Chapter 23

"Robert, what? Go back now? Alright, got it." Ever since she signed those divorce papers, Agnes had pretty much been crashing at the dorm.

Out of nowhere, Robert called and told her to head back to Tranquil Haven Estates. This couldn't be good.

"Clara, you head back first. I gotta deal with something at home," Agnes said.

"Something up?" Clara asked, looking worried.

Agnes waved her off, "Nah, see you tomorrow!"

"Okay then!" Clara replied.

In less than two minutes, Agnes flagged down a taxi to Tranquil Haven Estates. Sitting in the car, she felt a knot in her stomach. Would Leopold agree to the divorce once he knew she was his wife?

Agnes paid the fare and stared at the brightly lit villa, feeling more anxious by the second.

Usually, it was just her, the housekeeper Eden, and sometimes Robert. But it was past ten at night, Eden was off duty, and Robert showing up this late could only mean one thing: Leopold was here.

She took a deep breath, slung her black shoulder bag over her shoulder, and walked calmly into the villa's living room, where she immediately heard Robert's voice.

Two people came into view.

The imposing man on the sofa was none other than Leopold.

Leopold was sitting with his eyes closed, listening to Robert, who was sweating bullets, report on Agnes's school life. "Leopold, she graduated high school at the bottom of her class. As per your instructions, she's now studying finance at the School of Economics and Management, currently in her junior year."

Robert noticed the commotion at the door and gave Agnes a sympathetic glance. Leopold didn't seem to hear the door close, still keeping his eyes shut. His well-defined right hand's index and middle fingers lightly tapped the armrest of the sofa.

"What does Agnes usually do at school?" Leopold's deep, magnetic voice cut through Robert's report, and Agnes shot Robert a pitiful look.

Robert hesitated. Over the past three years, he'd watched this adorable kid, Agnes, grow up.

"Speak!" Leopold's icy voice made both Robert and Agnes shiver.

Robert helplessly glanced at the pitiful Agnes. 'Agnes, you're on your own now!' Then Agnes listened, feeling hopeless, as all her misdeeds were recounted.

If it weren't for the inappropriate setting, Agnes would have given him a thumbs up. 'Robert, you're so dedicated!'

"Ms. Rivera from the Office of Student Affairs said recently that someone reported her for forming cliques, getting into fights, and smashing a teacher's desk," Robert said.

Hearing that someone reported her, Agnes didn't need to guess; it had to be Grace!

But hearing the latter part, she broke out in a cold sweat. She bit her lower lip. She had indeed smashed a teacher's desk, but that wasn't her fault! 'Wait! Leopold's role is her husband, not her father, right? Why is Leopold acting like her dad, disciplining her?'

"Enough! Go upstairs and clean out a room for me." Leopold suddenly opened his eyes and looked expressionlessly at the figure standing with her head down at the door.

'Is Leopold planning to stay here? If so, shouldn't he be staying in the same room as Agnes?' But Robert didn't dare to ask. Suppressing his doubts, he immediately went upstairs to have the largest room cleaned.

Agnes felt his sharp gaze on her, making her uneasy. Clutching the edge of her clothes tightly, every word he said felt like a hammer pounding on her heart.

She wasn't usually scared of him, but right now, Leopold's aura was in full force. The guy had been in the business world forever, and just a look from him could intimidate anyone. So yeah, she was a bit freaked out.

"Come here!" Leopold's command made her reflexively take a few steps forward and stop about ten feet away, her mind blank.

Having such a troublesome wife, would he divorce her right away or just bury her alive? If he decided to have her buried alive right now, she wouldn't have anyone to call for help.

Leopold glanced indifferently at Agnes's slightly pale face.

Agnes was pretty bold at school, singing sarcastically to him earlier and always provocating him before. Why couldn't she even lift her head now?

"From now on, I'm moving in here. You're not allowed to stay in the dorm anymore, and I'll take you to school every day!" His cold words made Agnes feel like she had instantly fallen into hell.

Was she about to lose her freedom?

Agnes almost exploded in anger!

Before she could lose her temper, Leopold spoke first, taking the initiative, "Any objections?" Seeing the anger flash in her eyes, his tone became even colder, and the atmosphere in the living room grew more tense.

He could ignore her previous behavior because he didn't know her identity. But now that he knew she was his wife, Agnes would be under his control from now on!

And he would make sure to discipline her until she became a good girl!

At this moment, she deeply understood who she was facing: Leopold! Leopold, a man of immense power and wealth, could crush a person as easily as he would crush an ant!

Agnes quickly suppressed her inner collapse and shook her head. Even if she had objections, she didn't dare voice them! As for divorce, she wouldn't dare mention it now more.

Leopold asked about her current situation and requested that the room be cleaned, clearly indicating that he didn't want a divorce!

Accidentally meeting his gaze, Agnes shivered lightly. Although it was just early autumn, she felt the entire villa was filled with cold air, and her whole body was about to freeze.

She wanted a divorce for freedom, but after mentioning divorce, she seemed to have even less freedom. Didn't he dislike her? Why wouldn't he divorce her? Why?

Leopold silently stood up from the sofa and walked upstairs first. Only when his figure completely disappeared at the second-floor staircase did the oppressive feeling in the air vanish, and Agnes dared to breathe a sigh of relief.

Would she have no freedom in the future? What would she do? She anxiously sat on the sofa, her mind racing.

She pulled out her phone, went online, and searched for more information about him. Surprisingly, when she typed in Leopold's name, nothing appeared—not even a hint of gossip!

It was unfathomable that he could manipulate internet search results in this era of advanced information.

To conquer, one had first to understand oneself and one's opponent. But with no information about the enemy, how could she defeat him?

Should she negotiate with him directly? No, Leopold could probably send her to hell with just one sentence!
