Chapter 69

She pretended to scroll through her recent calls, but she wasn't planning on dialing anyone. She just needed an escape plan. But then, she accidentally tapped on Michael's number, and before she knew it, the phone was ringing.

Michael picked up fast, sounding rushed. "Agnes, I'm in a meeting. What's up? If it's not urgent, I'll hang up."

Something pushed her to speak up. "Actually, Michael, I do need to talk. They want to—"

"What do they want? Agnes, the meeting's about to start. I'll have my secretary call you back later." Truth be told, Michael's meeting hadn't started yet. He was just ticked off that Agnes had hung up on him earlier and wanted to mess with her.

The call ended abruptly.

Michael didn't give it much thought. It was late; did she really want to have a talk or it was just a joke?

Back in the room, Jerry and Juan were getting antsy. When they saw the call had ended, they grabbed her phone. "I don't buy that your phone's out of money or that you don't have a bank card. Hand it over, I'll swipe it, and you enter the password!"

They snatched the phone and found the bank card Leopold had given her in her wallet.

Just then, Agnes's phone rang again, and "Leopold" flashed on the screen.

The sting from Michael's call faded, replaced by a flicker of hope. "Let me answer this call first."

Jerry and Juan weren't having it. "No, give us the card and swipe it!"

They cut off the call.

They were out of patience, and so was Agnes. She wasn't about to lose $5,600 without a fight. How would she know if she could escape if she didn't try? She took a few steps back, gathered her strength, and charged at Juan.

She jumped onto Juan's back, wrapped her right arm around his neck, and kicked his knees with both feet. Caught off guard, Juan dropped to his knees.

Seeing this, Jerry flexed his muscles, his fists like sledgehammers.

Agnes blocked with her leg, the pain nearly making her scream.

Kneeling, Juan swept his leg, and Agnes, tangled up with Jerry, fell hard on her back.

She gritted her teeth, got up, straightened her clothes, and leaped into the air, kicking both Jerry and Juan in the chest.

With Jerry and Juan momentarily stunned, she used the edge of the table to leap up and aim a punch at Jerry's eye socket.

But she didn't make it; her wrist was twisted behind her back.

She got a hard slap across the face, and just as Jerry was about to kick her again, the shop door was knocked on.

To say it was knocked would be an understatement; it was more like it was being smashed.

The shop owner, smoking in the corner, gave Jerry a look, and he dragged Agnes into the inner room.

The door opened, and outside in the dark stood a dozen people. The leader, Leopold, saw the chaos inside the shop, and his face darkened.

The shop owner, clearly rattled, especially with Leopold's intimidating presence, quickly put on a smile and asked politely, "What brings you here so late?"

No one said a word. Leopold, rocking some brand-new leather shoes, walked into the shop like he owned the place.

Agnes's phone location had led him right here.

He pulled out his phone and dialed her number again. Sure enough, the ringtone came from the back room.

Through a crack in the door, Agnes, with her mouth covered, saw Leopold outside. She was thrilled but couldn't make a sound.

Seeing "Leopold" flash on the screen, she was overjoyed to tears.

She knew that the travel-worn Leopold was here for her.

Leopold shot a cold glance at the shop owner and made his way to the back room door, kicking it open.

The sight inside made his heart clench, and his face darkened even more.

Agnes, now covered in dirt, was pinned down by a burly guy, half her face pressed to the ground, her mouth covered, and her hands tightly restrained.

His rationality vanished, replaced by a chilling aura. He crossed the room in a few strides. Before the two burly men could react, he had already kicked Jerry to the ground.

Juan didn't fare any better; Leopold's kick sent him flying to the edge of the shabby bed.

He bent down and gently lifted Agnes from the ground, softly smoothing her messy hair. "Are you okay?" he asked in a deep voice. Her cheek was slightly bruised, and he didn't dare to touch it, only gently blowing away the dust.

Agnes nodded, deeply moved by his actions.

After making sure Agnes was safe, Leopold turned back to Jerry. With a wrenching twist and pull, Jerry's arm popped out of its socket, his screams echoing in the air.

In a flash, Juan's arm met the same fate.

Watching Leopold effortlessly take down two burly men, Agnes was in awe. Just as she worried about what harsher treatment the men might face, Leopold's actions abruptly stopped, making her realize how incredible his skills were.

Leopold flexed his wrist and pulled Agnes along. The shop owner, realizing he had messed with the wrong guy, trembled on his knees.

"What happened?" Leopold asked coldly, directing his question at Agnes. He finally asked for the reason. He had just come in and beat Jerry and Juan half to death without a word. Could she understand that he was losing his mind because of her?

No time to think, she pointed to a cross necklace on the counter, "They forced me to buy this!"

Leopold glanced at the cross necklace, saying nothing.

Agnes continued, "They asked for $5,600. This necklace isn't worth that much at all, so I refused! Then they locked me up and tried to use my card. No, your card to pay!"

Leopold instantly recognized the necklace as a cheap product, something that could be bought for a hundred bucks, yet they dared to price it at $5,600 and force a sale!

He let go of Agnes's hand, walked to the counter, and kicked it over. The counter collapsed with a crash.

Glass shards flew, and jewelry scattered on the ground.

Agnes was startled by the sudden violence. She had never seen this side of Leopold; tonight had completely changed her perception of him!

And Leopold turned to Dennis and coldly ordered, "Smash the store!"
