Chapter 171

Jocelyn frowned, looking at Lydia crying so sadly, feeling a wave of irritation in her heart. She said coldly, "It's New Year's Eve, a time for family reunion, why are you still crying? Look at how strong Agnes is. Go back to your rooms and sleep, don't cause any more trouble."

The hallway immediately fell silent. Lydia looked pitifully at Jocelyn and apologized in a low voice, "I'm sorry, Mrs. Neville, for disturbing your rest. We'll go back now."

Candice helped Lydia towards the room and softly said as they passed by Jocelyn, "Mom, you should go to bed early too."

Jocelyn was quite satisfied with Candice. Although Candice's family conditions were average, she had a gentle personality and didn't talk much. After nodding slightly, Jocelyn turned and went into her room.

After sending Lydia back to her room, Teresa and Candice could still hear Gerald loudly scolding in the study.

Teresa shook her head helplessly.

The room door was knocked again, and it was Agnes who was packing her luggage who opened it. Seeing it was Teresa, she smiled. "Mom, you're not asleep yet?"

Teresa glanced at Agnes and smiled lightly. "No, what are you doing?"

Agnes pointed to the open suitcase. "Just packing some things."

"Agnes, Gerald has a bit of a temper, don't take it too seriously."

Agnes was stunned for a moment, then nodded. "Got it. After all, Leopold suddenly got married, Dad might not be able to accept it right away."

The new title she had practiced several times on the plane hadn't had a chance to be used due to various changes. Hearing Agnes' words, Teresa chuckled, "Yes."

She pretended to say casually, "By the way, did you know that Lydia's parents saved Leopold and the others?"

This sudden topic made Agnes a little surprised, but she quickly understood, probably because Lydia had complained. "I know, Mom, don't worry, I'll take good care of her like a sister."

Facing Agnes' straightforwardness, Teresa was momentarily at a loss. "Yes, Lydia is quite likable, your grandmother and we all like her, treating her like our own daughter. I hope you can truly accept her."

'Accept Lydia? who has always coveted my husband?' Agnes thought so but still responded with a smile, "I'm three years older than her, so naturally, I'll be more tolerant. You don't need to worry too much."

Seeing this, Teresa finally felt relieved. "Alright then, could you help me call Leopold over? I'm worried about Gerald... it might not be appropriate for me to go personally."

Hearing the faint sounds coming from the study, Agnes felt a tightness in her heart. Even Teresa wasn't suitable to intervene directly, let alone her? But since Teresa had asked, to avoid further family disputes, she agreed.

She knocked on the study door before entering, and a response came from inside. "Come in."

Pushing the door open, the scene inside came into view: Leopold was casually leaning on the couch, smoking; Tiffany and Alfred were sitting on the opposite couch; and Gerald was standing in front of the desk, furious, with a mess on the floor.

"Grandma, Uncle Alfred, Dad, I'm really sorry to disturb you at this time," Agnes said nervously.

Gerald, seeing Agnes walk in, was very angry. "What are you doing here? If you know what's good for you, get out of the Neville Manor and go back to Lumina City!"

"Gerald!" Leopold, usually silent, suddenly stood up and shouted his name.

Not expecting Leopold to retaliate so directly, Gerald glared at Leopold, who had walked to Agnes' side, "You bastard!" Before he finished speaking, he picked up a thick book beside him and threw it at Leopold.

Agnes instinctively shouted, "Watch out!" and immediately rushed forward, using her body to shield Leopold. The corner of the book hit her arm and then fell to the ground.

Fortunately, she was wearing thick winter clothes, so although her arm hurt badly, Agnes only grunted and closed her eyes, thinking Gerald was really fierce.

"Agnes!" Leopold growled, quickly grabbing her arm and lifting her sleeve to check for injuries.

Seeing this, Agnes smiled. "It's okay, I'm wearing a padded coat."

Leopold gritted his teeth and said, "Who told you to shield me! Don't you know some martial arts? How could you get hit by a book!"

Agnes smiled and explained softly, "I forgot you also know martial arts, even better than me. Dodging that book should be easy for you."

Seeing no injuries on her delicate arm, Leopold finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Watching the couple care for each other, Gerald snorted coldly, "Stop showing off your affection here! Agnes, the Neville Family doesn't like you. If you agree to go back to Lumina City and divorce Leopold after the New Year, I can tolerate you staying here for a few more days."

Before Leopold could retort, Agnes held his hand and clearly stated her position. "Mrs. Neville, Mr. Gerald Neville, Mr. Alfred Neville, I'm really sorry for making everyone angry. I want to clarify my stance, although I don't understand why I'm not accepted by all of you, I am now Leopold's wife, and we have a good relationship. We won't separate no matter what. No matter what you think, as long as Leopold doesn't want to divorce me, I will never leave him!"

Feeling the warmth and security from his hand, Agnes continued firmly, "So please don't think you can easily separate us. Besides, I'm quite persistent. If you insist on forcing us apart or bullying Leopold, I don't care if you're my elder or what!"

Facing the speechless Gerald and Tiffany's sharp gaze, Agnes didn't back down at all. "All in all, no one can separate us; and a warning to those who want to harm Leopold, including so-called relatives! Shouldn't family be happy for their children's happiness? Why get angry because they are happy? Do you really love Leopold?"

"You are too much!" Tiffany angrily slammed the table.
