Chapter 64

"It's a part-time job, you know. So you can only be a café waitress. Are you sure about that? Maybe I should ask your husband first. Your word doesn't count!" Justin said.

Agnes quickly stopped Justin from hanging up the phone. "Don't call him. Why bother him with something so small? I want to work!"

"Alright," Justin sighed, giving in.

But just two days into the job, Agnes hit a snag.

The café manager called, saying Agnes had hit a customer. And she didn't see the problem, angrily saying, "He’s a scumbag with three lovers!"

Justin had to find her another job, this time as a supermarket cashier. But in less than three days, she clashed with the manager again! She still didn't see her mistake, just ranting about being bullied.

The constant job changes nearly drove Justin nuts. Finally, Clara stepped in, "Agnes, come sing at the bar with me! With your talent, you can make a lot of money in one night!"

Agnes thought it was a good idea, but Justin was uneasy. If she caused trouble at a supermarket and café, wouldn't a bar be even worse?

Luckily, the bar was a place their friends frequented, so he could keep an eye on her.

But Agnes had a problem. Leopold tutored her every night, so she couldn't sing every night.

In the end, Justin worked out a deal with the bar manager. Agnes would come only when she was free, and they'd pay her based on how long she performed. Problem solved.

Luckily, Leopold was also busy. For example, today, he told her early that he couldn't tutor her tonight, so Agnes could go to work!

For the first two nights, Justin was there to watch over her. Apart from a few people confessing their love on the big screen, no one caused any trouble.

On the third night, Agnes wowed the crowd with her performance of "Someone Like You." Afterwards, the DJ, who was also a singer, took over the bar's big screen for half an hour to confess, "Agnes, be my girlfriend. I love you!"

Amid the screams, Agnes calmly told the DJ, "I'm married. I have a husband!"

Unfortunately, her voice was too soft, and she wasn't wearing a wedding ring, so no one believed her.

She then sang "The Man," drawing even more attention.

In the VIP section on the second floor, Leopold, holding a glass of whiskey, stood up from the sofa and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, coldly watching Agnes on the stage below, his eyes narrowing. When did she start singing at a bar, and how did he not know?

If it weren't for an important matter tonight, he wouldn't have set foot in this insignificant bar.

On stage, Agnes was totally lost in her song, belting out, "Cause if I was a man then I'd be the man, I'd be the man, I'd be the man."

If Leopold hadn't heard her sing this song before, he might not have recognized her. Seeing the confession on the big screen by accident sent a chill down his spine.

When the song ended, the crowd went wild with applause.

Someone nudged Leopold to sign the contract, so he had to let Agnes go for a bit. But he didn't expect her to stir up more trouble while he was signing the contract.

As Agnes walked off the stage, Brian, holding a freshly poured whiskey in one hand and a stack of bills in the other, looked at her sleazily and said, "Miss, drink this, and the money is yours!"

Agnes glanced disdainfully at the roughly twenty ten-dollar bills. "Two hundred bucks for a glass of whiskey?" she scoffed. "Not interested!"

She could make two hundred dollars singing for an hour. Why mess up her body? Drinking was harmful!

Brian, embarrassed and pissed at her attitude, pulled out another stack of bills and slammed it on the table, "Drink!"

This time, the amount was significant! Agnes, bold and straightforward, downed it without a word.

Brian smirked in satisfaction, and amidst the crowd's exclamations, Agnes downed a second glass. Clara, singing on stage, was anxious and wanted to find Justin, but he was nowhere to be found, having been flirting with women earlier.

After three glasses of whiskey, Agnes had over two thousand dollars in cash.

Justin swaggered back from the restroom. Because the crowd blocked his view, he didn't notice Agnes at first and sat back down, continuing to flirt with the ladies.

By the time Clara called him over, Agnes had already drunk seven glasses of whiskey.

Justin rushed over, snatched the whiskey from Agnes's hand, and anxiously asked, "Are you crazy? How many glasses have you had?" Seeing the pile of cash in front of her, Justin shivered, thinking, ‘This is big trouble!’

Agnes waved her hand nonchalantly and laughed, "It's fine. Look, one glass is worth a few thousand! I'm still good!"

Her tolerance was indeed impressive; after seven glasses of whiskey, her cheeks were flushed, but she was still clear-headed.

She was in a good mood today, so why not make some extra cash? She raised the whiskey Brian had just poured and downed it again, scooping the stack of bills into her arms.

Although she was using Leopold's money now, it was always good to stash some away for a rainy day. That way, in case of a divorce in the future, she wouldn't be left in a financial bind.

Seeing his attempts to stop her were futile, Justin pointed at Brian, cleared his throat, and shouted, "Stop it! Do you know who she is? You keep pouring her drinks. Are you tired of living?"
