Chapter 36
How was she supposed to calm him down? She'd never tried to please anyone at school!
And what about that expensive gift she bought earlier? Was it all for nothing? Did her gift fail to win his heart? And he still treated her like this! It seemed her money was wasted.
Leopold looked at the fork thrown into the fruit bowl and raised an eyebrow. Had her temper finally snapped?
"Go to your room. You’re grounded for a week!" His gaze shifted to Agnes, and he commanded coldly.
Grounded for a week? Agnes was stunned. This was torture for her, worse than being scolded or hit!
"I protest!" She walked up to Leopold, pouting stubbornly.
Protest? Leopold found the word quite novel. No one dared to protest against him before!
His cold eyes glanced at Agnes standing in front of him. "Protest denied!" His words were as icy as ever.
For a moment, Agnes wanted to back down, afraid that his imposing presence would intimidate her before her protest succeeded.
She told herself to take a deep breath, not to get angry, and not to be afraid. After all, he was just a person.
But Leopold was too much like Satan from hell.
"Leopold, I don't want to be locked up at home for a week. I'll go crazy!" She voiced her dissatisfaction without hesitation.
Leopold didn't look at her, only responded indifferently, "If you don't change, your teacher will go crazy!"
Agnes was speechless. She didn't want to be confined at home. "Leopold, don't you think you're overstepping your bounds?"
Leopold suppressed his rising anger. Agnes had long passed her rebellious phase, yet she was still so defiant. She really needed more discipline!
It was clear that Leopold was quite angry. Agnes felt a bit smug, "If you lock me up, I'll climb out the window."
Leopold suddenly stood up, his tall stature immediately giving Agnes a sense of pressure.
"If you insist on challenging me, you can try." After saying this, he left the villa.
'Challenge you? I wouldn't dare! Don't go!' Agnes was about to follow him out but was stopped by Robert.
"Agnes, Mr. Neville instructed that you are not allowed to go out for a week." He looked at the fuming Agnes.
Agnes glared fiercely at the departing Bugatti Veyron, her eyes practically shooting daggers at it. In the end, she decided not to make things difficult for Robert and dejectedly returned to her room.
Half an hour later, as she hesitated about whether to find a rope and escape through the window, she heard a strange noise outside.
Two workers were standing on ladders, welding security bars onto her window.
Agnes's eyes turned red with anger. Wasn't he just her husband? Did being a guardian give him the right to restrict her freedom?
She wanted a divorce!
Although she had spent a lot of his money over the past three years, she had already asked Justin and the others to keep an eye out for job opportunities. Once she earned enough money, she would repay him every cent she had spent!
However, when Agnes considered how Leopold had taken care of her over the past three years, her anger subsided a bit.
He provided her with the best everything because of their marriage. Besides, when her father was alive, he helped her father with many things.
And what about her? Knowing he was her husband, she constantly provoked him and even thought about divorce. She hadn't repaid him at all; he must be very disappointed!
Thinking about it, she glanced at the workers installing the security bars and decided not to escape.
At 10 PM, Leopold returned to the villa and headed straight to his study to get back to work.
After a while, there was a knock on the study door. He frowned, a bit puzzled. This late, it could only be Agnes. What did she want?
"Come in." With his permission, Agnes cautiously opened the door.
She walked in with a tray, avoiding his cold gaze, and placed a cup of hot milk on his desk.
"I'm sorry about what happened earlier. Drink some milk and rest early." She whispered, not daring to lift her head, and quickly left the study.
Sorry? Leopold looked at the closed door and the hot milk she had brought in. What was she up to?
From that day on, Agnes brought a cup of hot milk to the study every night for three days straight.
On the fourth day, Leopold stopped her, "I'll take you to school tomorrow." Seeing the joy and sparkle in Agnes's eyes, he couldn't help but smile.
A black luxury car stopped by the roadside opposite the school. Agnes dashed out of the car like a gust of wind and ran all the way to the school gate.
Leopold watched her run, a smile crossing his eyes.
She was quite adorable.
In the multimedia classroom, several groups of students were chatting. When they saw Agnes, a bunch of them gathered around her. Surrounded by questions, Agnes propped her chin and looked at her friends, "Didn't I tell you on WhatsApp? I had something to do, so I didn't go to school."
Justin, sitting opposite Agnes, scrutinized her, "I heard from Jeremy that a very impressive man went to the Office of Student Affairs that day. Be honest, who is he?"
She rolled her eyes at the curious Justin and glanced at Jeremy, who didn't dare to say who it was, "A big shot. Guess who!"
Her words drew disdain from everyone. In Lumina City, only a few men were considered big shots: Leopold, and his two friends, Ethan and Clifford Hayes.
Leopold was impossible! They hated each other on sight, after all.
Ethan was also unlikely; Jeremy's description didn't match his demeanor.
Clifford was even more impossible because the media had just reported a few days ago. Clifford had been working undercover and commanding operations for several months without proper rest. He had finally cracked a major child trafficking case recently, and the authorities had given him a two-week leave to rest in Avistan.
"Agnes, you and Jeremy are being unfair! You two have secrets, and I protest!" Clara leaned on Agnes's shoulder, acting coy.
Agnes exaggeratedly said, "Jeremy, just tell her. I'm afraid Clara will get jealous and cut ties with me."
This statement provoked Clara, who reacted strongly, glaring at Agnes, "What nonsense! How could I be jealous? I have nothing to do with him."
Jeremy, hearing this, looked a bit confused at Clara and asked sullenly, "Didn't you agree to be my girlfriend that night?"
With that, everyone around started to tease, and for a moment, they all forgot to press Agnes about who had come to the office.
"I did not." Clara blushed, buried her head in Agnes's shoulder, and wrapped her arms around her, "Agnes, why haven't you been back to the dorm lately? I miss you!"
