Chapter 24
Why hadn't she thought to ask Robert more about him before? She'd been so dumb, going up against Leopold like that, and now she was done!
All because she sang that song to him tonight, totally ticking him off.
Agnes murmured to herself, "Agnes, you always lose your cool when things go south!"
Now she was paying the price! Too late to fix anything now; the enemy was already in their camp.
The next morning, Agnes got up half an hour early, rushing downstairs with dark circles under her eyes, just to sneak away quietly.
She'd already decided that since she couldn't get a divorce right now, she'd avoid him. If she couldn't avoid him, she'd have to appease him, with her main goal being to stay alive!
Rushing downstairs, she saw Leopold, his black shirt a silhouette against the morning sun, calmly eating breakfast.
"Agnes, come have breakfast," Eden said, not noticing Agnes's mood, and turned to the kitchen to get her breakfast.
Agnes refused while rushing to the door, "No need, Eden. I have something urgent at school." When did he get up? Had he started eating breakfast without making a sound?
"Stop!" Leopold commanded calmly, his tone leaving no room for doubt.
Agnes stopped changing her shoes and stammered, "Mr. Neville, I have something to handle at school so that I won't be having breakfast."
Leopold frowned slightly at the title but said nothing. He elegantly wiped his mouth and, without turning around, said, "I'll take you after breakfast."
Leopold picked up his tablet and began reviewing the company's stock data, paying no attention to her.
Agnes still wanted to refuse, but thinking of his gaze, she gave in. She was afraid of being frozen to death, drowned, or even buried alive.
She slowly walked to the large dining table, holding her breakfast and sitting as far away from Leopold as possible.
It felt like she was eating breakfast in a living hell. No exaggeration. By the time she finished, sweat had already formed on her forehead.
She had a feeling this meal would give her indigestion.
After breakfast, Leopold stood up first, picked up his briefcase from the sofa, and walked out of the villa.
Resigned, she quickly grabbed her backpack and followed. By the time she got outside, Leopold was already in a black luxury car.
What about her? Where was her driver? If the driver wasn't there, where should she sit?
The front passenger seat? Not appropriate.
The back seat? Next to him? She didn't want to die of fright.
"I don't have time to wait for you to dawdle," Leopold said. Agnes quickly opened the front passenger door. However, several file folders were on the seat, so she closed the door and got into the back seat.
Leopold sat dominantly on the left side of the car seat, and she carefully sat on the right side.
The car slowly left the villa, and Robert glanced at the cautious Agnes through the rearview mirror, sighing inwardly.
Where had her liveliness gone? She was so afraid of Leopold that sticking carefully to the car door.
Twenty minutes later, at the Lumina City University School of Economics and Management, the black luxury car slowly stopped at the entrance, drawing everyone's amazed gaze.
Luxury cars at the university entrance weren't uncommon, but a supercar worth millions? That was a whole different story.
"Thanks, Mr. Neville. Bye, Robert!" Agnes said, practically bolting from the car like it was on fire.
As soon as she stepped out, the gossip mill started churning. She usually rolled up in a BMW, so what was with the upgrade today?
These days, it wasn't shocking to hear about rich guys keeping college girls around. But when it was Agnes the tomboy, it was unbelievable.
Who would want to keep someone as feisty as her? Sure, she had a pretty face, but her personality was a handful.
"Agnes! Am I seeing things?" Justin rubbed his eyes as she walked up to him. They strolled to class side by side.
He knew she had some kind of background; the BMW she usually came in was already a big deal. But now, she showed up in the latest model from the Neville Group's ZL line, called "Emperor," worth a cool $2 million. Just how loaded was Agnes?
As far as he knew, there were only two Emperors in Lumina City, and one of them belonged to Leopold!
Justin's eyes narrowed suspiciously as he looked her over. Dressed in a gray casual jacket and white pants, Agnes didn't exactly fit the image of a billionaire's mistress.
Agnes jumped up and smacked Justin on the head.
"Stop it with the weird looks," she snapped. She knew what he was thinking, assuming she had some secret sugar daddy.
If only! If she could get close to the powerful Leopold, she might reluctantly agree, even if he was ice-cold!
Since Leopold had laid down the law last night, she'd been scared stiff.
"What are you thinking? That's my family's car! Haven't you heard about my powerful background?" Agnes boasted, making Justin believe her.
Justin immediately dropped his wild theories. Indeed, Agnes wasn't that kind of girl!
By the end of the morning, the news that Agnes had been driven to school in a $2 million luxury car had spread like wildfire.
She was already a big deal on campus, and now she was even more of a sensation.
In the classroom, Agnes lay listlessly on her desk, mulling over her situation with Leopold.
The more she thought about it, the angrier she got, mostly at herself for being such a coward. Just seeing Leopold made her legs turn to jelly! She didn't even dare to bring up divorce anymore. It was too embarrassing.
Agnes covered her face in frustration. If Leopold didn't want a divorce, was she going to be stuck being bullied by him forever?
Another weird thing was that she'd flirted with Justin and winked at Kevin right in front of Leopold before. Shouldn't he hate her?
Logically, Leopold should've signed the divorce papers last night. Why didn't he?
While Agnes was lost in her thoughts, Bella suddenly shouted, "Tomorrow's Clara's birthday. Let's hit the bar tomorrow night. Who's in? Tell Jeremy as usual!"
