Chapter 117
For her praise, Leopold was quite pleased and smiled. "Thank you, Agnes!"
"You are so excellent, how can I ever surpass you in the future?" Once upon a time, she had fantasized about surpassing Leopold, taking his place, and making him stay at home to take care of the Wright Family. Now it seemed that just the language alone made her feel out of reach, with no way to compete!
The two of them chatted as they walked to the bathroom.
Leopold raised an eyebrow. "You can do it too. Give it a try."
Thinking about having to learn all this, immersing herself in the endless sea of Arcadian and Solstice languages every day, Agnes shook her head. "Forgert it, Leopold, I'll be the housewife in the future! You know, the kind where you bring home the bacon, and I stay pretty at home."
Leopold elegantly washed his hands, then pinched her cheek with his wet hand. "As long as you're happy."
This small action made Agnes exclaim softly. She pulled out a tissue from the box and gently wiped the water droplets off her face. "I put on makeup to meet Teresa today! Don't mess it up!"
Although her makeup was waterproof, it was better to be careful.
Leopold was taken aback by her sudden complaint. So that was what she was fussing with at the dressing table this morning while he was on the phone!
After washing their hands, they returned to find dinner ready. The meal was sumptuous, with ten dishes and two soups, and the servants poured each of them a glass of Leopold's treasured red wine.
Leopold and Agnes sat side by side, with Teresa and Lydia across from them. The four of them clinked glasses lightly, and dinner began.
Initially, the atmosphere was pleasant, and Agnes couldn't stop praising Teresa's cooking skills.
Halfway through the meal, Lydia couldn't hold back and started serving food to everyone, "Uncle Leopold, try this chicken wing. I helped with the cooking, see if it suits your taste?"
"Okay." Leopold did not refuse.
"Uncle Leopold, I also helped with this soup, how does it taste?" Before Lydia finished speaking, a bowl of soup was already in front of Leopold.
Her eagerness might make an outsider think Lydia was Leopold's wife.
Leopold remained indifferent, responding briefly, "Thanks."
Seeing this, Agnes was naturally displeased, but Teresa, instead of speaking up, kept serving her food, making it hard for her to say anything.
A piece of boneless fish landed in Agnes's bowl. "I've already removed the bones," Lydia said.
Agnes paused. If Teresa weren't present, she would have jealously questioned whether Leopold remembered she was his wife. However, she swallowed all her words and simply said, "Thank you."
Two minutes later, a peeled shrimp appeared in her bowl. "I heard you like seafood. Mom specially prepared a few dishes, eat more."
Teresa smiled gently. "Yes, Agnes, this lobster was flown in fresh this morning. I made it into sashimi; try it!"
"Thank you, Mom!" Agnes gratefully thanked Teresa.
Without hesitation, she quickly put the shrimp into her mouth. Leopold observed from the side, seeing that Agnes wanted more, he intercepted her fork.
Agnes was puzzled, only to see Leopold dip the lobster meat Teresa had cut into sauce and place it all in her bowl, while the shelled part went into his own plate, where he began to carefully peel it.
Agnes was momentarily speechless and leaned close to his ear to whisper, "Mom and Lydia haven't eaten yet!"
Leopold remained unmoved, "They don't eat lobster."
"Yes, Agnes, I'm allergic to lobster, and Lydia doesn't like seafood." Teresa sighed inwardly, seeing Leopold so attentive to Agnes, yet not serving her a single dish. Even so, seeing their affection made Teresa happy.
"Allergic? Are you okay handling the shrimp?" Agnes looked at Teresa with concern.
Teresa shook her head. "It's fine. I just don't eat it!"
"Then, Mom, try this." She pushed a plate of steak towards Teresa.
"Thank you, Agnes." Teresa took a piece and placed it in her bowl.
"Are you allergic to seafood or just don't like it?" she asked Leopold, who was busy.
Leopold shook his head. He truly was a man of few words.
Lydia quickly finished her meal, followed by Teresa. Leopold, being considerate of her, ate slowly.
In the end, only Agnes was left eating slowly, while Teresa and Lydia chatted over fruit.
She felt a bit embarrassed, being the first time dining with Teresa and eating so much, was she being too ungraceful?
Lydia looked at Agnes with admiration. "Aunt Agnes, you really have a great appetite and you don't gain weight, I'm so envious!"
Agnes couldn't tell if Lydia was genuinely admiring or mocking her, so she just smiled and continued eating.
Teresa didn't mind. "Being able to eat well is a blessing. Agnes, take your time and eat until you're full."
Agnes was almost moved to tears. How lucky she was to have family like Leopold and Teresa. "Okay, Mom!"
After dinner, Leopold had the servants prepare another fruit platter for Agnes. Unable to resist the temptation, she quickly finished it.
Late at night, Teresa had Lydia stay over at the villa.
Agnes didn't mind, as Leopold shared a room with her, Lydia couldn't do anything.
As the night deepened, the villa grew quieter.
Teresa knocked on the study door, and after getting permission, she entered. Leopold was working on his computer. She closed the door and sat in a chair. "Leopold, do you have a lot of work?"
"Mom, what's the matter?" Leopold asked.
Teresa hesitated. "About you and Agnes, your father...You know, in his heart, the daughter of the Woods Family always..."
"Mom! Agnes and I are married, when you go home, tell him to put those thoughts away." Leopold's tone was firm.
Teresa looked troubled.
Leopold closed his laptop. "I'll talk to him myself; you just act like you don't know."
"No, if you talk to him, who knows what will happen; let me handle it." Due to company matters, Leopold and his father, Gerald Neville, often had disagreements and their interactions were frequently unpleasant.
Leopold thought for a moment. "This was initially Grandpa's idea, but now, it's my own decision. Whether Dad accepts it or not, I won't separate from Agnes."
"Your grandpa's idea?"
