Do you want me to do what a husband should do? No problem!"
With that, he lowered his head and kissed her.
Agnes felt a mix of emotions. She and Leopold clearly had communication issues. She didn't mean for him to kiss her!
However, Leopold's kissing skills were impressive. Within seconds, she was lost in it, her mind going blank.
Until she was pushed to the edge of the desk, and his large hand aggressively unbuttoned her shirt, Agnes suddenly grabbed his hand, escaping his embrace, her cheeks burning, "Let go of me!"
Leopold was really bold; this was the office!
